Tommy Dropped a Sharp Knife on His Foot

The weather was fit to grill when I wanted to, but I could not get the grill lit. The tank was on/open, I turned on the gas on one burner, and then punched the starter button. I did this a dozen times or so. Then, I had Tommy check everything. He tried. He consulted the Product Guide. So, we turned it off.

He was disappointed, so I told he could put it in a skillet, which he did. These were so thin, about 1/4 inch. So, they cooked and browned quickly. He had pork and beans and tomatoes on his plate. All of a sudden, I saw something on the floor in several places while he was trying to sit down with his plate. When I asked him what he spilled in front of his chair, he walked trying to see what it was. Well, he was smearing blood! Now, that needs to be cleaned up. I used a baby wipe to see where he was bleeding. It seems that when he dropped his knife and fork, the steak knife slashed the side of his foot behind his big toe. I put Mupirocin on it after cleaning it with a baby wipe. Then, I took a Kleenex and put the stretchy bandage from my iv, and that is holding it all together.

He has refused to use the special tub I bought him for a foot wash, one just like mine with a handle. (He paid for both.) NOW, he will if I have to wrestle him to get it done...lol. There was sooo much blood. I will have to look at it to see if he needs to have it sewn up. He will either go to er tonight or doctor tomorrow.

I had put the chicken tenders, two potatoes, one carrot, and a bit of baby carrots in the oven, so I had some of that. We watched A Capitol Fourth 2023. It was entertaining. So are the fireworks behind the Washington Monument. I missed one thing, a little girl dancing to Tina Turner song, just an audience member, so I will see that again.

People are shooting off bottle rockets all around, with an occasional boomer. It was a good Fourth, nothing spectacular. Tommy said he got four drops of rain on him when he went out to water. He brought in three blackberries. I ate one and he ate one and he threw away the one with white on it. Mine was bitter and I don't know why.

Tonight, later, I will have some Jello and fruit.

I am Proud to be an American. The End.

Where did you go and what did you cook or eat on the 4th of July 2023?

Nothing Much Accomplished

 Monday--nothing much was accomplished.

I did get out my fat, battery-powered candles, three in graduated heights. AND, there is a remote. With the remote, the candles can all be timed from two to 8 hours. A "flame" dances like a live flame I love the look, love the convenience. They are on the shelf beneath the tall table on which the tree sits. I bought a package of red berries on alligator/roach clips. I just put the four bunches of berries in front and between the candles.

There is another set of these candles I have not gotten out, yet.

About the remote--how do you keep it from being lost, sliding off the table, just how? Well, I put each of mine in a sandwich bag or snack bag. Since the remotes are so tiny, I just know they will evade me if they are not inside something I can see when the remote slithers away.

Outside, the mum is just sitting there, not red enough, not shiny. I hate to give up!

Tuesday, we went to Tommy's yearly appointment at one specialist. I sat in the car and addressed Christmas cards. Since I forgot to take my Christmas stamps, I just used the summer flower stamps.

Today, we covered many areas/cities in Birmingham , shopping or driving to get somewhere else! I finally got a hamper, something I badly needed. Hopefully, the vibrator foot massager I purchased will help with the swelling in my feet. I also bought red pen, contact paper, Hershey's Kisses, Hershey's Miniatures, a cookie sheet, and a small box of Werther's Original Caramel Sugar Free minis. I love the Werther's.

I am exhausted and have no idea what will be for dinner! Maybe a nap will help!

I forgot to look for a surge protector for my laptop. It is almost 4 pm and it is still 70F degrees.

Has anyone ever used a foot massager? Know anything about them?

No Energy

Wednesday was a not-so-good day. I slept little the night before, rested in bed once during the day and then napped. I ate a pb, MW, banana sandwich around 11 am. Dinner was baked chicken, salad with Italian mix, tomatoes, and carrots. Later I had a Coke and chocolate ice cream float. Then an apple. We went for a short drive and that was all I did besides use laptop and watch TV.

My energy is at the bottom. I have no new thoughts about anything. My only goal is to get to a doctor.

Thursday, I had a long rest in bed and then a long nap in the afternoon. Once again, dinner was baked chicken and a salad. Dinner was delicious. We packaged the pedal exercise machine for a return pickup on Friday morning. That is my one accomplishment for the day!

Oh, I did get up in the middle of the night and started cutting on my hair. What a mess I made of my hair.

Friday, Tommy finished cutting the length on my hair. I have not looked to see the result. I had cut the bangs and around my face and the length of the sides.

Several days ago, I injured my foot and can barely put my weight on my heel on the right foot. I was limping and started making both feet hurt. So, I have gone back to putting my weight on the right foot/heel. I started wearing my sandals in the house and it seems like it hurts less since the shoe sole is thick.

After reading on the internet, I realized my allergist might be the best doctor to treat the ear shingles. So, I called him this week and he called today. After hearing my story of a horrid reaction to tetanus vaccine when I was twenty and the fact my two-year-old daughter had the same reaction three years later, he decided that my vaccine would be best administered in his office, what I thought, too. I don't know how we got sidetracked.

Then, I told him the story of months long problems that have been diagnosed as shingles of the ear. He prescribed an antiviral for me. So, I have it and cannot decide if I wait for a symptom or just take it now. In a bit I will call pharmacy. Of course, the ear started hurting one day after I finished the antibiotics. I worry what is wrong with my ear.

I mentioned someone told me about ears and hiccuping. He said that ear problems could cause hiccups.

On Saturday we are rising at 6 am to get to a store for a return so we won't be amongst people with something we might catch. Okay, let's see if that happens. It was my idea, but I am not sure how I will feel about it at 6 am.

Update on the haircut. I washed it and let it dry. It may not be a good haircut, but it looks 100% better.

For Friday dinner I am going to put potato wedges in the Concord spices and olive oil along with carrots, onions, grape tomatoes, and meatballs. I cannot wait to have dinner. Oh, the meatballs will just go in the pan but not in the olive oil and spices. I might even put the tomatoes in the pan for only the last 15 minutes.

It just occurred to me that I was dealing with three things at once last year--shingles in ear, abscessed last upper molar on same side, and an ear infection. Seriously, I was in bad shape at that time. And, the shingles was at least a six-month ordeal last year.

Tommy died

I am distraught! He died at 12:15 am on 3-14.
