FIRED!

My friend lost her job. Yes, she did, all for a child deliberately shoving her down. I forgot to say that the child ran to one side of her and chanted--"that's what you get! That's what you get!"

Wednesday morning, she received a voice mail or text, forget which, saying to just stay home today because of her injuries.  So, this is how she fires people all the time. Then, she told her that safety was her primary goal at her daycare. This is how she fired the last woman who lost her job this week after being out ill. She also told her just to stay home one more day to be sure she was well.

The daycare owner told her she would put her on-call all this week. She tells all people she fires this, too, before firing.

The kicker is my friend was due to receive a $3K bonus in October! She will never get it now. She really needed that money. There were witnesses and video, but it will all disappear, probably has by now.

As we drove by her house at 9 am this morning going to Cullman, her car was home when she should have been at work. I told Tommy I was worried and would call about 10 am when I knew she was up. Well, that was stupid. So, if she had fallen or was dying from a concussion, it might be too late. I called and she relayed the info to me. She will go to Walmart to try and work there.

We drove to Cullman to sign papers and use a cc. That done, we went to Publix for my milk. We would rather stop there than after we had driven back to Publix here. I went to another store to get the Double Luck green beans. I counted out 10 as I felt for dents. I managed to get 11 cans...lol. Eggs were expensive $6.99 for 18 eggs (39 cents/egg). At the second store I paid $4.89 for a dozen eggs (41 cents/egg. I was at the second store and was not driving back for 2 cent/egg saving, 24 cent/carton.

At the PO I gave Tommy money to pay for my PO box. As it turns out, I paid it online. I do not remember that. Hopefully, I have not signed up for autopay.

Dinner tonight: Tommy had the other hamburger from last night, peas, and mashed potatoes. I had cheeseburger, whole tomato, whole can of green beans. Neither of us had bun.

Today, it was 75 at noon and really hot in the car with humidity of 33%. I love that humidity. Outdoors, the weather was perfect, not hot at all. The skies from the time we left until we came home was deep blue sky for miles, all the way to Cullman and back.

Gas in Cullman was $2.98/gal. So, I guess we can use the gas savings to buy eggs.

Are prices for things like eggs and gas coming down at your town? I hope everyone is safe from Ian.

  1. You friend was injured on the job and I would think there is a workers comp insurance policy in place. Your friend should be examining the laws in your state and filing appropriate claims.

  2. She also needs to file a claim for discrmination for age! These places hire older people because they are knowledgeable and reliable. They pay them less than others because they think one will find outl. It they are hurt on the job, if the employer has done something against the law, they fire them, thinking they are too old and don't know the rules. They get away with this all the time because no one reports it. If she does not stand up for herself many others will suffer the same abuse!!

    1. Texas,
She seems intent on being a doormat. It is called learn helplessness. I am trying to convince her.

    1. Belinda,
      Thanks.
I will buy more every week. The can I ate last night seemed extra tasty after I drained them and soaked in water.

  4. I know you said this has been their practice as to firing people - but she should not just assume. She should stay home for a day or so with her injuries. She has a lawsuit on her hands - at least compensation.
I hope it all wors out well for her.

    1. Cheryl,
Well, she has to stay home since they told her to--no choice. Well, I read the handwriting on the wall before she told me she had no job. She, so far, is refusing to even consider doing anything.

  5. For the last two days, several gas stations in town have gone back up $0.20 or more and this morning I noticed several more had as well. It's already 0.20 or 0.30 more than any other town in a 75 mile radius, so not sure what is going on.

    1. Alice,
Thanks. We will watch for that. Hopefully, the prices will start to come down. I lived in a town that had distributors and our gas was higher than any town in any direction. We were always puzzled.

  6. why doesn't your friend lodge a complaint with the labor bureau? This sounds like unfair treatment -- and it's a pattern that should be looked into. As well, I would have her file a police report as she was injured by an action of another person (even if ridiculously young and rambunctious). Might as well make some trouble... and, heck, no reason to stay silent... if it's wrong, it's wrong. There are laws there to protect us.

Her words--I don't want to start trouble. I told her the kid started it. I kept asking her what she did wrong. Her words--I have never sued anyone.
A plumber was letting water run, said he repaired it before and charged her, it kept running, said he would get a $300 part and be right over, did not for weeks, she was afraid to get someone else because he would sue her and make her pay for the part. whew
I tried a little logic for many days, finally someone else fixed it and she has heard nothing from the first guy.
She would rather pay twice as much and be unjustly treated, cheated than put her foot down.

  7. It is so frustrating when a friend won't take good advice and do the right things that will help them most. It makes it extremely difficult to care for them.

I have to step back in these situations because the aggravation level gets too high for me. I am a person who thinks nothing of rocking the boat, and I can't comprehend the logic of someone who willingly suffers so they don't "cause trouble." Makes my blood pressure shoot up at least 20 points!

    1. Sue,
She makes poor decisions about many things, in my opinion. I have gotten her to see the light about a few things.

This is not just suffering, which she has the right to do. She is putting her life in danger. And, the world needs to be alerted to this little monster who hurts other children, also.
