December Plans

In order to stave off stagnation and dementia, I have decided to have a new plan for every day of December. I especially want Tommy involved since he mostly sits. I can and do find things to do.

Dec 1

Tomorrow, I will finish the door wreath and we will put up the red curtain lights I bought. This was not something I planned, but I saw red ones and flipped for them. Tommy will have to get out his 50 ft extension cord. Together, we will get it installed on the front of his ramp. It may be gaudy or look strange, but we are doing it. We will put out the outdoor poinsettia that I bought for $5 at the yard sale.

Dec 2

We will get the wreath done and hung. I bought a greenery wreath and am busy putting big red balls and poinsettias and such on it. The wreath I bought last year looks so blah that it is unclear what it is from the road. It does not have greenery. Or reddery!

Okay, we have something to do for the next three days. The heater/ac fan made a horrendous racket two weeks ago. Then, it made a little noise. When we drove to Cullman, the noise was so awful that we could not talk.  Finally, when we turned off the motor at a fast food joint, it did not make a sound when we started the car. So, no air at all, no heat or ac. It has been very inconvenient. The worst part is cracking the windows a bit when we are suffocating. I am not so sure what we can get done for Christmas projects.Tommy has a doctor appointment for a toenail that is hanging. It hurts me to look at it. That is our project one day.

However, we have a few things to do: put up the 3 ft. tree and decorate, finish spraying the mum, making a Gingerbread house.  I bought it just for him. I try to get Thomas involved because he really does enjoy these things. We don't have a Advent calendar. I would like one that has little doors and is wooden. I imagine I will just go in and open a cabinet door, eat whatever I see, and call it good.

Christmas music will be played every night. He enjoys the songs, too. I may read him some Christmas stories and poems.

We want to go to a light show, the kind where people stay in the car and drive through. I do have other ideas. I want to make it a wonderful Christmas for him.

Right now, I am getting rubber gloves and the carcass of a turkey, a hen, and a turkey breast. He is going to remove the meat. The house smells delicious.

What are your plans? Do you have the decorating finished?

  1. I have the best picture in my head of you putting post it notes numbered 1-24, then a big 25 on your food cupboard as a make your own advent.

I laughed so hard at your comment. I was hoping someone would think it was funny. Above the counter, he has 26 doors, so it would work.

  2. I like the idea of having a new plan for every day of the month. If I did that I would get a lot done. Bailey is slowing decorating a little each evening. I am cleaning and making room by putting things away like my Instant Pot off the counter. I will have to pull it out to use but that is OK.

I am not sure I will get a lot done. I just want us both to be involved so we will not stagnate! I am supposed to have someone come and help us to get the things picked up. Who knows if she will come. Decorating slowly like Bailey is doing gets it done.

  3. Your plan sounds good and it's nice to have activities planned so you can enjoy the season and get things done. I think Tommy will also enjoy. I have my Christmas decorations done. I finished early this yearand I'm happy all get to enjoy the cheery lights for a month.

    1. Joyful,
It is nice to get it all done. I usually did the majority of decorating on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I am slower getting started and have so much less to do. I am glad you can enjoy it all for a full month.

  4. I have started my December activities list also. The season can get away from you so quickly if you don't think about all you want to do and how many days you have to do it.

    1. It takes me more time for me to do things and then I am too tired to go to the next thing. So, I want it done so I can enjoy it. So, the list since I cannot remember what I want to do when I am tired.

  5. Good plans. We played Christmas music while decorating inside last Friday. DH found a channel on the tv streaming that was playing Christmas music along with a crackling fire for the video.

  6. I am not getting a lot done because stuff keeps breaking around here. One of our cars was in a fender-bender and can't be fixed until mid-Jan because of the whole car chip thing. The door fell off one of my wall ovens and can't be fixed, so I need 2 new ones. The microwave fan starts blowing whenever we open the door so we need a new one. Our other car needs a maintenance check and oil change and I can't get on the dealer schedule until you guessed it January.
    Good lord, what's next?
I am not in the mood to hang lights and decorate trees, that's for dang sure.

    1. Sue,
Wow, When it rains it pours at your house! I cannot get an appointment for Tommy's toenail that got ripped loose until Jan 15. That was an emergency appointment! Well, since nothing else will happen to fix things at your place, maybe decorating is the best distraction. Maybe? Sorry about all that is going on. Not good.

  7. Oh, and our accountant emailed us and said our withholding was screwy this year and we can expect to enjoy a big bill from the IRS and the state. Merry Christmas, y'all!! :^( :^(

  9. I laughed at the opening sentence. We don't have anything planned as entire family is in a holding pattern until we find out if Army grandson gets to come stateside for Christmas. I do have something listed daily but most of it is dealing with processing food as I have apples stored in the barn, cranberries in the frig and the gardens under cover need harvested.

Maybe the mystery will be solved soon so you can all set plans. Food plans do sound great.

  10. Our decorations were up 3 weeks ago...thanks to a friend who decorated for me while I was in the hospital. It's been so nice to be recovering at home among the decorations and lights.

How nice of that friend. I don't want to go in the hospital to get the place decorated, but I would do a lot...lol.
