Turkey Breasts and Yard Sale Treasure

At 8 am Saturday morning, I called Publix. The meat guy went to check. He said he got two for me. Later, but really early, like 10 am, I went and collected my turkey breasts. Both were a bit over six pounds, $9.16 and $8.52. That is not bad for those huge hunks of meat.

But, they were strange. Turkey breasts are rounded all over. The has twoprotuberances, one on each side. I asked the guy why those things were sticking out. He said they were bones. I was skeptical and told him a turkey breast won't have a bone there. He said it was probably wings. I am going to be fit to be tied if I bought wings.

We decided to air up one of my tires. The car would not start. So, Tommy had to use our handy-dandy car charger and it started. Then, I backed it out of the carport and he aired them up, all to different numbers--32 pounds for this tire, 34 pounds for that tire. It just makes me crazy. But, he said it won't matter. It appears sitting for so long and one tire only with 12 pounds did not make any of the tires get a flat spot. I imagine driving Michelin is why they held up nicely.

I drove a little to keep in practice...lol. and decided to take it to the car wash. Well, there were about 12 people in line and I was not doing that wait. We will go tomorrow.

Tommy pointed out a yard sale close to the house. We passed it several times before we stopped. There was furniture 6 feet high and massive. Behind it they put all the small stuff. We pulled into the driveway, and I decided there was nothing there for me. Then, I saw a tiny edge of something like a table, only I knew it was a Singer treadle. Yep. I bought it for $15. Since it was so cheap and she would deliver it, I offered to pay her five dollars to drive a mile to my house and put it in the carport.

When we left, Tommy said, I thought you had sewing machines. I DEAL in sewing machines. I really only want this one for the iron bottom. I can sell the head to someone who wants to cannibalize it or to refurbish it. The wooden part, especially the drawers are good sellers for people who use them on shelves to store something also collectible. I might even make money on the deal. Now Tommy has to go out and cover it as even under the carport rain blows in.

I have always wanted the iron stand from a Singer treadle to put a marble or wooden top on it. This would be pretty on a porch but would get really wet on Tommy's porch. However, it would be great anywhere. This is one of my dreams come true! I do have a Singer treadle older than this one, but I won't take it apart for a table. At one point, I used it in the den for my TV.

The table at the head of the post is using the tabletop of the machine. So, that is an idea for a table kept indoors. I love it.

We have a Christmas party to go to next Saturday. The weather will be great, but covid is on the rise everywhere, so I may opt to miss all the fun.

Dinner will be leftovers from Tommy's birthday meal--pork loin, potatoes, carrots, squash, zucchini, onions. I am so glad I don't have to cook!

Are you missing parties to be safe?

Do you use a Singer iron base for a table base?

Have you ever wanted this type table?

Too Pooped to Type

I was so sad Colin Powell died. He was a hero of mine. His situation shows why we should be so careful of infecting people. He was vaccinated, but had multiple myeloma. So, the vaccine was not very effective for him. I mourn.

If I don't visit or leave a comment, consider I am exhausted and have been busy. Today, Tommy had an appointment to get new tires at 11 am. We got there at 11 am and asked how long it would take. I rode with him. Then, my gastrointestinal tract betrayed me and I had to go home and change clothing. So, he took me home; I jumped out; he went directly back. We are less than a mile from the shop.

Once I cleaned up and changed clothes, tried to recover and went back in my car. Tommy got into my car because I needed something to eat. So, did he.

We went back about 1 pm and the car was not done because she said, "he had to leave." Yet, it was on the rack with only one tire, and old one on the vehicle. She was very accusatory which I did not like. Okay, at 3:15, the woman called back as it was done.

I drove him back, so he could get it. It was over $800. However, there was a b3g1, and he had a coupon for free installation. So, with alignment, he paid ~ $790. I asked and he has absolutely no idea what the savings were.  And, and this card will give him cash back. So, now we are driving on good tires.

Today, I wanted to go and buy a recliner with the lift mechanism. I really need it. But, I spent all day at the ready and spent the time getting tires! I saved one of my stimulus for this purpose. Tomorrow, we must do something else.

The Dollar Tree was on my list of places to go. I managed to get in and shop. There was no shelf stable milk, what I was looking for to buy. It is $1, so I try to keep it. Just before it expires, Tommy drinks it. Then, I get more. No, that was not in the cards today. So, I still need to do that.

My new wool blanket is wonderful. I put it on my bed last night, right on top of a quilt, a comforter and a fuzzy blanket. It was warm when I got into bed, but I lay still, cooled off and slept well all night.  The comforter was the only thing pulled up to my shoulders. The comforter and fuzzy blanket were only over my feet, how I have used them all summer. Now, I want to find another one on eBay.

Right now, I am going to try to get a gigantic hen in a baking bag. This meat will be taken off the bone by Tommy. Chicken and dumplings is on the menu some day.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a brand recliner? I hate the wide arms that recliners usually have, but I want the seat to be wide. I also hate that big bumpy part for the head. It pushed my head forward and crushes my hair, and wraps around my face!

$3400 later

His car is fixed, new axle, tires rotated, and something done to front brakes. Tommy has been driving with an axle that needed replacing--$3400. He berates me for telling "that noise" needs to be checked. I wonder how it would have felt for it to completely ++fail?

I got an estimate from the same place, Pep Boys, for two hvac door actuator for over $1600. This thing is the door that opens and closes when you change from ac to heat. Today, on the way to Cullman, Tommy was freezing and I was feeling heat. As it turns out, the door was stuck/broken closed. So, we had to turn his side off completely and close the vents. He was only getting frigid air. That plus the loud rat-a-tat-tat is enough to drive a person batty. As it turns out, this is a problem will al Impalas. Well, they are making no more Impalas, I hear. I did not know this car has dual controls, one for each side of the car.

Before we left home this morning, I scrambled four eggs for Tommy and me. He was a pain and refused to eat any. He eats them anywhere except when I make them. So, I ate all four eggs. Again! I have to quit that. However, the amount of protein I had kept me full and until lunch. I usually do not need to eat until around 1 pm after I eat 2 eggs.

We went to the free lunch and had turkey soup, cornbread muffins, pickle, unsweetened tea, and dessert. There were peas in the soup, so I ate none of the soup, just picked out the bit of turkey. It's good I had the eggs! I did not eat cornbread muffins or the pickle. Tommy ate my bowl of soup, only leaving some of the broth.

We got my mail, visited the bursar at the hospital. It turns out that the reason I was turned over to collections is that Medicare rejected a test I had done. I had to call Medicare for another rejected charge. I have no idea why this is happening over and over. It is stressful when I have no idea what I owe and why. I had a few other things to do. We went to the store out in the country owned by the Mennonites I got a couple of pieces of candy and looked around.

Over under a tree are two picnic tables near the Mennonite store and right near a fence. We were surprised to see a cow lying right next to the fence. We drove over near the picnic table on the way out. Over beyond the cow was a goat lying in the grass. I wondered if the cow was waiting on people with their lunches. And, was the goat and cow friends. There are many goats and cows in the field. The weather was perfect with few skies in a lovely blue sky, 62 degrees by noon.

As soon as we arrived home, the shop called and we had to go right back out to get the car. Tommy had undressed. and was not eager to go out. I did not want to get out early! I had put potatoes in the oven, so it all worked out well.

I used one dish for dinner where I cooked the beef patties last night. So, dishwashing will be easy, thankfully.

Tomorrow, I will make potato soup. Tommy has consented to peel potatoes. YAY!

I should be elsewhere

All the fixings for a squash casserole are waiting patiently for my attention. Then, I need to mix up slaw for the church dinner. But, I would rather waste time.

However, one problem has been solved.  A friend gives me leftovers from a restaurant where her son works. She told me she had creamed corn to give me and blueberries from her bushes. It looks to be about a quart. THEN, she said she was giving me two tiny pieces of ham left over from a ham she cooked for son's birthday.

When I was putting it away, the pieces of ham were each larger than my fist. I expect one piece will be more than enough for a meal for both of us. YAY! Tommy wants creamed corn with his squash casserole. I may give it all to him. I think I will open a can of green beans. Two yellow vegetables and two carbs don't really go together, but he wants it. Both will be good with ham. Plus, I bought on sale plates that are divided, so the corn will stay away from my other food.

She said her husband just picks any blueberry and may have gotten some small ones that are not sweet and juicy. Maybe these will be cooked for pie filling with a tiny bit of sugar. I bought blueberries to put in the freezer. I try to keep blueberries in the freezer all winter by buying them in store or markets when they are cheap.

I also should be making slaw for tomorrow.

My hair is washed and air drying. I hate to use a blow dryer. I will put sponge rollers in the top when it is dry and sleep on them. I will get curly  hair that will fall to fluffy hair during the day  because I hate to use hair spray. Any kind of volume works for me.

One of my floor lamps went kaput last night. So, I had to enlist another lamp in its place. I suppose I need to carry lamps to the lamp store and have them rewired. It seems electricians around here don't want to do that. Besides, one has a $90 charge to pick up and will not allow drop offs. NO WAY!, lamp,The lamp store is in another town 25 miles from here!

People tell me to just buy cheap lamps somewhere, like a thrift store. These are 100 years old. I did. buy them second-hand.

The grocery ads came out. The only things I see that I know I want is white grapes for $1.39/lb.  Oh, and I have not gotten Vidalia onions to dehydrate as I am not up to it, and they are on sale.

I suppose I should start washing and slicing squash.

Do you ever procrastinate just as long as you can and push yourself into a corner? This is one of my times, although this is not my style.

Tommy died

I am distraught! He died at 12:15 am on 3-14.
