Is it cold yet? Good News

Bananas are within arm's reach. Since it is wet all over the northern half of the state, the roads will freeze tonight. Thankfully, I have bananas. Otherwise, I would now be out getting bananas if I did not have any.

First world problem? Yes, I have so much more than bananas.

Last night, amazingly, my feet were warm. So, I slept well. Now, my feet are almost skinny again. I need to keep them skinny for my comfort. And health. We still keep the heat at 64F, so I am not sure how I kept them warm. AND, I keep my feet on the ottoman.

However, I am still barefoot and in short gown. Tommy dresses more warmly. I have a light, soft, knit jacket I often slip on so my arms will not get cold. It is going down to 14F tonight, so Tommy has gone out to hang a bulb in his washer so it won't freeze.

Good News

My allergist has been approved to receive the Moderna vaccine! I have had my name in for a month. This vaccine will be for those who are patients of the allergist. So, now the doctor must receive the vaccine. I am much relieved he is approved since I had a bad reaction to a vaccine and so did my infant daughter 4 years later.

How cold is it at your house? What is the projection for tonight?

Is anyone having a vaccine at an allergist office?

  1. We are supposed to get down to -1 tonight. I bumped our heat up to 70 in the house. It is snowy and icy right now. They have already closed schools for tomorrow. My kids will have to do remote learning instead.

  2. Rachel,
Our predicted 14 seems downright warm...lol. It will only go up to 32 tomorrow. Schools are closed around here, mostly all of north AL. I am glad it will be so warm here.

  3. Our forecast is for the teen's and 20's every night for the next five. Our heat is set to 71 and I currently have on leggings underneath my jeans, two pairs of socks, a tshirt and a sweatshirt, and I have been under a heated throw most of the afternoon. I have already turned on the electric blanket on the bed for later.

    1. Alice,
It got down to 29F, so I put on thin socks but still have on a summer gown. I hope you stay warm tonight!

    2. Thank you! It's currently 8 degrees this morning. Not sure what the low actually was. I cranked the electric blanket up another notch when I got into bed last night and finally warmed up around 4AM when I threw the covers off. The perimenopause finally kicked in, I suppose.

    3. Alice,
It was abut 5 am when I got to sleep. Since the doctor won't give me premarin any more, I am never able to regulate my body temperature AND I am normally hot without menopause when happened over 30 years ago.

  4. We've had tornado warnings the last 2 days in the late afternoon- I actually listened to the alert and took a pillow and radio to my windowless bathroom for several minutes. Yesterday at noon I got the second Covid vaccine YAY! No side effects so far and I slept well. I don't have any allergies but fire ants though!

    1. Nan,
Take your cell phone, too. That is scary! Good for you getting the vaccine.

  5. We are down to negative temps tonight. We got a lot of snow, so I'm afraid of icy conditions with the low temps tonight.

I must always have bananas too. We eat it every day.

    1. Ms Goose,
It is so cold here, just 21 degrees at noon! I am staying in so I don't fall. I have three bananas, so I am good through Friday. Negative temps are rough. Stay warm and safe.

  6. Our house is very drafty and the floors are cold (the only thing I dislike about hardwood floors). Thermostat set at 75 degrees, I have an awful chill on me. I think it is maybe 3 degrees outside, with 4 or 5 inches of snow on. It has been terrible cold like this for days and nights on end. I am worried about my crepe myrtle bushes, even though we put leaves around the bottom of them enclosed by chicken wire. I hope the leaves will be enough, but I bet the myrtles will freeze back all of the way to the ground this year. They are such a pretty sight in my front yard when they don't freeze down to the ground and are about 5 1/2 foot high and covered in bright fuschia blooms. I made vegetable beef noodle soup today and it did warm me up for a while and tasted good too.
I started out with a nightgown on and as I got colder this evening I have added layers, so now it is the night gown, flannel pajama pants under the nightgown, flannel matching pajama top over the gown, socks with rubber gripper design on bottom, and am sitting in the chair covered with a different pattern flannel robe. My chair is too close to the window which makes it colder, too, but it is the only place for my chair.

I wish our part of Missouri would get their act together with the vaccine locations. The man who is head of the largest hospital in our area, one of top largest hospitals in the United States, has stated that we haven't gotten enough vaccine for this part of the state. I think he may have angered our Republican Governor. I don't know when to even try to schedule my vaccination because I will be having serious eye surgery in early spring and I have to be able to have the second vaccination well after my eye is healed, because the recovery from the eye surgery is rather difficult. I don't know exactly when I will get my surgery either.

    Take care and stay cozy.

  7. Warm floors is the only advantage of carpet, but there is still a draft! Well, you are certainly bundled up and I don't blame you. In my house, I had to do the same thing. Bundling up is the only thing to do, I suppose.

It is too bad that people use their power to deny people the vaccine. I hope you can get the vaccine scheduled to coincide with the window for eye surgery. I have procedures I need to have done, too. This is so scary.

    You stay safe and warm.
