Electrical Work

Electrician assured me it would be okay to rewire our house and splice aluminum wire with copper. They were going to replace fuses with

No, it is not according to code--illegal! This was the first of many lies. He wanted us to move out and leave him and crew with complete control of our house.

The first big, fat clue this was going to go wrong was his assurance that they were a Christian company and whatever worry I had was not going to happen.

Cost--$46K.

Even though he pressed for upfront of $5K and we paid for it, we will get our money back and have contracted with someone else.

Have you had experience with rewiring your house?

  1. Yikes! I’ve not had any experience rewiring a house before. That is so expensive at $46K. 😳

  2. You know, a local, reputable realtor could probably refer you to reputable service providers—plumbers, electricians, etc.

  3. I have never had a house rewired, so I don't know costs. But finding an ethical electrician can be a problem, as you are learning. All I can recommend is to keep getting estimates (as hard as that can be, I know) and comparing them. Keep doing your research online as to what is and isn't' code-compliant work.

As Ghandi said, "I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ"

    1. Sue,
The thing is that I know snippets of information. I declared that tying aluminum to copper was not code, therefore illegal. Tommy and electrician both tried to convince me.

      Like what Ghandi said.

  4. I just now realized you resumed blogging, so I was glad to see that. I had been wondering how you are doing, so now I'm caught up :) I've never had a house rewired, but whoever you hire make sure they are licensed and I'd get a few quotes, as I'm sure they vary a lot. We had several quotes from electricians when we built our house and they were wide ranging for the same job.

    1. One,
For some reason Practical Parsimony would not work and by itself reverted to this blog.
We are in the process of getting other quotes. I don't think I any longer have energy for this process. We are remodeling the house. I gently mention something we need done until he thinks it is his idea. I never argue about it so that he will not dig in heels and continue to disagree out of principle.
Can you email me at lgd113@yahoo.com ? Thanks.
