November 1 Butterflies

As usual, sleep was elusive. Then, I didn't get my proper breakfast because I didn't. Tommy brought almost all the Halloween stuff in. He sat the skeleton on a box right in the bedroom door. It looks like Skelley was on his knees and sat back on his heels with one arm up. He is the kind of skeleton that has joints that can be posed. Tommy bought him for me using some sort of discount and used a store coupon. So, he was cheap.

Eating the wrong things sent me to sleep. I felt miserable the rest of the afternoon and evening after a long nap.

I got up at 6:30 this morning after forgetting to reset the wall clock near me. So, I guess that was 5:30. I opened a refill of a prescription and found the wrong pill. After searching, it is an opioid, apparently. Wrong thing. As much as I would like a lot of pain relief, I won't take even one! I searched again. I have the correct pill, just from different manufacturer.

It was shocking to read the side effects, No wonder I am dizzy, cannot sleep, memory problems, all sorts of things. I can die without this but have no brain with it. Bummer!

Tommy sleeps so easily. I can sit with dim light on and type or read. It seems nothing bothers him. Sometimes, if I have the TV on when he goes to sleep, he asks me to lower it, but I just turn it off.

When we shopped for chairs at Lazy Boy, the store kept delaying the delivery date, so we cancelled the two chairs and bought these on sale. They are Ashley, but bought from local store. Tommy's feet are never above his heart since these feet never raise to level of chair seat and he never lies back much. His hips and knees won't bend adequately. This discussion with him has not been loud as usual when I broach something. So, I believe getting him a chair that gives his blood a little help in getting back to his heart will lessen his swollen legs and improve his life. I will put mine into my bedroom. His will probably need to be sold. Maybe not.

I am making a list of things to be sold from this house. Most of those items are mine. It will give us more room and me more money.

It was August when we last had the grass mowed. Some pretty little (short) weeds have bloomed. They attract butterflies. I remember as a child being thrilled when so many butterflies were out. Yesterday we saw what looked like a red butterfly flitting about. We were both just thrilled.

Since Tommy has St. Augustine grass, it is not tall, just lush. I like it cut high, anyway.

From now to Thanksgiving, I will be planning and cooking for Thanksgiving dinner. Beauregard sweet potatoes will be first. They will be roasted, peeled, and frozen for the main meal, maybe a sweet potato pie since Tommy loves them better than pumpkin pie. If not a pie, I will heat up the frozen sweet potatoes, put a dab of butter on them and eat them sans sugar. Making cranberry sauce will be next.

Are you planning your headlong rush to Thanksgiving? Or, are you going to wait until the day before and start cooking?

    1. Urspo,
Just have another glorious day of Thanksgiving food. It's the food that makes the day.

  2. I like sweet potatoes, but I don't like them with marshmallows or sugar. To me, they're much better savory. With some butter, salt, lots of pepper, and perhaps a dab of sour cream.

    1. Sue,
The Beauregards need no sugar. Marshmallows ruin sweet potatoes. I only use dark brown sugar. I don't think I could handle salt and pepper on them, but have never tried it. When I see marshmallows on top of a sweet potato dish, my heart sinks.

  3. I don't know what Thanksgiving will look like for me this year. If anything, I'll go to my late hubby's family get together. So the only cooking I'll have to do is a side dish or two. It's a weird world when I spent so much of my life a part of this family because of him and now he's gone.

  4. Alice,
Hopefully, it will be easy on you. Sorry about missing your husband while with his relatives. I forgot. When did he die?

I knew it happened but not when. I hope all is well with you and your family.

    1. Anne,
Maybe you will draw the 'nothing much at all' straw.

  6. I wrote you a comment, but me being me typing on my phone, it vanished, so apologies if this is a duplicate.
How do you reheat the food you pre- cook? I find that most things all go in a 350 degree oven, just at different times, so cooking ahead doesn’t save me anything. I will assemble the green bean casserole and the potatoes (and broccoli casserole if I make it) the day before. I will also bake a pumpkin cheesecake and make some appetizers the day before if requested.
As for your prescription, I don’t understand…did the pharmacy give you the wrong medication in the bottle? Doesn’t a pharmacist need to check and do a consult before you leave? (We can’t get away here without a pharmacy consult!) If not, you need to ask for a pharmacy consult before you pull away from the window to check it against your doctor’s orders. I know it’s a pain, but it’s more of a pain to have an incorrect prescription and have to go back.

    1. Meg,
I cannot prep more than one thing at a time. I cannot put more than one thing in the oven at a time. My energy level is very low. I only have an hour or so each day when I feel human.
I rechecked and the prescription is one from a different manufacturer. Plus, several drugs have same numbers on them. That seems ridiculous.

    2. But who made that mistake? The pharmacy? You need to address that.
