I Saved a Life

Chic fil A is coming to Hueytown!!! We rejoiced. I told Tommy we would have to set a limit on how many times we can allow ourselves to stop by. It is right near Publix.

I may have saved a life. A couple were walking across the parking lot in front of our car. I had Tommy roll the window down and wave him over. The man had thighs that were easily 36" in circumference. He had on shorts.

When the couple came over, I asked him if he had lymphedema. He said he did not know. I told him I thought he did because of how large his legs down to his feet were. His wife said he would not go to a doctor. They both kept going. I yelled and asked him if he had insurance. Wife said he had health insurance. I yelled back even louder, "Get life insurance on him." Well, he came back still leaning heavily on the grocery cart.

He asked me where to go. I told him. I said many doctors just said to lose weight. He nodded. We talked a bit more about his condition and the legs I used for therapy.

I hope he follows through.

I had one chance and he was walking away. So, I got his attention and he listened.

  1. Hopefully he will listen and get the proper diagnosis. Congratulations on getting Chic-fil-a. ❤️

    1. Belinda,
He had refused to listen to listen to his wife. He actually came back and asked, so maybe he will be serious.

  2. It was brave of you to try and educate that man. Most people don't take too well to strangers offering advice, unless they preface it with, "I am a physician. You should know that ..."

Mmm, Chick-fil-A. Love that place! But it's so gosh darned expensive. We have a Raising Cane's opening near us soon. We will definitely try it. Their menu is so limited, though. Not sure I've ever wanted toast for a side. A biscuit (like Popeye's)? Sure. But toast does not seem worthy.

    1. Sue,
I never tell anyone they "should do" anything. I doubt we will go to cfa more that once every three months.

  3. I am sure Chick Fil A is delicious, but I will never know as I won’t knowingly give one cent of my money to a corporation that supports,, or supports groups that support anti LGBTQ legislation.
I am glad you spoke to that gentleman. You may have changed their lives for the better. AND I am sorry it took so long for you to get the appropriate treatment. I am not overweight, but I know that sometimes that condition makes getting the medical community to take you seriously difficult. That tends to be the only condition they see. Then being a WOMAN, a woman of color, and a woman of a certain age, and I know that even regular checkups are like prepping for debate. It’s only going to get worse before it gets better.
You were out and about, so I take it you are feeling better?

    1. Meg,
That is a problem. We rarely go. I will try to do better.
I did not know you were a woman of color. Oh, yes, a debate for sure. I do get out to grocery even when I am feeling bad.

    2. I am not a woman of color, but family members are, and have been diagnosed as “HBW.” I won’t write what that means here. Mine is an immigrant heritage that doesn’t easily fit into an ethnonym. My maiden name caused a delay in a much needed diagnosis for gallbladder disease. It was later delayed due to being a childbearing woman. I was told the symptoms “ came with the territory.”

    3. Now, I am stymied since I tried to find out what HBW meant. Email me at lgd113@yahoo.com and explain to me, please.

This and That

Of course, I did not sleep well or long. So, what's new? I did not nap. Or, maybe I did. Finally, about 9 pm I went to bed missing the ...
