Nothing Happening Here, Just Sorting

We needed to go to a Big Box store, so we planned it to get there before the church folks arrived and got all the carts. Tommy wanted to buy shoes to wear as one pair is too worn. He got some that look like crocs. I needed a few things and got some of them and forgot the others. I slept maybe 4 hours last night and have been just dying this evening. It got too late to take a nap. So, I am struggling.

Tommy was resisting sorting socks, so I brought in a bag of tshirts too heavy for me. I dragged them. Sooo, he sorted the socks. Then he sorted the tshirts. There were at least 50. He is keeping the Auburn, Scotland and Dr. Who shirts. He gave me two to cut for cleaning rags. I can have more and the rest will be donated to a shelter. None are new but none are ragged, just no longer fit him. He is getting rid of all his Sam's Club shirts.

There are sweatshirts and sweatpants somewhere, but I could not find them. I will have to look tomorrow. He is giving away a pair of shorts and swim trunks that don't fit. Lots is leaving.

He gave me his eclipse shirt since mine is probably destroyed. August 21, 2017 was a fun day for us.

I am keeping about six fuzzy socks so I can cut off the foot to use the tops on a Swiffer for dusting/sweeping. I will toss them when done since I had to cut the tops from bottom to top for use on the swiffer. The thin ones, nylon, are tossed.

Tommy will be furious, but I want to wash all the shirts he is keeping and the ones I will be using for cleaning. But, I brought in two blankets that were lying in a corner accidentally and told him they needed washing and he agreed. So, who knows?

Tommy used the new stick, cordless vac for about twelve feet. The fine dirt is disgraceful and lots of it. The hairs and other trash are quite a bit, too, more than I expected on a two foot by 12 foot strip.

I have a busy day planned for tomorrow and I dread it. I have a list! ugh  Hopefully, I can sleep tonight.

Was your Sunday restful or productive?

Santa Mouse and Christmas Socks

When my older two were just babies, I bought a book, Santa Mouse. There was also a stuffed Santa Mouse to buy. I bought both and they enjoyed playing with Santa Mouse and hearing me read the book for a week or so before Christmas. I took both and put them away so they could read it next year. I have had this book and Santa Mouse for about 50 years.

Yes, my blogmas continues.

When the son was just two and I was pregnant, I read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" way too many times. I read to my children from the time they were born. The oldest is an English teacher, father to a boy and girl,  and the younger is a first grade teacher. The middle child, a girl, read to her children, a boy and girl, the smartest grandchildren in the world except for the other two grandchildren. (Yes, I know you have some of those, too.)

I forgot one acquisition on Saturday. As I came out of the store, on the ground on the pavement, was a stem of holly or something with red berries. I know it has a name, but the berries are all along the stem. So, one free decoration for next year.

In one store, there was a pair of Christmas socks for men. It said so on the tag. Well, it looked like something just for me. The socks were red and white striped with the green toes and heel. Along the top was elastic and pointy elf decorations along with the green elasticized band. So, I cut off the elastic band because it was too tight. Now, I am wearing red and white socks to keep warm. Tommy laughs every time he sees them because he said he likes them and they are cute on me. They feel festive.

Have you ever heard of Santa Mouse, the toy or book? Do you have it? Did you have a Christmas book you read on demand over and over?

It's Over

The tree is down and all cards on the doors. Unfortunately, or not, there is Christmas chocolate. The temperatures have been in low 70s and high 60s and dry. I like the temperature and lack of humidity.

I thought the thing Tommy needed most was protection from rain. But, that was not to be. Even at full price, there was nothing that would suit him. I knew this from discussions. He is like me in that he gets too warm using anything water repellant with a flannel lining. Or any lining! Still, I will try the thrift store where there are guys who will actually help with looking.

About two weeks before Christmas, I saw Rubik cubes in the store. I knew he would like that and got us both one.

About a week before Christmas, I picked up a sock from the floor near where I sit. It had a hole in the heel I could put my fist through. So, I knew what I could get him he could use. At Belk's are Gold Toe socks, prohibitively expensive. I counted on their sales. Three pair were $20 but $6.99 on sale. Gold Toe lasts forever.

He liked the Rubik's cube and really liked the socks. He said most all of his socks had holes in them. I bought a Rubik's cube last year that I could barely twist. I suppose it is dying in the dump. I checked the cubes I got and they twist easily.

His present for me was huge and in a large white garbage bad with a piece of green tissue paper lying over the top and two red pieces of ribbon just lying on top. He said he tried to get me something I needed. He chose a plastic dresser-like thing, three drawers and about a foot wide. He said maybe it would help me in the bedroom. Yes, it would.

We have not been out of the driveway since Christmas Eve. It's Friday night and I have a turkey in the oven. Once again, it took both of us to get it out of refrigerator, into pan, and into the oven.

For dinner we had grilled cheese sandwich, tomato and a halo. We are so exciting.

My children had rubik cubes. Now, I have one. Did or do you? Have you ever had experience with Gold Toe socks and their durability?

Tommy died

I am distraught! He died at 12:15 am on 3-14.
