Crickets

Wednesday night, I finally went to sleep about 7 am on Thursday. So, a nap was in order. However, it seems nothing makes me feel better. The sinus problem is not so bothersome, just making me feel tired all over. So, nothing much done.

We did go to the store to get hot dogs for my Sonic meal--chili cheese dog. It won't be a footlong but will satisfy my wanting.

This past week, the dishwasher has been empty so I can put dirty dishes in as we go. Now, I can run it tonight. I much prefer dealing with dirty dishes this way. So, now I never have to wait on Tommy to help since it is emptied slowly and filled slowly.

For the past year, I have been finding tiny crickets, about a quarter of an inch long, maybe smaller. I find them one at a time on the front of the sink or in the sink or on sink in bathroom. The strange thing is I have never heard or seen an adult cricket. I suppose the tiny ones are crickets. In all my life, I have never seen a cricket so tiny. I have rarely seen adult crickets. One cricket and I am all over the situation. I certainly don't want them eating fabrics. The chirping of an adult cricket drives me nuts!

There is a huge knot in my left calf. I had Tommy feel both calves and he says the left is very hot. Just great. I don't need a blood clot complicating my life. I took another baby aspirin.

Looking through my purse or some stack of odds and ends, I found a coupon. It is for Daisy Sour Cream and has a date of 12-30-22.  Great! I like long dates like that.

Thinking about my upcoming birthday, I realize how close to being 80 I am. Yikes. How did this happen? I remember being utterly shocked on the morning I turned 70. Every October since 1992, I have been ill, allergy-induced, I suppose. Well, last year, I started becoming ill a month earlier in September. So, I was ill the week of my birthday. Not fun! It appears I am going to be puny even earlier this year. I need to call for a telephone call with my allergist.

Finally, I got the glass from the floor. I was going to take the lid and ring off, I didn't. I told Tommy that it was not worth it, being ill and slipping and cutting myself for one ring and lid. So, it is gone. I managed to pick up the shards and beans without cutting myself. He pulled off long pieces of clear packing tape while I taped the carpet and then pulled up the tape, collecting many small shards.

He brought me the stick vac. I used that for longer than I really thought I needed to vacuum. But, I am satisfied that all the broken glass particles are gone. Whew! I will still be wearing shoes when I step there. It is right in front of the freezer door, so I will need to be there often.

I had three things on my list. The other two might get done tonight, not sure. But, it feels good to accomplish one thing that had to be done. It makes me happy...lol. Maybe I will get ambitious and do the other two chores with Tommy's help. He will use his walker to move items to the bedroom where I keep some food.

Since it rained, Tommy did not have to water. Thunder rumbled all about today. Elsewhere, there was flooding, rain, and storms.

Do you ever get crickets? I have had about 6 crickets in my house in 20 years. Here, although I never have adults, I get these babies. Do you get the baby crickets?

  1. I never see or her crickets or frogs anymore. We also had a lizard called a horned frog when I was a kid. They are endangered now I believe and are being bred to make sure they don't vanish from the face of the earth. Makes me kind of sad. As a child we would sleep with the windows open and fall asleep listening to their conversations. It was always a fun thing to do with my son, catching frogs, tadpoles and lizards. We would often go to a local park that had a little creek. We would just wade ankle deep and look at all the creatures. He really liked the tadpoles. As they grew, growing their little feet on the way to becoming a frog. So many simple things out there in the world for kids to learn from and experience but we are destroying so much of it. The only thing we have now are lizards, they don't bother me unless one gets in the house. I am not afraid of them but they are so fast I can't catch them. I worry because I think they might go thirsty or hungry caught in the house. The dogs always go nuts because they want to catch them but can't LOL.
    Take care, talk again soon.

    1. Texas,
I worry that kids just don't look up from their screens long enough to see things. Daddy caught a lizard once and brought it in and fed it bugs. Every day after that, the lizard was waiting on the porch for Daddy to bring it in. Little bugs from a light would go directly to the lizard. I suppose if we had a tv, we would not have all stood around and watched the lizard...lol.

They won't go thirsty or hungry if they are caught in the house. Stay cool.

  2. You really need to keep a close eye on your leg. That could be quite dangerous. Take care.

  3. I agree, with Cheryl, if it gets really painful, swollen, red and stays hot you could have a really serious problem. I went thru that when my Husband had cancer. He had many during treatment. I finally got him to listen and go in and get it checked. The end began with a blood clot in his lungs, passed out and hit the kitchen floor. They cleared up the clot but then he had a brain bleed from hitting the kitchen floor. Then we had the brain surgery for the bleed. Things just went downhill after that, He passed about 10 weeks later. A possible blood clot should never be ignored. My husband had them in his arms not legs. It one shoots of to the lungs or brain, you most likely will lose your life,

  4. For goodness sakes, go to prompt care, urgent care or an ER and get your leg checked out. Worrying is not a medical treatment.

  5. Linda - if your whole leg is swollen, is that painful and if you even think it could possibly be a blood clot, PLEASE get in to be seen ASAP. I am sure you know how serious they are if you've had them before. My hubby has had many blood clots and we learned the hard way to just bite the bullet & go get checked even when he didn't want to - it saved his life a couple times over!! I hope & pray you don't have a blood clot and that you recover quickly. Please take care!! ❤

  7. I hope you will get that leg checked out soon, that sounds scary. Did you allergies get worse after moving into Tommy's home? Maybe there is something there causing them to act up more than usual. Take care!

    1. One,
I suppose living with the residue of 40 years smoking in here, plus 16 years of not being vacuumed has a lot to do with it. That is why the cleaner gave me hope. I cannot see the baseboards for the half inch of dust.

    1. meetsy,
I have seen baby cockroaches. But, I will give this some thought. I do need to change the roach bait. I will trap one of the "crickets" and give it a better look and look it up. Thanks.

  9. Just now we have an ENORMOUS dragonfly on our master bedroom screen. I haven't see one around here in years. It is just beautiful!

I am going to add my voice to the throng and beg you to get your leg seen. Being nearly 80 may suck, but it sure beats the only alternative. Don't go for the alternative, please!

    1. Sue,
Tommy and I saw one flying near the car as we drove along two days ago. We were not sure where it came from. I have not seen a dragonfly in several years. It was not near our house.

      I hear you.
