Here

I called agencies who gve me other agencies' numbers. City officials are giving me numbers. One place had 8-10 month waiting period. was doing things all week, making calls and such.

I won't have internet until We night. Tommy pAYS $86 for spectru, tv and adding internet and wifi will bring his bill to $84! ???

I do not qualify for nursing home. I own land.

At the moment of crisis I had land and did not qualify. If I sell, ex made e sign he would get portion of sale value> I signed it out of fear. Student loans has tthier hands out. So, I would have nothing at all.

I am going to start a GoFundMe campaign to get a house built, small, but adequate. I am looking into getting trailer on lot for time I can build.

People came into my house and ransacked it. I cam imagine what would happen if it was alone during building.

Remember black chickens.. Search.

I do not need to be in a nursing home. absurd and insulting.

Right now, I am in Birmingham Public Library. Tommies Rollator broke and he fell. So, a little stressed right now for that reason and my reasons, too.

I just asked Tommy and he said I did not need to be in nursing home or assisted living!

Definiiton of homeless varies, but not having a place of your own is one of the criteria, living with someone who just lets you stay there. Of course, I will still continue to have expenses of daily living and bills I owe.

I am still homeless.

No editing.

  1. I think you might need to sell the land and get into a small senior rv. community. You would have people near you and what will you do why waiting for a home to be built?

  3. Lindsay. Nothing is insulting if it gets you proper food, shelter and so on. This is what you are in immediate need of. A nursing g home is not a person and you could still search and plan for your future. Find safe housing and food and then deal with the house. This is what I would tell any client who came to me no matter the age.

  5. could you put a trailer on your lot with gofundme? It would be ready in a matter of days, you live there indefinitely with no rental fees, are you zoned for something like that? really living in a nice trailer is the easiest for keeping up with daily living, I've done it so I know.

  6. I think it would be helpful to have a social worker helping you to figure out what to do next. They would know what agencies could actually help you.

  7. so glad to hear from you PP!! it may sound far fetched, but have you considered going on a local radio/tv show, or an article in one of your local newspapers? that you need a mobile/tiny home, the squeaky wheel gets the grease! i respect your need for privacy, and i agree; assisted living is not yet indicated. who knows, it might hook you up, you might have a wow factor for media, just think about it, maybe. i`ll be pullin for ya, GD

  9. If you do the nursing home route...medicaid will bill you via a lien on your property, so you will essentially end up not owning the property. Beware of this. They make no bones about it: "Medicaid may put a lien on your house for the amount of money spent on your care." (The 'may' is misleading, they always do.) Its in the multitude of documents you sign. If you sell your property within 3 years of going into a care facility, they will seize whatever assets you have in the bank (or go after your heirs).

So, lets not trust social workers, who never seem to "get" the financial risks of getting involved with the government for care. And shame on all of you who suggested this...because it's insane. Clearly you never read the fine print, or contacted an elder attorney on these points.

Go to the bank, find out what kind of line-of-credit you can qualify for to get a trailer, and get someone to move it to your property... and hook it up. Even if you have a very LOW monthly note to pay, it's less than you've paid for fleabag motels. And, keep it nice, and you can resell it once you get a house built.

Get a trailer, get it places, and get it hooked up...and THEN you can start to collect your wits, and figure things out. Homeless no more... and then you can focus on the next step.

It is appalling how little "HELP" there is in this country, and even more so in your state. Most people are blissfully unaware of this, and sit secure thinking that there are safety nets.

    There aren't any.

  10. re: medicaid "asset recovery"
Medicaid will often pay for nursing home care even for those who have assets that could be used to pay for care. ... But after the person's death, the state Medicaid program can try to collect medical costs from the deceased person's estate. This is called "estate recovery."

Most people don't find out until their loved one has died, and then, when they try and settle the estate find that it is locked, and has a lien on it by the government. The amounts charged for "in care" are much higher than anyone discloses to you -- in that they tend to figure out how much the estate is worth, and adjust to seize the most $$ possible. FYI... suggesting a care home is just crazy.

  11. If you don't pay for your own care who should party for it?

    2. Medicaid has a 5 year "look back" period...so if she sold her only asset, now, and then ended up in some facility that is Medicaid paid, they would still suck up whatever money, just do it sooner and faster. Skilled care, and assisted living are exactly the same in Medicaid's eyes.

  13. I think people are confusing nursing home with assisted living. They are not the same. Linda would probably not qualify for a nursing home which is skilled care. An assisted living facility offers three meals a day, a little help and many amenities. Usually transportation is provided for appointments and shopping, At many you have to pay for it entirely by yourself, at others Medicaid is available. At assisted living one may keep a car.
