Free Fruits and Vegetables and a Freezer

Okay, no sleep at all on Wednesday night--so what is new? When I say "no sleep," I mean not a wink.

We were up and out the door in less than 30 minutes, headed to my town to get the mail. Since I did not have time to take my pill and wait an hour, I took milk and cereal with me. Tommy stopped and got two sausage biscuits and a senior coffee. In a bit, I ate my cereal and then later the biscuit. It is 9 pm, and it will eat the banana I carried all day before I go to bed.

I was going to make chicken sandwiches, but after no sleep, and getting bathed and dressed, i was out of time. It is just as well since we were in a hurry.

After we arrived and got the mail, we went to the bank to pick up something, and then I checked on milk at Publix. No, they do not have 2 percent in a2 milk. We did nothing else even though I had things to do.

We went to a food giveaway and got all fruits and vegetables and a gallon of milk. We came home, put it inside and left the house around 12 to go to another. The first drive-through took about ten minutes and the other a little longer. The second was fruits and vegetables and two gallons of milk. There were even lemons!

It almost killed both of us to get it in. Tommy got himself an apple and peanut butter sandwich. I ate nothing. When I am exhausted, sometimes I cannot eat.

At 1 pm, I went to bed. I told Tommy to wake me at 6:30. When he called me, I came into the living room. It was only 5:30. It was a dream that he came to get me up. RATS! So, I fell asleep and he called me again. I thought it was a dream and stayed asleep. Finally, he came back and called me again. I said, "Are you there or is this a dream?" He was there.

Dinner was salad with a whole bell pepper and a whole tomato diced over Romaine. All this we got today. I cut chicken to go on the salad, too. I am quite sure it was 50 cents worth of tenders. And, he used the mustmayo that was reduced for dressing.

We gave more than half the food to the people next door and two gallons of the milk. It is a real shame I have to pay $4.49 for a half-gallon of milk!

Today, I ordered a freezer for $599--16 cu. ft. Since I ordered it in my town, I wonder how much it will cost to deliver it to me. SO, YAY! The thing is--I am continuing my search. They have no idea how long, how many months it will be before they get one. Thankfully, I still have this much left from the original $1200.

So, it was a hard and good day.

Does anyone go to the food giveaways?

  1. That is great that you got fresh produce. I actually went to a milk giveaway last night. One of the local churches and the salvation army partnered to give away over 1500 gallons of milk. They gave us 4. This was 2% Borden white milk with use by date not until 6\17. They said they are planning o do this every Wednesday for the time being and as long as the milk is available each week.

    1. Rachel,
That is great. Mine was Borden's 2%, also. And, the use by date was same. The mother and daughter next door were very happy with the milk when Tommy took it over as well as all the vegetables and fruits. this is so much better than the cans of dented food. Thanks for the reply.

  2. What are your comments doing waaaaaaay down here? Or is it my computer? Anyway is the milk price for organic milk? I pay less than that for 1/2 gal organic. Or is your price for a gallon?

    1. Ann,
I have no idea! If I could figure it out, I would try to fix it...sigh. My milk, a2milk, is $4.49/half gallon. No, it is not organic. It has milk from cows who only have ONLY A2 proteins. I do not have gastric distress when I drink this milk.

  3. 2 things to think about-if you are up all night why not bee productive somewhat, like figuring out Blogger and how to navigate it so folks don't have to scroll 2 miles to get to them (lol)and also why do you take things like milk you can't drink when it's offered at these food giveaways. Can you just say "no thanks" to that and let them give it to someone who can drink it? I am sure there are plenty of parents with kids out of school right now who could use it.

    1. slugmama,
I would be up and productive if Tommy would not be awakened by my rattling pots and pans in the sink. I would not even ask him to put up with that. He sleeps in the living room in same end of the house as the kitchen and there are no doors.

It hurts to sit in the bed using my laptop. There is no headboard since he took down the bedframe the first day I was here. I can read, but that is all. And, cannot do that for long. Yes, I could be productive.

At my house, I was always up doing something in the middle of the night. I have to go outdoors, down driveway, around his car and back up the driveway and through carport to get to the utility room to wash clothes.

Other people's ideas are all good, but not possible or practical. Thanks!

When milk is in a box and put in the backend of the Rogue, we do not see it until we are far away. The people do not want anyone out of cars or even talking to them. Tommy can drink some of it. We gave it to a man who was out of work, only three hours in one week. He does have a child at home. So, I guess I won't worry about that. Plus, he mows Tommy's yard, uses weedeater on it, picks up limbs, and repaired a few things for him. Thanks.

  4. No, we don’t participate in food giveaways but some of my grandchildren have been getting school lunches and breakfasts and they are very much appreciated by their mom.
My bachelor brother went to at least 1 food giveaway while he couldn’t work during the shut down and got SIX heads of cabbage - he cooks but I wonder what he did with so much cabbage :)

    1. Rhonda,
Six cabbages will not give many calories for living! Maybe it filled out other things he had to cook. Thanks.

  5. we don't have any give aways around here unless you count what the Amish neighbor sends over because it's not enough to feed her family and she can't mix it with something. I've gotten avocados that way.

I can't get up and do anything when laying awake all night either. Hubby sleeps in the recliner and the house is an open floor plan for the "public" rooms. Besides the dogs would start their morning routine of out and in and through them off schedule also. I read a lot and plot out my to do lists on a clip board with notebook paper.

    1. Chef,
Tommy sleeps in his recliner, too. I understand! But, I do not have animals in the mix. I fold my clothes, sort through clothes to be washed or whatever. That is about it. Sitting on the bed hurts my back and my feel have to hang off, so they swell. I can lie and read a bit. I need a chair and ottoman for my room.
