Monday Thoughts

Life is easy when I don't have to cook. Tommy has eaten well for lunch and dinner. Since I have so many vegetables cooked or just cut for him, he uses a wrap for lunch, filled with goodness. For dinner, his plate was full of cooked meat and vegetables plus a salad.

The two cups of chicken broth is in the freezer. Amazingly, there was little fat to skim. This tasty broth will be good in something later this year.

We awoke early with the alarm since we both had a doctor's appointment with my doctor. This is the last of this doctor. I came home, took a nap, and didn't do much. Tommy offered to take me to some of the places I have said I wanted to go. No, I just wanted a nap. We ate dinner and watched to first two Tarzan movies with Johnny Weismuller and Maureen O'Sullivan.

Before we left, I had washed my hair and made a chicken sandwich to eat on the way. Tommy had to fast for a blood test. But, then he had to get a sandwich on the way home. We are cutting back on fast food. It may never disappear.

A gentle rain for a few minutes eliminated Tommy's having to water once again. The flowers are also looking a little more lively since the sun is not so intense and temps are several degrees lower. Of course, when the sun comes out and the temps rise, the flowers don't look so perky, but still beautiful.

Oh, I did empty the dishwasher so it can be loaded again. It works best for me to spend two days putting things on the counter for him to put away, rather than waiting a week for the two of us to be in the mood at the same time. Since I put the dishes above the dishwasher, right in front of the microwave where he heats food and coffee, he is motivated to put them away.

As I was emptying the beans into the Ball jars, I made a mistake. Lima beans were emptied into a partially filled jar of navy beans. I am not so sure I want to cook them together, so I need to sort them into jars of their own kind. Inattention is costing me time!

There was one huge blemish to the day, very depressing, but it is something ongoing that I cannot discuss. The disappointment did not define the day. Other than that, Monday was serene, okay, maybe boring. But, it was not unpleasant. There was no longing for something else to happen.

Is a low-key day, even boring, a problem for you? Really, is a big win necessary for a day to be satisfying?

What makes a good day for you? How did today turn out for you?

Did you have any wins today, large or small? Any disappointments?

  1. I came to see if you had posted about 45 minutes ago. You had not, so I got up and cleaned out the fridge for trash day. Washed dishes from today and the bowls from the fridge. Took the trash out to the curb. So, thank you for helping me get my backside in gear.

I like a boring, quiet day. Just wish I could get more productive with my time. The water is draning slow in the kitchen sink. I put baking soda, vinegar and boiling water down it a couple of days. I think I will have to get down there and clean the pea trap. I hate that job but it must be done every great once in a while.

I am trying to decide what protein to take out of the freezer for the next couple of days. Either will cook a small roast beef or pork roast. I also got some cherries the other day for 1.99lb, corn on the cob for 19c an ear. May go set up a place at the kitchen table to pit those cherries for a cobbler. Already on my feet too long with the fridge and dishes.

Glad you both had a good day. Have you ever found out about your cleaner? Did you find a battery pack for your chairs yet?

    1. Texas,
I am glad I could help out by procrastinating...lol.

The p-trap is something I have never cleaned. How do you get it out? Mine was glued in place. Have you tried another pot of water? There are long, bendy things, not the really long snake, that can help for just that short distance. But, I have never owned or used one. It is not over 3 feet long. Maybe another dose of vinegar and water might be needed, too.

Thankfully, we have lots of protein in the refrigerator and have eaten those salads along with vegetables I cooked. That is a great price for cherries and corn. I have been thinking about getting corn and coleslaw mix. Maybe.

I just had to put thoughts of the cleaner and battery pack on hold. Maybe tomorrow I will work on the chair problem tomorrow.

  2. I always have a low key life - I like that. No drama. I have a good day each one I get to wake. I am given another opportunity to get life right.
The beans being mixed wouldn't bother me at all. I often mix beans.
Glad you had a good day.

  3. Boiling water or baking soda and vinegar helps keep traps (P or T) from clogging. If you have a garbage disposal, you might not be running it long enough

    1. Boiling water and a good effort with a plunger (one dedicated to the sink only, not shared with toilet duty) ought to take care of things.

    2. Sue,
It always worked for me, but Tommy's stopped up sink was clogged way out in the yard.

  4. I think low key days are my favorite. Some days you get them, some not. Corn on the cob for .19 each is a great price.

Me too. I have not seen that price in years.

    2. I pay 80 cents/cob at the only local farm stand that sells it. But all of their produce seems pricy to me. I think I need to look for a new stand.

    3. Sue,
I have not bought corn at the farmer's market, but 80 cents does seem like a lot.

  5. Linda, I am sorry to hear of your depressing blemish to your day, hope you can share with us soon so we can help support you however you need. Sending good vibes your way!

I prefer low-key days!! Much better than drama or stress filled days! No big wins are required for me to consider it a good day, although those do help ;)

Any day I wake up and find myself, my family & friends all in good health is a good day! Today was just another Monday but it wasn't a stressful one nor was it a big win day. All I did was work all day & then we did a Costco run last night where I suppose a small win was that we spent much less than we normally do, mostly because I finally remembered to use a gift card with large store credit on it.

The hubby started his highly anticipated new job today and school starts in 9 days for our granddaughter (hallelujah - I am SO over this long drawn out summer break LOL) so back to school shopping is on my radar for today & I love to shop so looking like another good day!!

Hope you & Tommy have a good day too :)

    1. Bri,
Low-key days are less tiring as I don't have the energy for drama! So far, Tuesday is low-key, too.

I really hate it when I go into a store intending to use a store card and buy things with that in mind. THEN, it all rung up, on my cc and then remember I have store credit. I am so exhausted and the customer service line is long. Sooo, I leave the store only to do the same thing next time.

Once, I had four cards I used in one day. There was only a bit left on one card, so I spent that the next time. Finally!
Some days and for some things I love to shop. I suppose this has been a really long break. Have fun shopping.

Same here, my incessant sneezing has the same effect! I understand.

    2. I like low-key days, but I like highly productive days, too. Each have their place. Today was moderately productive. Not as many tasks done as I would like, but not a total wash.

This endless hot weather spell in the Northeast has really sapped my energy. Yes, we have AC (and I am surely grateful), but extended AC dries me out and makes me logy. I could never move to a climate like Florida, where folks live in constant AC almost year round. There's just not enough fresh, oxygenated dry air to be had. It would be the death of me!

    3. Sue,
Low key can be productive. Major fails don't set well...lol. Not much accomplished today!

I don't think I have ever had to much ac! I have had too much heat and humidity! Fresh air is highly over-rated when you have allergies.

  7. I had a good day today. A contest that I had entered contacted me announcing that I was a winner of some lotion and perfume! I enter some at night while watching tv, never know when or what you'll win.
Corn here is around 68 cents an ear. I forgot to stock up on it when the price was around 25 cents an ear.

Congratulations! Winning is always nice. I have not bought corn in six weks, so not sure what it is.

  8. Monday was a very busy day for me. I had to run 3 errands for work (bank, Hallmark, photo pickup), worked on-campus, then ran 7 more errands (dropped off donations, CVS, chiropractor followed by a quick 10 min chair massage, picked up a gift for my best friend & got gas).

It's the week before my cycle (PMDD), so I'm pretty exhausted. I made it through the work day though, looked over our budget, studied for an upcoming certification exam & am catching up on emails/texts.

I WFH tomorrow & Thursday, then I'm going out of town for 3 nights.

*phew* At least I have no plans for the next several weekends. I actually prefer low-key days.

You really got lots done on Monday. When I was young, I could go hard and I remember pmdd, too. Menopause fixed that...lol. Yes, low key is never a problem. Have fun out of town.
