Sugar Today

Yesterday, when I said the word 'sugar,' Tommy became louder and emphatic, "No, we don't need sugar because we have several bags." Well, this was news to me. Since he is the one always rummaging around in the food, I took him at his word. I told him to put it all by the sink.

There were five partial bags of sugar, not to mention the sugar cannister and quart jar of sugar I had in the cabinet. He put the five bags on the counter for me.

One bag had about a cup. Two had maybe 2 cups or more. The other bag, although open, still looked like nothing had been removed. In my defense, all these were in a store bag and twisted closed. And, they were over near the table on a chair.

I emptied them into two Tupperware cannisters until I can get three glass jars ready with the metal lids. I was tired from the trip to Cullman.

When I stepped over to reach for something further along the counter, I stepped in sugar, lots of sugar. The counter had sugar all over it! I managed to clean off the counter, leaving the sink full of sugar, too. When I lifted the last bag that held the full bag of sugar, there was a huge hole in it and it was full of sugar. What a mess! Tommy feels nothing on his feet, never checks for holes in bags, totally oblivious. Someday, he will learn.

So, the point of all this is that we have plenty of sugar considering I rarely use it and never bake anymore. Plus, I am not on top of things. Tommy does sort things, putting like things together. We have enough sugar to last years. He never uses it for coffee or in any cereal.

We went back to Publix to get the cartons of Pepsi that are b2g2 for Tommy and I shopped some more.

Tonight, we are having chicken cordonbleu and a casserole of zucchini, tomato, onion. It is the casserole that my children loved so much that we had three casseroles of it one night and they ate all three. They were such happy children that night.

The three pieces of bread had melted unsalted butter on them. I don't use much butter, but on the last bread chunks, I used salted butter and it was much too salty for my taste.

The blueberries have been in the crockpot all night, way too long. So, I will put them in half-pint jars and freeze some of them.

We went to the usual three stores today to get ads. I was so upset at one store, I just left. A witch works at the CS desk. At the other I bought a grab bag for $2. I will put that up tomorrow.

Dinner: chicken, bacon, ham, spinach; casserole with zucchini, tomato, onion, bread. This was hearty and filling and delicious. I gave Tommy my bacon and ham.

Tommy was filling his plate within five or six minutes of my removing the chicken dish and the casserole from the oven. Yet, he microwaved it. The casserole was burning my mouth, and I dipped mine first. He is obsessed with the fact he thinks all food must be boiling hot before he eats it. He ruins the food I cook. I am insulted.

The air is so dry that my hair is blowawy frizzy. It was still in the upper 80s and pleasant. However, the ac runs continually.

Do you use much sugar, bake much?

Do you ever find you are overrun with one pantry staple like sugar?

Do you know anyone who must have food microwaved until it is excessively hot?

Do You Drink Sweet Tea from McDonald's?

I had something to say, but I am too tired. I do want to share something with you.

A Tik Tok video showed a four-pound bag of White Satin Sugar into a container of tea at McDonald's. The amount is alarming. However, the worst part is that it is beet sugar. I do not consume beet sugar. Why?

Beet sugar, of course, comes from beets. As far as I know, beets for commercial use are Roundup Ready. The growing beets can be sprayed with Roundup to kill the weeds. However, the beets don't die from Roundup. The beets then have Roundup in them. I presume that beets have residue of Roundup.

This is the way I understand it.

When I see a good sale on sugar, I make sure I see the words "cane sugar." Otherwise, I don't take advantage of a super-low sale price.

Actually, beet sugar has an off taste in baked goods and in other uses. NOTE: I typed the previous sentence, wrongly stating that cane sugar has an off-taste.

Maybe you have information that cane sugar is not as pure as I think it is. I don't care. lol

Thankfully, when I was eight years old, my mother quit putting sugar in the pitcher of tea for supper each night. She said she was pregnant and did not want to gain too much weight. So, I can have tea without worrying about my health.

Do you avoid cane sugar? Do you just use anything that is labeled sugar?

Sleep, Dinner, Neutrogena, File Cabinet, Sugar, Heat

It unbelievable that I slept well two nights in a row. This afternoon, I lay down because I was tired and my back hurt. I told Tommy to get me up in two hours if I went to sleep. I don't remember lying down, but I awoke feeling okay, only to discover I had slept less than thirty minutes. I lay there for another hour just to rest.

When I lay down, all of a sudden the wind picked up and the rain was horrendous. Later, I saw little tufts of leaves were all over the yard from Tommy's huge maple in the back yard.

I think the lack of reading has been affecting me in many ways. I am only reading about 4-10 pages since I can work through tiredness and read until dawn. Or, at least that is what I have done in the past. So, Now, I know what I have to do. I have gathered together books to spur me on.

I made a big mistake in only getting one package of the bscb priced at $1.99/lb.! Next time, I will get at least 5 packages.

My a2milk was 3 half-gallons for $10. Since that price goes off today, I got 6 half-gallons. The last time I bought milk at this price, it actually lasted until now. When Tommy put them away, he said I have four half-gallons from a previous shopping trip. That makes ten half-gallons! Yikes. I need to drink milk and lots of it. Since I was ill, I did not drink much milk. But, this brand lasts two or three weeks past its best buy date.

We are having baked chicken tonight. Tommy will have the rest of the bell peppers/onions/zucchini I made last night and the leftover English peas. I will have a salad of diced tomatoes/basil/feta cheese with a drizzle of dressing. This means all leftovers will be finished. I don't count the salad greens or blueberries as leftovers. There is nothing cooked, prepared, or mixed to be eaten. Okay, I figured out we have another small helping of potatoes and green peas. So, there is that.

The baked chicken will last for three more days but I will have to prepare vegetables. I have two pounds of carrots, tomatoes, and frozen vegetables. I have spent all my allotted grocery money, but if a really good deal comes along between now and next Monday, I will break down and buy. There are enough fresh vegetables and fruit and frozen vegetables. We won't suffer for balanced meals.

Tuesday was spent in cleaning up a mess of papers and other stuff. It wore me out and looks no better as it seems the mess just was moved to another place! I need a file cabinet, so searching for that on Wednesday. In my file cabinet I used one drawer for office supplies. I did have things organized on a six-foot table where my computer and printer were located, but moved them to the file cabinet when I had a laptop and smaller printer. Here, with no drawers or closets to call my own, things are just stacked out in the open....sigh.

Did you have any of the Neutrogena sunscreen that had benzene it it? There is a recall.  I have two containers to turn in for a refund.

All these hummingbirds are certainly sucking up the nectar! I have had a wide-mouth quart jar full of sugar for ages. Now, I am going to have to buy more sugar. I use about a teaspoon every two days or so, and now I am using it by the half-cup. I need more feeders and really cannot afford more!

Today, the temperature in the shade felt like 103 according to the weather man. That is hot. How hot is it at your town?

A Few Things

I slept late today, and then slept more. Tommy has resisted trimming the length from my hair. Yesterday, he sort of agreed to it. Today, I sat on my walker with him behind me. I gave him a pick and hair-cutting scissors. He was supposed to cut an inch or less. It appears he did and my hair is none the worse for letting him get near it with scissors.

He mentioned he was going to get his prescriptions about five minutes before he wanted to go. I changed pants and put on a jacket. He went to a drive-in window, so no shopping for me. Then, I remembered that Dasani water was on sale somewhere. He said at the Pig or another place. We went to the Pig first and he was right. So, I shopped a bit.

3 24-packs Dasani water @ $3.40
1 Domino confectioners sugar 1@ $0.88
2 Domino dark brown sugar @ $0.88
1 Campbell's cream of mushroom soup $0.88
1 3-0z. McCormick black pepper $2.95
1 Mayfield ice cream sandwich $2.50
1 Uncle Al's Stage Planks $0.24

I spent $24 after they added their 10% and tax. I am holding out for sales this next week and the next.

These may not be the cheapest prices on things after I add the 10% to each item. However, the prices are well below prices in other stores. I can decide if I got a good deal when I see the coming sale prices. Anyway, it's done. I did not have to fight crowds or search for a sold out product.
There are still-packaged half gallon Ball jars I need to wash and fill with the sugars. What I do is stick the inner bags into the jar along with one flattened cardboard box from the product, well most of the box. I do not want a half-gallon jar with any loose sugar in it. Well, I don't mind cane sugar in the jar. I still do not have sugar.

Now that I have brown sugar and cinnamon, I am going to cut up Granny Smith apples and make a pie. Tommy will love that. Oh, I just asked him, and he said only three were left. Well, I can bake those.

Ugh! I need to prepare dinner. I found hotdog buns in the freezer, so I bought hotdogs. We are having hotdogs and the salad mix. Still, I would rather do something else. The first episode of Big Bang is on, so I will wait a few minutes. Buns and salad mix were free. I bought tomatoes that I added to the salad and the hotdogs, original recipe Zeigler with no chicken.

There is so much food here that I sent with him over the months. There is lots of meat and two pounds of butter that I could not store in my freezer. The only met I have bought is the two pork loins, but they were a good price at the Pig. So, we have not needed meat or butter yet. I also found few cans of peaches. He loves peaches. So, do I.

I am still swerving about, dizzy and feeling foolish. Hopefully, I will find out at the doctor's appointment next Monday. But, I have to be very careful rising or turning my head. Lying down makes me dizzy too, but I am in no danger of falling. Well, I did almost fall off the bed last night due to the bed spinning.

Pepper has been given to me that I cannot tolerate. Even with McCormick black pepper, I must have someone else fill a pepper shaker for me. I don't ever spill it, but the scent and stuff that obviously wafts into the air are not fun to breathe.

Have you found the items I bought any cheaper this year? Does any hint of pepper bother you?

Did I get this correct?

This is supposed to be on Practical Parsimony. So, is it showing up on moreparsimony? thi
