Tuesday Things

I put the turkey bones on this morning, filled the pot with water and left the house about 10 am. When I got home after 5 pm, it looked like the same amount of water was in the pot! I checked to see if I thought the pot had been hot enough. I think it was well above 165F. So, I feel safe. Now, I have turned it up and will turn it down tonight when we go to bed.

This morning I had an appointment with a neurologist--nothing new or interesting and no tests. My fears were allayed.

THEN, I got a burger. We went to Big Box and I bought a can of silver glitter paint for the mum. It is sort of red from the red spray paint, but I will spray it with the silver glitter paint and put fairy lights in it. Then, I went to Publix.

Wednesday, I have an appointment about my toe. Tommy managed to half rip off his toenail with the seam of his pants. It is just hanging. Of course, it was loose or the seam could not dislodge it. So, hopefully, my doctor will see him. I called three podiatrists. One agreed to an emergency appointment just to remove the toenail, nothing else. The soonest emergency appoint was Jan. 15, 2022! That is the most positive response I received. What is it with podiatrists being so busy?

I started a new book--A Brief History of Time: Four Billion Years in Eight Chapters by Andrew H. Knoll.

It's almost 7 pm and we are going to search for the rest of the turkey in the freezer! Tommy can put a bin on his walker seat and I will hand things out, one shelf at a time. In the meantime, I will put another breast into the refrigerator to thaw.

We must get busy since I want to watch The Great American Light Fight, so I have to go. I love that show!

  1. I won't even leave the house with the dryer running, and you left a pot simmering on the stove for seven hours? Or was it a crockpot?

    1. Bobbie,
I know! I must have lost my mind! But, it was on simmer and had water to the top. Not a crockpot. My dryer overheated, so I am particular about not leaving it on when I am gone or sleeping. The washing machine ran over and flooded the kitchen and had gotten to the carpet, so that is watched, too. I am going to leave it on all night, tonight, too.

  2. I had the same thought right off the bat, as Bobbie did. It would worry me the whole time I was gone from home if I left something on the stove cooking, even on low. I would be worried about being in a wreck or something and not getting home in time before the liquid boiled away. I never would leave with the washer or dryer on either. One time, luckily my husband and I were both home, our dryer started putting out all kinds of black smoke, my husband went downstairs and unplugged it and made sure that there was no fire in it anywhere. I refused to use it again, I don't know if it would have worked or not. It was old and I felt safer getting a new machine rather than spending money for a repairman. Another time our dishwasher had something cause a lot of stinking smoke come out of it. I turned it off and left the door closed and kept an eye on it, deciding if I should call the fire department. I did not call them because the smoke stopped. The dishwasher didn't work the next time we tried to use it. Nothing had melted onto the heating coil, so I figure maybe something in the dishwasher wiring. I know I go overboard with not having heat making appliances on when we leave the house, because I won't even a crockpot plugged in when we are gone. And you wouldn't believe how many times I used to OCD-ishly have to come back in the house when I had started to leave for work, to make sure I had unplugged my curling iron.

    1. susie,
Your dishwasher and dryer made you extra wary of fire like my dryer did. Oh, I have come back to check the curling iron, too. Even though my curling iron turns itself off, I unplug it just the same. I don't trust the automatic turn off! Black smoke would just terrify me.

    1. Kim,
Well, I am writing a book. But, why would you think it would be me?
