Roach Clips

It seems that roach clips are the new way to attach ornaments, even the balls. Most of the ornaments sold one at a time are glued onto a roach clip. I wonder how long this will last. Have you seen ornaments with roach clips glued to them?

Tommy went to my doctor after I spoke to my doctor about my toe and explained that Tommy's toenail was coming off and hanging there. So, Tommy likes him is going back for another appointment. We both have an appointment in January, mine first and his 15 minutes later so we can make one trip.

Tommy's toenail was hanging by a strip at the base of the nail. Tommy said it did not hurt at all, just a snip, snip, snip. He said the doctor had a needle and pain med lying there in case it was necessary. It was not red or anything. It has a Band-Aid on the toe, so I cannot see it.

As we left the parking deck, the attendant asked Tommy--who are you for, Auburn or Alabama? Tommy replied that he went to Auburn. The guy was happy and told Tommy there would be no charge for parking because "Alabama has hurt us enough." I hope he has a job next time we go there...lol.

We went to Publix for eggs. I hate to run out and I had just eaten the last of them Thursday. The chair by the dumpster in the park was still there, and I examined it and left it. It was a chrome, metal-framed chair with padded seat and padded back. It looked like something a mechanic would have in his office for customers.  I know the seat had gotten wet and the back, too. The chrome was in good shape, however. And, dew has formed since it was put out.

Formerly, I would gotten the chair, strip wood and material, replace the wooden seat bottom, upholster the seat, and tighten or replace screws in the metal frame. It was rickety side to side. There will be other chairs. I don't have a work place here. I had bought a worktable the size of a sheet of plywood for my basement at my house. This chair was going to be one I sit in either outdoor to work in carport or to work inside.

Tommy's pen needles from Amazon and my hair color arrived safely with no detours to the woods. We have no gifts or anything pricey expected, but I hope it all gets here safely.

Have you noticed as you type that we have a spellcheck on blogger that runs all the time and for each word? It is good. I could have sworn I typed "chrome" instead of "chrone" like I did. I check to see why there were two blue lines beneath. However, it does not do so well with commas and such. I know the rule to refute their proclamations, so I refuse to change commas.

We watched "Annie Live" on Thursday night. Did you see it? I cried, bawled at first because it was so sad. I knew what was going to happen, but I could not get over the sadness.

Friday, I bought One A Day Vitamins for Women 50+ for my Pink Purse Project I started last year. I need to go out with a list and get the buying finished. It will be Christmas before I know it.

Sooo, I suppose there was nothing to say?

  1. You got me chuckling. We must have grown up in the same time period. Roach clips! I have seen many things with those little clips on them.
I have noticed the word correct thing too recently. It even corrects punctuation at time.
    Bummer on the chair

    1. Cheryl,
I was born in 1946. You? In the past I have seen hair feathers and hair adornments using roach clips. But, they were everywhere this year on ornaments, of all things.
Don't listen to the punctuation suggestions.
I was bummed at first. I am over it.

  2. Never would I ever have thought I would read a post title Roach Clips by you. The title alone made me laugh. I did not watch Annie-I'm not really a fan of the music. sorry to say.

Roach clips were ubiquitous when I came of age. Even though never used one, I knew what they were. I am glad you laughed. I will never watch it again as it was just too sad.

  3. Your title cracked me up! I just turned 70 and we clipped them to our denim jacket pocket flap to be cool. Do they use roach clips today?

I am foot sensitive. When in college, I worked the overnight shift at a medical answering service. Close to 100 doctors on the board. One podiatrist. I always asked the other operator to answer his line. I figured that at 3AM, chances are it's either a wrong number or something gory. I just can't do feet. I don't want anyone touching mine either. I hate feet! My late husband had the nails removed from both big toes. For the next year, until he died, I never saw them and we didn't talk about them.

Oh, and I recorded Annie but haven't watched it yet.

I think they do use roach clips today. Of course, bobby pins could be used for a roach clip...lol...I read a lot. I don't remember clipping them to a jacket, but it could have happened. I know I never did.

I hate anyone touching my feet. I am afraid they will hurt my feet. That is funny about the podiatrist and your aversion. I would die if I had to have my toenails removed. I imagine it hurts so much! Thanks for that.

    1. Anne,
You can have a look and not buy ornaments. I wanted poinsettias for a wreath. I will still wire them onto the wreath because glue can become brittle.

  5. I think a big "roach clip" on Christmas ornaments would be hard to cover on the tree. I have some little decorative cardinal birds that attach to my Christmas wreath and I have a heck of a time trying to hide that big clip on them. It's unfortunate they they have put them on ornaments now.

When my Dad was sixteen years old he was at his grandparents house cutting fence posts for a fence they had on their property. He cut the tip of his big toe off while he was working. It was bleeding bad. The toe end of his leather shoe remained intact. They took him to the hospital. The toe tip could not be reattached. You know how little kids love to hear the same stories over and over, I don't know how many times I wanted to hear the story of my Dad's toe. It almost kept him out of the Marine Corps. They made him do all kinds of extra exercises, and stand on his tip toes for long periods of time and then other exercises for extremely extended lengths of time and finally decided he was fit to go into the marines. During his lifetime, I don't remember him having any problems related to that toe. Dad felt pretty good until he was 91, when he was 90 he drove out to see where his grandparents used to live, the big brick house was gone, the hill had been graded down to add soil to even out where a major highway was built, but there at the edge of what had been my grandparent's property, he could see that same wood fence he built nearly 75 years ago.

    1. susie,
I replied to your comment and it just disappeared as this morning, it is gone. The roach clip barely shows when I look at my hummingbird ornament. When I clip it to branches, it disappears. I think the glue will crack with age, but maybe this is a new type glue.

Well, that was a good story and gory. Can you imagine the pain? I am glad he got treated and glad it did not keep him out of the Marines. Yes, little kids like to hear stories over and over. It is amazing he drove to his farm at 90 and amazing the fence still stood. They did a good job building the fence. Thanks for that story.

  6. According to the ex druggies in the family (I have 3 now that have been drug/booze free for a few years) Forceps is what is used now if anything. Roach clips have went to decorations. The napkin holders I bought 20 yrs ago have them, the ones I just bought have them.

    1. Chef,
Forceps seems like overkill and so obvious if a person were trying to surreptitiously smoke. I don't understand how a roach clip would work as a napkin holder. What kind of napkin holder?

  7. It’s been a long time since I thought of a Roach clip. I’ve not looked at any ornaments this year to see if there is one attached or not. That would work well for some ornaments.

Same here and they were never in my thoughts when they had an alternative use. They seem to work well for the ones I bought. Others may not be a good fit.

It has been there for quite a while. It follows along as you type and underlines words in blue. If the checker deems that a word is wrong, the blue remains. You can click on the word and a menu appears with choices. However, watch out when it corrects punctuation because it is often wrong.

  9. These days those clips are called Alligator clips.

A few years ago I bought some tree ornaments with clips. They are birds and butterflies. This year I am not decorating. At Trader Joe's I bought a wreath for the front door, and a potted Ivy topiary shaped like a wreath (or circle) It came with a string of fairy lights and is quite festive! I added a red bow to the door wreath and bought a couple of blooming Christmas cactus. I believe they are actually Thanksgiving cacti but since that holiday has passed I'm just going to call them Christmas Cactus.

I brined a large chicken then baked it for our Thanksgiving dinner. I baked 2 pies, One pumpkin & one pecan for my son in law. They came for a visit the day after Thanksgiving. I forgot to send the pecan pie home with him. Over the course of the week I ended up eating the ENTIRE PIE by myself. I don't normally go for sweets but that was one tasty pie!

    1. Janet,
I think alligator clips was the name and people who needed to hold a roach so they would not burn their fingers trying to smoke it all. Thanks. I was trying to remember.

Your decorating sounds quite festive! I don't know the difference between Thanksgiving and Christmas cactus and Easter cactus. But, Christmas cactus sounds good to me.

Since it took me over a week to get Thanksgiving together, yours sounds great. I love pecan pie! You can make him one for Christmas or sometime this season.

  10. I've only ever seen alligator clips used for ornaments that need to "perch" like the butterflies and birds Janet mentioned.
The difference between those cacti is both in leaf shape and blossom appearance, as well as the time they bloom. I used to get exasperated at my "Christmas" cactus blooming so soon before Christmas. Poor thing was actually a Thanksgiving cactus and doing what it was born to do.

Yes, for birds and flowers, and such.

That is funny about your frustration and confusion with the cactus. Poor thing...talk nice to it now. I have heard there is a difference but did not remember.

    1. Urspo,
Roach clips are alligator co-opted for smokers of pot. They can smoke the whole roach if they can hold it by a roach clip. This an academic approach from me as I never used one or saw one in use.

Alabama and Auburn are teams in the Iron Bowl, most likely the biggest football rivalry in the US. We are Auburn fans. Maybe Someone is a football fan?

  12. Well During the 60's I certainly DID use a roach clip. Not as soon as the Summer of love (1967) but during the next few years I did have opportunity to do a little experimenting.

Things out here in California are legal.
    Currently I am experimenting
with some CBD oil for arthritis pain. The jury is still out on if it is helpful or not. I do believe it is helping but need more time to see results.
