Eggsciting Price

This week The Pig has eggs very cheap--$1.76/doz. When I got there I found a better price--$3.06/18 eggs or 1.5 dozen. PLUS, the carton of one dozen on sale was medium eggs, while the carton with 1.5 dozen was EXTRA LARGE. Since I always, well almost always, buy extra-large, I decided to get two cartons of 18 that were extra-large.

At home we figured the price per egg that we paid. Well, I did pay more for each egg. Cost per egg for medium eggs was 0.15 cents and cost per egg for extra-large was 0.17 cents. So, each egg was $0.02 more.  Okay, a bit more? I doubt it. Medium eggs weigh 55-60 grams. Extra-large eggs weigh 65-70 grams. Since there is a range within each designation, I would have to weigh each egg which I will not do. However, I do believe that the extra-large were actually a smidgen cheaper based on weight which I have not determined. The actual cost per egg, regardless of the size of egg is 15 cents for the sale-priced egg and 17 cents for the ones I bought which are larger.

I told Tommy I was going to buy 4 dozen, and he did not react well. He said there was no room. Well, I looked and it is crowded in the refrigerator. We need to eat the produce stacked on the one large shelf at the bottom above the crispers which will not easily move in and out, so not used at all. I may go in there and see what is wrong. And, I might go buy more eggs as they will be this price through Tuesday.

Oh, we still have a carton of 18 still left from a few weeks ago. When I can stand to stand, I will scramble nine, at least, and eat for three mornings. Right now, we have three cartons of eighteen.

I sprayed the bluebird and hung it up. Maybe the cool and damp will not be good for it. I can sand and respray. We moved all the plants on the porch to the table or corner of the ramp. Tommy won't have to do it. I believe rain is better for plants than tap water.

Tommy washed clothes and I hung them. Now, the bathroom rugs are in the washing machine and it's getting dark. He put them in when I turned on the dishwasher, so he stopped it. I suppose he will go out after dark restart the machine and then go back to bring in the rugs.

Last night, I decided I would put in the pork roast early, but I forgot, so that is for Sunday. Plus, we still need to cook the three packages of thighs that are thawed.

Dinner: Again Tommy had thigh meat and I had chicken breast. He had zucchini noodles, like a salad. Plus, baked carrots and potatoes. I had carrots and mustard greens. We will both have strawberries and blueberries.

Edit: free item at the Pig was 20 count pack of quart freezer bags, Ziploc, I think.

Burned Eggs

Continuing from Monday...

Monday, I had a coupon for a free Mayfield Product.  I chose Extreme Moosetracks at $6.29. If you don't know, this is ice cream with chunks of gooey chocolate throughout. In order to make it a more healthy treat, I sliced a banana over it in the bowl.  I try!

Tommy hasn't cleaned the sink in last two weeks or so. I tried to get him to clean it last week, but he had excuses...lol. You know how it should and could gleam. Well, he did not wash off the Barkeeper's Friend and the faucet and handle looked gross. I showed him so he can do it right next time. Plus, he denies he did whatever.

Tuesday, as soon as I posted, Tommy went in and did a magnificent job scouring the stainless steel sink. The faucet and handle are mirrors. He went in and showed me how he lifted up the coffeepot and another thing and cleaned under them. He explained that he used a dishcloth to get the powder off the sink and faucet. Great! He is so funny like this.

He also took my a load to the washing machine. That means I have things to hang and things to fold. ugh!

After we went on Tuesday to pick up his meds at the pharmacy window, I got the ice cream and wanted to look for wood. I found some where a guy is adding a room or porch to his house. I only got four very short pieces, enough to make three birds since it is 2x6 instead of 2x4. I will go back another day since it is only about 4 blocks from here.

I have four heads of cabbage that were a good price. I really need to use them up. I think I might make cabbage soup. That means I need to get the carrots in the crockpot since they take the longest to cook. I may take a nap and put the potatoes in later, then the chopped cabbage.  But, I took a nap.

When I awoke four hours later, I smelled something. I had left six eggs in a pot to boil. Well, those are in the trash. Tommy did not notice eggs boiling for four whole hours! I have more eggs, but I sure hate to lose food!

Wednesday

Today, I am going to show him how to polish silver...lol. His parents used silverplate for everyday. I found a silverchest he didn't know was there. The silverplate needs polishing. lolol

Okay, it is Wednesday, and I have five more eggs boiling. Januuary 6, I bought four dozen jumbo eggs for fifty cents each dozen. I five in a pot boiling and another three in the carton. I wish I had bought more. These stand up in a bowl of water, so they need to be eaten. After breakfast of two eggs, I will use the other two eggs for egg salad or just to eat.

So, I ate 5.5 dozen eggs in eleven weeks.  I think I dropped some, burned those on Tuesday and lost a boiled one for so long I threw it out.  That probably makes 4.5 dozen in eleven weeks.

Since I sent back the elliptical machine and the pedal machine, I have no way of getting exercise. Walking the hall and kitchen is good, but I can only last three minutes. Today, I decided to try something new. My friend was prescribed and exercise before her knee surgery. I decided to try it. It is a killer. I sit on Tommy's walker and "march." I didn't last long and my thighs were burning. But, I will try to do a bit more each day.

It is not yet 10 am and I am exhausted and want a freshly boiled egg. For the last four days, I have lost one pound each day. The main thing I have done is not to eat much after dinner. Okay, that egg was delicious with a smidgen of butter melting on top.

Finally, just now, I got an appointment for Tommy and I to get a covid vaccine. I think. Then, I had to cancel eye doctor. I have an appointment to check eyes and another at the same time for a medical eye exam because of something on edge of eye. This is the thing the doctor said was a sty, but who knows? It just became very hard. So, I will solve this mystery.

It is another beautiful day and warm...70F.

One time, I put eggs on to boil in a Corningware pot. I lay down to watch TV and woke about 2 am. I went to bed and awoke the next morning to eggs on the ceiling and all over the walls! When I replace the vent hood years later, there were still bits of eggs in it even though I cleaned it.

Have you ever boiled eggs so long they exploded?

Someplace Different

A week or so ago, a new Buccee's opened in Leeds, AL. We wanted to go there but not when they opened. Today, was the perfect day. They had 120 gas pumps. Oh, my. I was not needing to go inside just to look at the layout, which I hear is filled with baked goodies and such.

Tommy only needed about $12 worth of gas. Gas was $2.08, less than the $2.12 here. So, that was it. We drove around reading the signs about picking up after dogs. There were even stations with bags in case you forgot yours.

This is only the second Buccee's in AL. So, this was hyped as a big deal. Even fudge inside could not get me inside. I did not want to go in if Tommy could not.

Buccee's was huge.

I took a picture of my bluebird before sunset. I have done nothing else to upload it or post. Sorry. I need to find someone to cut it out for me for pay. First, I need to find scraps of 2x4s. I have everything else.

The day's news/TV coverage has been upsetting to me. I do want to hear and see the scenes that we have not seen.

On the way back from Buccee's to continue watching the trial, I did stop at The Pig to buy two pints of ice cream for $1 each. While there, I found a eye of round roast. I will probably cut this into two pieces of freeze one. Maybe I will just cook the whole thing and freeze half of the frozen meat. I love round steak because it is so lean and usually so thin.

The next four or five days, we will be housebound. The rain on Thursday (100%) will keep us indoors. There is plenty to be done--loading and unloading dishes from the dishwasher, maybe loading it again with his stuff in the cabinets,  folding clothes, sorting items that get put down when I am under the weather, sorting more food and getting it placed where it belongs, baking a poke cake. Remember, I am slow.

Yesterday, when I washed my hair, I managed to get a lot of shampoo into my left eye. Now, it feels like an acid burn. It hurts so bad.

Right now, I must put chicken breasts and vegetables into a cooking bag.

Have you been watching the trial?

Bluebird of Happiness

Okay, I have a bluebird and I am happy. I saw this one hanging in a tree at my friend's house when we ate in their backyard two weeks ago. She was going to get the pattern for me. But, her friend cannot find the pattern. I am going to make a pattern and then make a bluebird or two. I think I might just sell these. I intend to use free scraps of 2x4s. Then, and eye for the top for a piece of wire and a spray of blue and it will be done.

Tomorrow, come hell or high water, I am going to learn how to post a picture on here.

So, we went to Cullman today. I got my mail, picked up the bird, ate lunch and watched my feet swell. That is always fun.

The sky was broody looking on the way up, but the clouds cleared and it was the most beautiful day with a dark blue sky and white fluffy clouds. It was day to make my heart sing.

Since I need a bed and have had no luck finding a used one, I went online, decided I could look in an Ashley store, and did just that. The iron bed was $100 less in the store. I will not quit looking for a used bed until the day I buy the bed. I also found a comfortable chair at a reasonable price, but I am sure the quality is low.

Trust me, I can find plenty of beds, but not one with a footboard that comes above the mattress. My sheets and blankets fall/slide every which way without a footboard to help hold them in place.  I am too old to deal with this. I cannot give a sheet or blanket a flip to get the sheet or anything else across the bed. But, I am still looking for an old, cheap used bed to use as is or paint.

I went into two no-name stores and found nothing. Who likes a bed with only a headboard and no footboard? Not me.

Did I get this correct?

This is supposed to be on Practical Parsimony. So, is it showing up on moreparsimony? thi
