For Sale

I slept 12 hours and awoke feeling like I had been beat all over with a stick. Then, I stayed gone from here for many hours.

The men have just a little to do to finish the yard, putting dirt on it and compacting it. It is so sad. I cry a lot. I am just waiting for the rest of my stuff to be stolen. If you live near me, Cullman, I have things I will sale--bbq grill, swing, firepit.

The gas grill with propane tank has been used little even though it is about 20 years old. The swing is green mesh, metal swing with the frame it hangs on. The firepit has never been used. There may be other things to sell if people don't steal it first. Grill--$25, swing--$25, Firepit--$10.

Tommy is the one who bought the power cord for me so I could use internet to look for a place to stay. I broke down and asked him.

Tomorrow at 9 am, I have another barium swallow because I am choking so and complaining to doctor on Wednesday.

I was surprised to see that the city did not remove the twisted chicken pen. They just shoved it aside, it appears. It is a chain link dog fence that is free for the taking. There is a lot of hardwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I just now got my little finger nail stuck between keys and could not get it out. That is a first for me. There is a lot of hardware cloth and an expensive large tarp with it. Let me know if you want anything. Don't just take it because the police are watching my house. lol

Being homeless is hard. I have literally had to beg for food! I don't look like a substance abuser. Agencies who know my problem say to go to food banks. That does not work. I begged a place to give me a hamburger! I cannot sit on cubs and beg because I would never be able to get up!

Tonight, I decided to drive 4 miles to get a Coke. I locked key in room and had to get one by ringing bell. I got back and the key did not work. So, I had to put down my stuff, unlocking the car so I could see if I had used a loose key in my purse or key he gave me. Finally, I dropped the loose key. I found it but promptly dropped it again and could not find it. THEN, I had to get him up again. I told him the story and said maybe he needed a flashlight. He got another key, found the one I dropped and tried the door. I was correct. The key would not open the door. So, he opened the door and gave me the good key. Of course,, I handed it right back, telling the key was in the room. Whew! I hate to be so much trouble. I thought he did not like me because he had had a perpetual frown. Tonight, he had a pleasant look and told me not to worry. Maybe a ditzy woman causes him not to frown. ???

Tonight is my last night in motel unless I can scare up $60. Churches do not return calls. I could be prospective member! I just leave my name and phone number. Even places for the homeless do not return calls. I guess they have all the businesses they need.Going to bed.

  1. I am so sorry to read that you are homeless now! I had to read a few back posts to see what happened! I hope the situation will be temporary and you can find emergency housing. Is there no one with whom you can stay while all this is being sorted out?

    1. Eeryone is shocked there is no emergency housing in this county. The nearest place is the Birmingham Rescue Mission. No one has offered. People quit calling me. I suppose I would not even be a proper dinner guest. No one has offered me a bed. The one person I asked was adamant about not allowing me to come there.

  2. Linda, what about your 3 children? You have no siblings/family who would help you out? I just don't understand. I would never allow my parents to be homeless. NEVER. I don't get along with a few of my siblings, but I would never allow them to be hungry or homeless. Why are you resisting to reach out to your children or other family members? You're in a desperate situation here & appear to not have a lot of choices. Please reach out to them.

  3. Have your children been made aware of your situation despite living in other states? Did you own your home and the lot it sat on? You need to sit down and think...Homeowners insurance? Apply for emergency state benefits. You are eligible. You can apply on your computer.

    2. Don't tell me to sit down and think. How insulting. All I do is think, even when I should be thinking. I have contsacted dozens of places. They end up giving me each other's phone numbers! I am not a "family."

    3. I did not mean to insult you in any way. Hope you get some type of help. Take care.

    4. By saying that is in no way an insult. Read your own posts, your mind is everywhere but where it needs to be. Three things, shelter, food, medication. Gather yourself up, give yourself a hug and call agencies for help. Tell Tommy to get off his behind and HELP YOU. That is what friends do for each other. You have helped him A LOT. Your readers are really concerned. If you need assistance call Salvation Army of Greater Birmingham Emergency Housing directly at: 205-328-2420

  4. Have you considered a nursing home? It appears from what you have written that you would meet the requirements for Medicaid to cover the cost and you would have shelter, food and health care. You could continue to look for independent housing but not have to worry so much about your basic needs. It isn’t ideal but better than homeless.

  5. I do not understand why Tommy would let you be homeless. I'm sorry you have to deal with all this and I hope something will work out for you soon.

  6. hi, PP! i do not know about your state, in RI, we can dial 2-1-1, 24 hours a day, it`s run by the united way, and they are good sometimes, about getting things moving. we also have the department of elderly affairs, who assign clients a case worker, which sometimes gets the wheels turning. in that same vein, the AARP might help, they started the group to help a retired teacher who was living in a chicken house!! i also saw a video on youtube about a southern church group who puts up mobile homes on elderly peoples property, if their homes become unlivable for any reason; you may be able to watch that video on youtube. also, habitat for humanity has a website, they may be of some help. i wish i could donate something, you deserve all the love and support you can get, but an ill child living at home, with no income (not her fault), has cleaned me out. i think about you, and hope things resolve soon. take care, marianne :>)

  7. Linda, I hope things improve for you. I know that welfare systems are slow and inefficient. It's frustrating and probably dangerous.
    Hang in there!

  8. You must be sick of suggestions, but what about your neighbor who took in the two meth heads? If only for a month?

  9. Hey Linda :) I have been in your position a few times in my life. Things happen. I've been reading your blog for years and I've never commented. I gather from what I've read that you are a strong and resilient woman, someone who knows how to live on a limited income including the resources that are available to you. You've done okay these past many years, and you will do okay again. This may be forward and I'm no stalker type, but if you want an ear to bend about it all with someone who has an idea of what is happening to you at the moment, I'm more than happy to give you my phone #. Hang in there, you'll make it out :)
