Okay, maybe I am being overly dramatic. I don't care! I am having a spell with asthma and feel rotten. Now, I can barely move.
We had gone to get my inhalers at Walgreen's and sat there forever. But, on the way home I remembered Monday was the day to get the pink bag with ads and coupons. So, we did that back in the neighborhood. I slid out of the car and took two steps to the bag, picked it up and turned and got in the car.
About thirty minutes later at home I decided to make a phone call. I did a cursory search of my body and the chair in which I was sitting.
NO PHONE!
Tommy went to the car and checked by my seat and under it. No phone. I was in a panic since I told him I knew it fell out of my pocket when I got out of the car to get the bag.
We went straight to Verizon. The guy was so nice and told me the phone was off anyway because I had not paid my bill. No, I was using it. So, who knows. We discussed what was happening, could happen, and the fact it could not be traced, that I would need a new phone.
My heart was racing with irregular heartbeats. I was gutted, angry, shaking inside, and sad. I could not even sit up straight. Tommy pulled out his wallet and told me to use his credit card. Since he was on the phone trying to figure out why his Tracfone did not work, he just let me do it.
I have the identical phone minus my contacts. Loss of contacts is a big deal!
My asthma is worse now. My heart is still not beating correctly. I still feel gutted.
Remember the camera that slipped out of my pocket? Same pants! I have had cell phones since 2003 and have never lost one. Since I have had the AT&T Rugby flip phone, I have never broken a phone. The only other flip phone I "broke," just lost part of its functions. But, I did not replace it until it was obsolete. I have owned cameras since I was ten-years-old and have never lost or broken a camera. The only camera and the only phone I have lost were in the pocket of these pants!
I have a gray pair and a black pair, identical design. I could add onto and lengthen the pockets, but the design won't allow that. The pockets are sewn down. I never noticed this when I bought them and Tommy says it does not show when I wear them. I like pockets inserted in the side seam. This pair has slant pocket openings.
This is a great financial blow since I will repay Tommy. It affects my confidence and sense of safety. Thankfully, I had food cooked so we could eat without any effort on my part. He heated the taco soup and zucchini.
Tomorrow or maybe tonight, I will call the police. I don't know why. Plus, I will put up a "lost phone" sign on the telephone pole nearest to where I lost the phone, plus other poles. And, I will offer a reward.
Have you even been so upset with a loss and how it happened?
That is very upsetting. Can you join any facebook groups for the local area where you lost it? If it's an older or inexpensive phone, people won't be so keen to keep it and the finder may make a post looking for the owner.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you could post asking if it has been seen
The phone is brand new and 5G, expensive. I will see if there is a group here.
DeleteI have had many times when I lost something only to find it later. I know it is strange but I do not have a cell phone. I am at the point where I may have to bend and get one. I am not looking forward to it but as we get older we may have an emergency and need to call someone. I intend to wear mine around my neck so I won't lose it and remember to charge it. There are now like little cell phone purses young girls carry. I would not use as a purse but hang it around my neck. Think back, could you have dropped it or left it at the pharmacy? Did you go anywhere else? Did you check the driveway and under the car? Did you check the pharmacy it you went inside? You could have dropped it anywhere you had been. Did you check the house? I have often thought I left the house with something, got home, there is was on the kitchen table. My most recent was losing my glasses. I checked everywhere, I new I had them when I left the house because I need them to drive. I must have had them when I drove home. I dumped me purse, I searched the car and the trunk because I was in there unloading groceries, No where to be seen. Checked the drive and the yard. Still no glasses. Low and behold I found them a couple of days later in the front yard. The sun hit the lenses as I was returning the front door. I had been using an old pair to get by until I could get new. I was so happy and relieved. I hope it will turn up in the next day and maybe you can return the new one. I always wait a couple of days in case I can 't find what was lost. Do you and Tommy have a landline in the house? Many people tell me, get a cell and cancel the landline. They have never had a very sick person in their care. I had that with both my husband and my mother. I can't tell you how many times I had to call 911. I don't want to worry where is my cell phone, is it charged? I just want to pick up the phone and dial 911 and get help.
ReplyDeleteI got in the car and used the phone while we waiting to pick up meds at window. Then, I got out to get the pink bag, got back in car and got out at home. I had not been anywhere in the house and had not changed clothes. So, dropping it was the only thing that could have happened. I did all the mental checks. It was easy.
DeleteI got a cellphone for only one reason--so I could get calls to sub anywhere. The phone paid for itself in two weeks.
Tommy has a landline.
I kept the cell because I could eventually not get out of the car to walk for help in case of an emergency.
Believe me I know, just when I lost my glasses, it did not make sense. I knew I had them when I drove back from the store. Sometimes I have the habit of hanging them in the front of my shirt when I am doing things. I must have done this bringing the groceries and dropped them off my shirt. I did not see them in the yard. Then a couple of days late there they were, they must have been covered by leaves. I was just happy! lol I am glad you have a landline in the house. It makes it so much easier to get help. I think in my mind that if is easier and quicker for them to locate you. I know it was the best thing when my husband had a pulmonary embolism.
DeleteI started CPR but it gave me help knowing they were on the way and kept me focused. You can just dial 911 they can still find you easily and come to check. I would rather they break down the door or bust a window. He did survive that, but had complications and I lost him (brain bleed from hitting the floor) a couple of months later When you have a heart attack or stroke you might not be able to get to the door.
Texas,
DeleteI can find my cell phone before I can find Tommy's phone! I called 911 and asked them if they could put a physical address with my cellphone number and they said they could.
It is too bad about your husband's said demise. It must have been hard.
sad demise
DeleteI knew they could find me from a cell, My husband had one. I was more worried about finding the cell phone in an emergency. The land line was always there at my fingertips. When things happened with my husband and then my Mom, I did not have to think about, it was just right there. I guess just a lifetime of habit. I did not have to think, just to react for help. I don't think I will ever let the land line go..
ReplyDeleteTexas,
DeleteMy cell phone is always in my pocket, no matter what room I am in or if I am outside. It is a habit. Often, I do not even turn it on all day. But, I know where it is.
I forgot to ask, did you have Tommy call your cell to see if you could hear it in the car or yard, I had to do that with my son often to locate his phone.
ReplyDeleteTexas,
DeleteThat is the first thing I always do when I cannot locate it.
Sorry I just wanted to check, I get so upset sometimes I don't realize what I should have done until later. You are lucky that you are on top of things and when you need Tommy is there to offer help and advice, I hope you feel better tomorrow and that the asthma medication helps!
DeleteTexas,
DeleteThanks.
I hope you find your phone, before getting a new one. My new cell phone is shiny black. It easily blends into so many backgrounds. I liked my little cheap trac phone flip phone better, but it was only good up to 3 g,so I had to replace it recently and ended up with a bigger, but flatter shiny black phone. When I used to do a lot of gardening I would always take my little flip phone with me in case I fell or something. It was small enough so that I could easily put it in my bra where it wouldn't fall out without me noticing,(however, I would often accidentally fling it across the room and onto the floor as soon as I got inside and took off my bra and changed clothes.) It had some duct tape where I cracked a hinge on it doing that. I bet your phone fell out when you got out of the car, but I would triple check inside the car under, between the seats and even on the floor in the back. Those are the type of places where the phone easily blends in.
ReplyDeleteI hope your asthma medicine works fast and you start feeling better
very soon. May you find your phone soon, too.
Take care.
susie,
DeleteI have a new phone. We both checked. That is funny about the phone flinging. Tommy has a 4G Tracphone. He does not have to get a 5G.
This one is black and really large and heavy. It pulls on my pockets. They get so out of shape.
Thanks. I hate inhalers. But, they are so necessary.
I have lost my phone a couple of times. I used the where is my phone feature with Google. I have the number linked to my Google account. It even found it when it was off one time. I dropped it in a store and it showed the address it was at. I am sorry this happened to you.
ReplyDeleteAmy,
DeleteSince it is a flip phone, there is no way to find it, according to the guy in the phone store. That would be great.
Sorry me again, I once threw away library book with my newspaper, Could it have fallen in the pink bag of sale papers?
ReplyDeleteThe pink plastic bag is about five inches wide and fourteen inches long. Nothing falls in there as it has to be stuffed in, even a little cell. Besides, it would be so heavy and I had all the ads out when I looked for the phone.
DeleteGet rid of those pants. Yep husband went four wheeling..his lost his wallet with a pair like that. We got it back 3 months later nothing left. Not really thinking it was the pants he rototilled the garden last year with them. We searched for hours and finally found his favorite pocket knife. The pants went in the trash.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry this happened to you!
Vickie,
DeleteBad Pants! I don't know if I have ever had pants with this type pocket. If I had seen the stitching, I would have not gotten them as I don't like that look on myself. Oh, I will be shopping for new ones, so cannot throw away these, I would if I could. Your story makes me feel vindicated, like I am not just losing things all the time. We have to search all the time for things that fall from my pocket in these pants...lipstick, keys.
You probably know this already, but I thought I would just mention that some of the asthma inhalers are more likely than others to cause nervousness and racing heart feelings. I was just prescribed two more different ones to add to the ones I already take for when my asthma gets really bad. I told my doctor I just really want to avoid taking prednisone which makes me not be able to sleep, get outrageously emotional and often depressed, and then gives me thrush in my mouth. Awful stuff, but at least I could breathe after I took it. Take care. I hope the rest of your week is smooth sailing.
ReplyDeletesusie,
DeleteNO, I did not know that. I will check with the doctor in the morning. I was just as upset when my camera fell from my pocket, so I wonder since I was not using an inhaler then. Losing any possession, especially a possession with my life on it really bothers me. Thanks for telling me.
Yes, lots of times. After the pique I try to look at my rage to discover what this is really all about, it isn't just the lost item; it is touching on something else usually more deep.
ReplyDeleteI was glad to see you got many comments of support today.
Urspo,
DeleteThanks. I think it was the stupid pants!
Save the pants by sewing the pockets closed on both pairs!
ReplyDeleteAlice, not doing that. I just won't put anything in the pockets.
DeleteI continue to keep a physical calendar and address book because I know loosing a cell phone is a possibility. I once thought that I had lost my phone but finally discovered that when my purse fell off the back seat of the car it had slid out and was standing up against the black car carpeting. In that position it was absolutely invisible!
ReplyDeleteI usually wear legging type pants. The have NO POCKETS. I need pockets so at home I always (almost always) wear an apron. I keep my clothing clean, can carry my phone, Chapstick & small screwdriver. I can even slip a can or two into the pocket if I am bringing caned goods in from the garage.
If you have lost your contacts here is my info Cell 619 291 6969 Home 619 588 5133.
In my area there is a group called "NEXTDOOR" that can be accessed on the computer or though a cell phone app. It is handy for lost pets or items, neighborhood announcements, local information on road work , free items being given away or finding a local handyman, gardener, babysitter, dog walker or plumber. You should check and see if it is active in your area.
Janet,
ReplyDeleteOnce I could not find my remote. I searched for hours. Finally, I found it slid between the mattress and bed frame. It was in a dark place and against the dark frame. I am still surprised I found it. I must get an apron since I have two pair of legging type pants or put in pockets...lol.
