Farmer's Market and Grocery Shopping

We went to the Wednesday one-day Farmer's Market today. Tommy thought it was from 3-6 pm and I thought it was from 4-7 pm. Well, we were both wrong. It is from 9-6 pm. I have been waiting for it to start, and he thought I was letting it pass today or something like that. However, we left about 3:30 to shop.

There were only six booths today by the time we got there about 4 pm. Three were not produce, just canned food. One guy had lots of wooden lawn furniture. I bought a box of blueberries for $4 and a little box of squash for $4. The squash were just like I prefer yellow squash. They were all about five inches long. The blueberries were really fresh. I had some out of the bag on the way home. 

We also went to our three stores to get the ads. Tommy went to the first store and refused to get a pork butt for $1.78/lb. He did not want to shop and said they would be there another day. Pooh! I went into The Pig and Publix. 

Publix had Spice Island Spices bogo. I needed dill and parsley for a mix. Bananas and Chips Ahoy bogo. Libby's Pumpkin was still fifty cents, so I bought two more. 

I finally found a juicer/reamer. It has a glass container with plastic juicer screwed onto the top. I did not want plastic, but that is all there was. I had about a half-dozen of the antique glass juicers that I prefer, but I don't know if any are still in my possession or in the landfill. I also found a single brownie mix bag for half price. 

I was in no mood to cook when we came home. The hen is not thawed. There was no more leftover protein in the refrigerator. So, I told Tommy to see what was in the big freezer. He came back with a package of sixteen meatballs, and another package with a generous meatloaf. He wanted the meatballs, so that is what we had. He ate meatballs, pasta, and leftover spaghetti sauce, and a huge salad. I might have the same. 

Dinner for tomorrow night will be meatloaf and leftover potatoes. Maybe we will have corn on the cob or squash. Dinner ready to eat for tomorrow makes me happy. 

There is no zester in sight. The grater has just a smaller grater, so maybe no help. Plus, I only found one citrus juicer in the one store that had juicer label on the shelf. Is everyone zesting and juicing citrus, or is this a supply-chain issue? My big box grater had one whole side that was a zester. Do you have a box grater with a zester? There is one store in Cullman that will have what I need. 

Now, I should wash the juicer, wash the lemons, zest the lemons, juice the lemons. Ugh! I am tired. 

The Purple D' Oro bloomed today and three more blossoms, at least, will bloom soon. I really want to hit up Lowe's every day and see what flower is on sale. But, I won't. 

Tommy discovered some herb butter in the refrigerator, and he loves it. So, I will try to mix some he will love. He will love it on squash I will cook on the stovetop. Do you add herbs to butter? 

My a2 milk is on sale for $3.60/half gallon at The Pig, as opposed to $4.99 at Publix. If I use the digital coupon, I can get it for $2.85. However, the digital coupon can only be used 2 X. I will take advantage of the price and the coupon. 

Today has been a good day. Warm is always good, and sun is better! I did not wash my hair like I wanted to do. It is late, so not dealing with lemons even though the juicer is clean. 

What did you accomplish today? Cooking, gardening, washing? Have you ever had an antique glass juicers/reamer? Maybe you still use one?

This and That, Nothing Much

 There is usually one question we mull every day--is it going to rain. We need to know this in order to decided whether Tommy needs to water the flowers and berries or not. We debate this, watching the weather and radar channel. Today, while I slept for a bit, he did water plants. When I awoke, I heard lots of thunder. He commented that it did rain all around us, just not here. It is dark, I still hear thunder, and it has not rained. It seems Tuscaloosa is getting lots of rain and maybe flooding. hmmm

Today, there was a hummingbird at the fuschia plant. The sight still thrills me every time I see it. 

We cancelled something today because it appeared rain would be a problem. Of course, it did not rain where we were going to be driving. 

Remember the freezing/blasting that was done to my arm yesterday. Well, the bandage fell off about two minutes after I applied it. AND, the smaller one blasted is twice the size of the larger one and has a huge blister on top. I am not sure what is happening. 

I needed a2milk on Saturday as I only had a partial half-gallon. Well, Tuesday was the next delivery day and they were out of all types of a2milk. Today, I purchased two half-gallons. They were an astronomical--$4.99! Is scarcity driving this price hike? 

When I went in to buy milk, I bought Tommy a package of Juicy Fruit chewing gum. His chewing drives me crazy. His storage of the gum and chewing the next day drives me past crazy. But, he loves it. 

Speaking of chewing, I think I crumbled off a piece of filling while chewing meatloaf. ugh

Every time I awake, I think Tommy has called me and told me to get up. Every time I am wrong. I laugh at myself. If I lie down at 4 pm, I will tell him to wake me if I am not awake at 7 pm. Really, I only want to sleep until 6 pm, but figure if I am really sleepy, I may need to sleep until 7 pm. But, I do not want to sleep four or more hours. I do clearly and distinctly hear him calling my name to wake me when he does not. This is really strange to me. 

We had one small chore along with buying milk, and these chores wore me to a frazzle!

On Saturday, April 22, we bought a gallon of pretty strawberries for $20. I was down with an upper respiratory infection on Sunday and the first of the week so forgot about them. I think Tommy started eating them on Wednesday. I encouraged him to eat them up. He came in with huge bowls of strawberries, eating them with his hand. 

Finally, 13 days later, I ate two berries when he warned me there were only four berries left. Not one of the berries in the bottom of the plastic bucket was bad. I was shocked. Usually strawberries don't last that long with disintegrating or molding. I certainly hope to find the people who sold these.

Tonight, we ate the rest of the meatloaf I made last week, the slaw I made over the we1ekend, and fresh corn on the cob. It was a wonderful meal. There is more slaw and corn, so tomorrow, I will cook protein or find something protein in the freezer. Frozen chicken and new red potatoes are thawing in the refrigerator. I was thinking I would make salmon croquettes, but maybe not. I had blueberries for lunch and will have apple and strawberries for later tonight.

Best BOGO Ever for Me

At Publix I saw an ad on an email. Publix has a bogo deal on a2milk. A half gallon is bogo--$4.49 for two half-gallons. We got the last five. Tomorrow, Tommy will go back in and get at least one more, possibly more. From what I have seen, $4.49/gal  is not out of line.

BOGO on a2milk ends on Tuesday night. Get it soon. 

Dinner on Sunday night was from two meals. I ate the leftover hamburger, carrots, and broccoli from Friday night, along with a thin slice of potato from Saturday night. Tommy had pork loin roast, carrots, and potatoes from Saturday night, plus broccoli from Friday night. I love the microwave. 

At one point on Saturday I looked over at Tommy and he was eating mascarpone on saltines. So, since I was hungry, I spread some on Graham Crackers. The mascarpone came from a food giveaway as did the Saltines. The Graham Crackers were $2 at a clearance sale. They were four days from the best-by date. They are a little soft but delicious. I don't want to heat the oven to get them crisp. 

I am tired but must color my hair or wash it. Tommy will break up the ground pork and cook it. Later, I will dump everthing in the crockpot for taco casserole that ends up taco soup. And, that is my day.
