Truth or Trend: Is Bamboo Sustainable?
Bamboo Destroying Deciduous Forests
I read somewhere that villagers who had forest gardens and those who had small plots to feed themselves were forced to give up their food sources. Foraging was eliminated. I cannot find that source.
When hardwood and softwood forests are gone, we will have more deserts. We need rainforests!
I refuse to buy bamboo.
bamboo is re-usable, unlike the plastic junk forks that fast food places give out. I've been using a set of bamboo utensils for three years to take in my lunch. It has it's place.

Like most things, bamboo and products made with bamboo are not the issue. It is proven to be a more sustainable material compared to many other wood or man-made material. What you are suggesting is what happens when humans exploit a resource. Cutting down food sources for profit- exploitation. Mowing down forests that are natural habitats for animals and a source food through foraging is exploitation. Deregulation of the bamboo industry, unsafe harvest practices, and on and on for enhanced profit is the problem. I think there can be solutions that make it eco positive but there needs to be will. Sorry little rant on my part but great topic to put out there for discussion.
ReplyDeleteSAM,
