Too Pooped to Type

I was so sad Colin Powell died. He was a hero of mine. His situation shows why we should be so careful of infecting people. He was vaccinated, but had multiple myeloma. So, the vaccine was not very effective for him. I mourn.

If I don't visit or leave a comment, consider I am exhausted and have been busy. Today, Tommy had an appointment to get new tires at 11 am. We got there at 11 am and asked how long it would take. I rode with him. Then, my gastrointestinal tract betrayed me and I had to go home and change clothing. So, he took me home; I jumped out; he went directly back. We are less than a mile from the shop.

Once I cleaned up and changed clothes, tried to recover and went back in my car. Tommy got into my car because I needed something to eat. So, did he.

We went back about 1 pm and the car was not done because she said, "he had to leave." Yet, it was on the rack with only one tire, and old one on the vehicle. She was very accusatory which I did not like. Okay, at 3:15, the woman called back as it was done.

I drove him back, so he could get it. It was over $800. However, there was a b3g1, and he had a coupon for free installation. So, with alignment, he paid ~ $790. I asked and he has absolutely no idea what the savings were.  And, and this card will give him cash back. So, now we are driving on good tires.

Today, I wanted to go and buy a recliner with the lift mechanism. I really need it. But, I spent all day at the ready and spent the time getting tires! I saved one of my stimulus for this purpose. Tomorrow, we must do something else.

The Dollar Tree was on my list of places to go. I managed to get in and shop. There was no shelf stable milk, what I was looking for to buy. It is $1, so I try to keep it. Just before it expires, Tommy drinks it. Then, I get more. No, that was not in the cards today. So, I still need to do that.

My new wool blanket is wonderful. I put it on my bed last night, right on top of a quilt, a comforter and a fuzzy blanket. It was warm when I got into bed, but I lay still, cooled off and slept well all night.  The comforter was the only thing pulled up to my shoulders. The comforter and fuzzy blanket were only over my feet, how I have used them all summer. Now, I want to find another one on eBay.

Right now, I am going to try to get a gigantic hen in a baking bag. This meat will be taken off the bone by Tommy. Chicken and dumplings is on the menu some day.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a brand recliner? I hate the wide arms that recliners usually have, but I want the seat to be wide. I also hate that big bumpy part for the head. It pushed my head forward and crushes my hair, and wraps around my face!

    1. Ann,
The prices are amazing! It is so hard for me to shop in there. It is the standing!

  2. Oh, chicken n dumplings sounds so good. I’ve not made for awhile, but I need to add that to the menu soon. I don’t have any recommendations for recliners, but I know exactly what you mean about the head thing. My son and DIL have a recliner that also serves as a rocker. I call it the chair from h***. Somehow the neck part sticks out and it gives me a headache every time I rock my grand baby.

    1. Carol,
That is my main requirement--no head thing to kill my neck! Thanks. Now I know I am not the only one with that problem.

  3. I hate recliners! If I lean back in one, my legs seem to go to sleep & yes the head things are awful! I like a nice comfortable padded rocking chair.
My sister was telling me she was all the way back in her lift recliner and the electricity went off for several hours. She 82 and pretty weak. She said her daughter had to come help her get out. Maybe they have a lever to push in case that happens, but doubt she could use it.

They do have a lever, but many have and emergency power supply for at least one use. That would be annoying to be in that position.

  4. Try Wayfair.com for the chair lift. They have several types.

  5. I was surprised that Walmart and Home Depot had power lift recliners. Both places had some without the awful headrest.

    1. I won't buy one from WM. I will call Home Depot and maybe try one.

  6. That seems super high for having gotten free installation and one tire free! What sort of vehicle does he have?

He said it was so high because of the way prices are going up. He has a Nissan Rogue.

  7. Do you need an automatic recliner, or one with a handle to help you? All our chairs recline, but you'd never know it--they don't look like recliners. I would suggest you check Macy's and Costco, also Lazy Boy, but they are expensive. (J.C. Penney has nice furniture too, but I am boycotting all Texas based businesses.) Finally, Powell didn't get COVID because he got vaccinated, he got COVID because others DIDN'T get vaccinated. Of course vaccine don't work if people don't get them.

    1. I know exactly why he died, and why he got Covid. His immune system was damaged because he had multiple myeloma. I didn't say anything about him not getting vaccinated.

There are so many on the internet, but I need to get into one to decide. I want to be able to get up if the power goes off. I could probably get up, but at what cost to my body?

What business are Texas based? I have not looked into that.

    2. Heh....I bought my husband a power lift recliner (no awful headrest)when we lived in our old house with no generator. The power went out while he was reclined. A kid quipped, "Pity we don't have a hydraulic jack." In any case, I think most of the power lifts have battery packs included. (The cord, if not hidden by a wall/under the chair can be a tripping danger, by the way.)
Off the top of my head, some companies to boycott are:
Michael's, Dr. Pepper, Frito Lay, Dell, J.C. Penny, 7-11, Dell, Whole Foods, Kimberly-Clarke, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Sysco foods.

    3. All those places sell recliners? Frito Lay? The chair will be in a corner. I am very picky about cord placement as trip hazards!

    4. Pardon the crappy transition. The companies I listed don't sell recliners, but are based in Texas, and I am boycotting Texas based companies due to their draconian abortion ruling.

oh, okay. I will never boycott SAS. I love them.

    1. And, how many have been peed on? I found a perfect one at a perfect price, but it was clear the man was incontinent. If not, the chair was stored in a damp area in a house that had the electricity cut off for a year. My allergies cannot handle that.

Things incontinent elderly people leave behind need to go to the trash. And, once I hear there is an animal in the house or a smoker, I do not want any furniture from that house.

  9. I really admired Colin Powell too. Sad to hear he had passed away. This has been quite a year for many. I still struggle with sadness and think of my son every day. I try to be like him and find interest and good things about every person I run across but some people make that very hard! Maybe they have had bad things happen to them too. Who knows. We just got two new tires and had them rotate with our other two good tires. We get two at a time so we never have to pay for 4 up front. It has worked good for us for years. It is turning cool here in Northern Nevada. Highs in the mid 40's to mid 50's. I am wondering if our winter will be a hum dinger. We are due for lots of snow. Usually then temps don't drop like this for 1-2 more months. Nights are really cold. Take care.

    1. Crystal,
Buying two at a time seems like a good ploy. Tommy says he has heard of buying two and rotating. I have not. There are people who are really hard to like. Right now, the temps are about normal but a few weeks ago, we were above normal. Nights are in 50s here. Not too bad at all.

  10. If there is a medical
equipment supply store near you just go in and see the chairs theyhave. I've seen plenty on display that have narrow arms. The brand name I'm not sure about. Maybe it's Pride.

    1. Joyful,
That is good to know. I have been in several medical supply stores and have seen nothing like this. I will keep on calling until I find one. Thanks a lot.

  11. I just spent weeks shopping for a recliner. I probably should have just bought the one my friend bought on Amazon. I wanted a smaller size, low back, leather one so I searched and searched. The one I bought suits John well but I find it uncomfortable. I did not opt for the lift feature.

Since my purchase I have seen lovely ones on Craig's list or other of our local online sales groups. I am sorry I spent so much on a dumb chair.

    1. Janet,
One chair I found had been owned and used by a man who had practically lived in it for several years. Then, it sat in the home with no electricity on for years after the man died. I figured it would stink from urine, pets, or just mildew from being in that house. I just could not do it...lol.

I am glad it suits your husband. What brand?
