Friday--Not Much

This day was a success, too. Things happened as planned. So, that is two our of five days that went as planned.

The food giveaway was skimpy, but that is okay--a jar of peanut butter, a jar of chicken, and 7 small packages of cheese chips. Both Tommy and I received one. Sometimes, there are four nice packages of meat. Other days, six bags of salad greens. LOL...no guarantees. It is okay.

We did not make the returns. I was just too tired. I have been tired every minute of Friday, even after a nap. However, I did go to Publix and get the pork loins that were two for $9.99. Both are in the oven with carrots, potatoes, Vidalia onions, and garlic. One bag is for us and the other is for the missionaries.  I was going to give it to them fresh from the oven. But, they have somewhere to be and must leave here at 11:30. So, their meal will be cooked and refrigerated tonight. I don't want these guys leaving it in the car and get sick from eating hot food left in the car.

In a bit, I need to bake a pan of brownies or a cake for them. I figure a 9x9 pan of brownie or same size iced cake will work. And, I will offer them a  banana to eat here or later. We have plenty of drinks of different sorts and bottled water.

I would feed them here, but there is no table to use and only one chair. So, there! I have been storing boxes for them to put items from the cabinets. Then, I can throw the boxes away!

Tommy took his ladder from the utility room and hosed it off this morning. I thought he wanted to bring it in here like it was. The dirt would have bothered me, but the spiders more.

I stopped reading The Salt Wars and started reading Hillbilly Elegy. Both are great reading but I may finish Elegy before I go back to Salt. Soon, I will need more books.

I am planning to attend at least one yard sale. Well, I drive by and see if I can get in the yard or is it not level. Does it look like all children's clothing? Is a dog running loose? Can we park safely? Is it too far to walk? I remember the day when I would pop out of the car, hurry around or stroll, walking down in ditches if that's what it took...lol. Now, it is an ordeal.

What are your plans for this weekend.

  3. Cheryl,
If I don't, I don't. It is not a biggie at this point. By the time they leave, it may be nap time. They need to be somewhere, so they may have to take it with them. Thanks. I hope your weekend is great.

  4. I just ask did the missionaries show up and do the task you needed? It is hard these days to schedule a plumber or electrician that are paid well just to show up and do the job. It is so frustrating. I can only imagine what you went through when you were in your own home trying to get the roof repaired. I have been lucky in most cases but I do hate having strangers in my home. I tend to stick with the companies I have used for years unless there is an emergency they can't get to. I will say that when I have a crew here for a big job I always bake a cake to give them when they are having their lunch, I always make sure I have cold water and iced tea for them. I even go out to give the trash guys a cold bottled water and sometimes a snack. They always appreciate it, and have been really good at helping me when I put tree branches, etc. at the curb.

I know that many days I have plans to get things done and I am just not able to do it. Many people don't understand that we just can't physically or mentally do things unless we are having a good day. When I have good days, I try to scramble and get everything done when I can. I don't do the garage sales and estate sales that I used to just because I don't have the energy.
The one thing I wanted to tell you is that recently I had car problems. I had to have the car towed in to get a new battery put in. Not a week later, I pulled the car into the garage because there were hail storms in the area. What I did not realize it that I had the car lights on as well as the bright garage lights. I left the car lights on when I came in the house. Drained that new battery completely down. It was like that for days. I sat back and thought what can I do for myself without making my son drop everything and come over or bother neighbors. The car was in the garage and I did not want the neighbors have to push it out. Did a little on line research and found there were gizmos that could solve the problem. Ordered on Amazon, NOCO gb340, got it, charged it and it worked like a charm. Now I will have this gadget in the car if I am out and about and the car has a dead battery. Best purchase I have made in a long time. I don't have to worry any more or depend on calling for help anymore. Might be something you and Tommy want to look at, or you could be a quicker draw than me and already have one. LOL

    1. Getting someone to do any kind of job was and mostly is a chore!
That is too bad about the battery. I have done similar, like the light in ceiling of the car being on all night and day. We have our eye on a similar gadget at Auto Zone. We just need to go and use our store credit. But, I will write down this one and if the other is not what we want, I will get this one. Thanks. We are going to get something to put air in the tires, too, since neither of us can get down that low. I can sit on a five gallon bucket, do it and Tommy can help me up! He cannot sit down that far or get up from a five-gallon bucket. We work it out...lol.

    2. This episode has me researching the tire issue as well. I have an air compressor at home but need something I can have in the car if I am out about. The last time I had a flat a nice man changed it in the Walmart parking lot for me. As we know, these days people are not willing to help. Let me know what you pick for the tire issue and I will let you know if I get one first.

    3. I will tell you what I get. I want one just to keep the tires inflated properly that I can use at home. I will let you know if it can be kept in the car and maybe used in accessory port.
