Tommy's legs, one especially, are in bad shape. They look red and almost burned, blisters all over. Today when I went to AFC Just before we went, I told him we were going to have the np look at his legs. He would not let me put Eucirin on them, what I was told to put on mine. Mine are almost well. She told him to use it too. I suppose he will.
We got out about 4:30 in plenty of time to get home before dark. The car would not start and had strange clicking noise. There was a notice about the emergency brake not working. So, I said to call insurance. The claim number had messages that led to a different message. Do you had Medicare and Medicaid? No. Are you over 60? No. So, they had a message about a safety id.
Finally, Tommy got a person. I have never heard him yell into the phone. He could not hear person and was telling her to slow down, speak up, speak plainly. When I took the phone, I understood. She was in Philippines. Women on the call lines there are very hesitant to speak up, have very soft, submissive voices.
We kept calling other numbers we could find. All calls led to these same numbers. We called 911. policewoman came, called someone to come with a starter/jumper box, but Tommy refuses to keep it ours in the car. ??? We always have a need for it here, he says. ??? So we sat for over an hour begging for agent. By the time we were on the road, it was well after dark. We arrived home safely, no thanks to our insurance. AND, we were sent overseas for help.
Eventually, we were sitting in a dark parking lot. We were only 6 miles from home, but it was unnerving.
This was Traveler's Insurance, worst I have ever had. What insurance do you use? I need to find another company.
This 53F weather is harsh. And, will be lower later. We did not buy this car for features. However, heated seats are nice.
Do you not have the Auto club you can call for help. You shouldn't be calling 911 for car trouble.
ReplyDeleteWe are not a member of an Auto Club.
DeleteI have AAA for any roadside assistance. You are always helped quickly. Would never have thought to call my insurance co. My car is insured with State Farm.
ReplyDeleteAAA was going to take four hours in our place, way out in country in the at a church with no houses nearby. It would have been a good way to be murdered. I was alone.
DeleteWe use Triple AAA and get excellent road side assistance from them each year. It’s worth the peace of mind for me.,
ReplyDeleteWon't ever get Triple AAA. It takes too long here.
DeleteWere you calling insurance to arrange a tow truck or emergency service? If you have that coverage, the phone number for that specific thing should be on your insurance card. I used to have Auto Owners, and roadside assistance was something we paid for. We had an extra card that came in the mail with the insurance card with all details listed on it. I did use it once and it worked extremely well.
ReplyDeleteAnd oh how I love my hiney heater! :)
I had the card in my hand that said To Report a Claim and the 800 number. They immediately started with sales spiel on recorded line.
DeleteBut a roadside problem is not a "claim", so that's why you couldn't get any help. And if you won't get AAA, you and Tommy def need roadside assistance so you aren't calling 911.
DeleteYou can get a roadside assistance plan added to your basic Traveler's auto insurance; either the Standard or Premier package. I don't know what they cost.
Standard roadside assistance Includes: Towing up to 15 miles, jump-starts, fuel delivery (cost of fuel is not included), flat tire changes, lockout assistance, and roadside winching.
Premier roadside assistance: Includes everything in the standard plan, plus towing up to 100 miles, trip interruption coverage for meals and lodging if your car is disabled more than 100 miles from home, and up to $500 in personal property coverage for damage or theft related to the incident.
So get roadside assistance added to your plan!
Can you say more about your insurance calls and what you expected? Was that because roadside assistance is part of your benefits? I'd just never heard of calling insurance for car assistance. Hope Tommy gets the care, or accepts the care, for his wounds. That sounds horribly painful.
ReplyDeleteI thought I posted more here!
DeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteWe do have roadside assistance added to our car insurance. We were calling to get that help.
