Life

On Monday I had an appointment at 9 am if you can believe that so early. It was agony to get up so early after only two hours' sleep. I did see the most delightful PA. She stuck a camera up my nose and had me make different sounds and say different words. Now, I have to have three appointments on one day and meet with the team. ???

This is all because I choke to the point I think I need the ER. Tommy is on the alert especially when he is not in the room that he may need to call 911. Imagine a meal being interrupted by choking that finally ends by throwing up multiple times.

They had to call me back with day when I could be tested by three people and meet with all three afterwards. March 2026 is date. I called and told them that was too long with these frightening things happening. So, I have one in December 2025. Better. I have to be there at 9:30 am, have three appointments, the last at 2 pm.

Monday, we did a Publix shop of things I did not get on the list.

Tuesday, after a sleepless night, we went to other two stores to shop sale items. I went to bed at 7 pm, woke at 11 pm. Why is four hours all I can sleep at one time? rhetorical question.

For over a week I have asked/begged Tommy to find turkey breast and cranberries in the freezer. Finally, today, I told him I would buy them again because I did not like harassing him every day. So, while I took a little nap, he found both. Remember, I have to thaw/cook for about two weeks to get it all done by Thanksgiving.

When I went to bed at 7 pm tonight/Tuesday night, Tommy cooked a pork loin with ribs. I could smell it when I woke to go to bathroom. Looking forward to that.

I wish that Tommy's investment guy would give us a Honey Baked turkey meal like he did one Thanksgiving. Or, was that Christmas?

Tommy has his first PT appointment tomorrow/Wednesday for hip replacement. Thankfully, it is late in the afternoon.

Thursday, electricians are coming to convert another room to copper wiring.

The temps will be 80 or higher this week. Love it.

Are you preparing for Thanksgiving dinner?

  1. I’m preparing but on a much smaller scale than we’ve done in the past.

    1. Belinda,
The closer Tday gets, the more I am scaling back our expectations. But, that's okay.

  2. How do you reheat all the food for Thanksgiving? It seems to me that if you have to put it all back in the oven anyway on Thanksgiving Day, you aren’t saving any work, but making work.
My sister in law is joining us. She offered to bring some side dishes, but I declined. We love her, she is an amazing woman, but her cooking is not to our liking. The kids joke that they want to say “Auntie, step away from the stove, please!”
I will bake a pumpkin cheesecake and Boston cream pie on Wednesday, and possibly potato skins. I will prepare (but not cook) the green bean casserole and stuffing casserole Wednesday night, and dry rub the turkey so all I have to do in Thanksgiving is pop them in the oven at the appropriate time. The day of I will wake early and put the turkey in, make deviled eggs, arrange charcuterie board, and heat the potato skins. The premade casseroles get out in 30 minutes before dinner. Then the only work I have to do at the oven then will be making the gravy and mashed potatoes. (I tried to get them to not have mashed potatoes but apparently they are compulsory Thanksgiving fare. Again, my upbringing wasn’t fully Americanized, so I don understand the potato overload on Thanksgiving. Growing up we had creamed onions, roasted carrots, oyster dressing, and mashed turnips as sides.) I am sure someone will buy brown and serve rolls and I am sure they will once again fail to get put in the oven. I always say that a Thanksgiving meal is not one of the fanciest meals there is, not at all very complex at all to prepare, but it sure does please the senses with its aromas and warm colors.

    1. I fill my plate and gently microwave it. Tommy will fill his plate and microwave it way too long. OR, I will microwave the gravy and it will be hot.
I am rethinking precooking everything. I may just cook the turkey breast that morning. I was planning on preparing the green bean casserole, anyway.
Thanksgiving is a good smell! Going to my mother's house, I smelled the food before I could open the door.

  3. I am still trying to get the fam to agree on a menu. If they don't cooperate with me soon, they will have nothing but turkey and cranberry chutney!

I made the cranberry chutney last week. I saw the recipe on FB and thought it looked interesting. It's fine, but I won't make it again as it isn't nearly as good as my traditional recipe. Sometimes, you just gotta stick with a proven winner, you know?

    1. I never mess with the cranberry sauce I make from berries. Plus, I also have canned, jelled cranberry sauce.

If they cannot decide, just cook a nice Thanksgiving dinner and let them eat that.

    2. I should just put out toast and cold cereal as punishment.
I don't want anyone's opinion unless I ask for it. But when I do, you darn well better weigh in or suffer the consequences!

    3. When I got tired of cooking a full noonday meal after going to church, one day husband and children asked what was for dinner, I said "pbj." There was outrage from husband. He refused to go out to eat on Sunday EVER.

    4. Why did your ex refuse to eat out on Sunday? Super religious? Or just cheap and lazy?
