Okay, it is settled. Special K red Berries is great, delicious. However, the bananas edition leaves a lot to desire. I will never, ever buy it again. It smells of chemicals, artificial flavoring, I presume. Plus, the bananas are mere slivers and feel slimy. I am glad the expiration date is in November since it might take me a while to finish the box. Have you tried either? What is your opinion?
After sleeping from 3 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, I went to bed before 1 pm and slept until 11 am. And, I already feel a nap coming on. It is only noon and I feel exhausted!
The kitchen is full of dirty dishes. Plus, I have the new set of matching Pyrex SnapLock to wash. I see a full day of work in the kitchen with liberal rest periods for my back.
At least dinner will not involve lots of standing since we can eat the last of the chicken. Sweet potatoes and cabbage will round it out.
I feel much relief since we have a new leader and the inauguration occurred peacefully. Hopefully, the peace will last.
Just before noon, the elliptical machine came. I struggled to get it into the house and did not succeed. Tommy had to come to the door and pull it in from where I dragged it onto the door sill. This thing is really heavy. I hurt myself. Even in my strongest days, this machine would have been a challenge to move. The box was huge!
Tommy got it in the house and out of the box. I had to drag it to a place where he could get by in the living room. Then, I took his walker and sat on it to pedal. I spent 15 minutes trying to use it. LOL I kept stopping and starting and adjusting the walker to get in the right position.
It seems I may have a popliteal cyst behind my left knee. It hurts like I do, but maybe not since there is no swelling. I powered through the minor but sharp pain. After 15 minutes on the seated eliptical, it took another 15 minutes to get my heart and breathing back to normal. I am out of shape.
I plan not to use it again until this evening. I may seem like a wimp, but I do not want to overdo the exercise. If I can work three times a day, I may eventually be able to just sit and read like they advertise. A chair at the right height is going to be essential.
This machine "only" weighs 24.2 pounds even though it feels like 50 pounds. I remember picking up a 50 lb, child with relative ease!
This is called a Sunny Eliptical. It came fully assembled, thankfully! Sorry about the fuzzy picture. It has been 30 minutes since I finished with the elliptical and my arms feel like I have done exercise that involves my arms. Wish me luck with this endeavor.
Does anyone have one of these? Have you ever used one? Have you heard anything about its merits?
I have seen similar on tv, but have never bought one. I would have to sit in my rollator to use one, because I wouldn't want to sit on the edge of my recliner and make it mis-shapen. Do you actually pedal like a bike, or is it more of a sliding motion?
ReplyDeletesusie,
ReplyDeleteThe cubii is probably the one you have seen, more than twice the cost of this machine. I sat on Tommy's rollator. I have a chair in the kitchen that is mine and loaded with food. So, I will empty that and see if it works. Somehow, his rollator is not the right height. I would not want to use it on something soft like a sofa or recliner. It has a 7-inch back and forth and some height. It is more like a bicycle than I expected. It feels better than back and forth. It does not feel like sliding. I would send it right back if it were a sliding motion.
I love the Special K Red Berries.
ReplyDeleteSAM,
DeleteI do too. It is the only cereal I buy now and only when it is bogo at Publix. The banana one will never be bought again.
I have seen them and considered buying one for use under the desk while working. Was never sure that it would work, I wouldn't want to hit my knees under the desk.
ReplyDeleteMy current plan is that I have set my FitBit to 'buzz' me if I haven't taken at least 250 steps each hour. At 10 till the hour, it will buzz and tell me how many steps I have left. Sometimes it's 250! Sometimes it's 10. Sometimes it doesn't do anything because I took enough steps in the first 50 minutes.
Good for you for going slow. Stay committed to making a change!
Alice,
ReplyDeleteI will try and measure and see how high my knee goes and post here. That sounds like a good function on FitBit. I have to be committed to save my life! I had decided I would pedal three times a day, but now wonder if evening exercise would cause me to lose sleep. So, I may go with three times before 5 pm. I can do that.
I love Special K Red Berries. I eat it most mornings. My favourite though is Special K Chocolate Delight - but I can't get it here in Ontario. When the border is open, I often go shopping in Watertown NY and can get it then. It's been a whole year since I have been able to get it though.
ReplyDeleteChristy,
DeleteI have had the chocolate delight, but I sat and picked the chocolate out of the box! No more...lol. I hope you can get through soon to get your fix.
I have one, a Cubbi, and have used it for about 2-3 years waiting to lose weight so I could have my knees replaced. Worked up to an hour a day while I played oldie tunes to make it fun. I bought a height adjustable chair with side handles and back to get the correct height so it did not cause any back or leg problems. I could not bend knees enough to sit in a regular hard chair. Adjustable chair was out of catalog that I forget name of but Amazon probably has them. Had right knee done 4 months ago...did absolutely wonderful.....left will be done tomorrow!!!! Amazing what the knee replacements have don for me to get my life back at 66 years old. I’m again, very nervous and scared but will get through this wish me luck....0800,,,
ReplyDeleteKaren,
DeleteThere seems to be trouble with the height of seat on his walker. But, I am going to see about a kitchen chair, then work until I find the right height. I hope to be able to do and hour eventually. Right now, I hope to get in three 15 minute sessions each day. Can you find the name of the chair on the chair for me? Thanks.
I have a full sized elliptical & love it. I hope you're able to get it up & running - it's such a nice option for when the weather isn't good
ReplyDeletehw,
DeleteI am using it already and love it after the first time. I cannot stand up to pedal.
I did not even know they made one like that! Do you mind my asking what brand? I am wondering if I could use one like that, I have bad knees but I desperately need to exercise more.
ReplyDeleteCindy,
DeleteSunny is the brand. I love it. I was badly winded when I finished 15 minutes, so you will get a workout and you can make it easy or hard. I am on easy!
I had bad pain in the back of my leg about a year ago and I thought it was a cyst but the doctor’s,sonogram showed it was torn hamstring.
ReplyDeleteI looked at your machine and considered it and a Scoop but we decided on a simple full size recumbent that also exercises arms. Today was day 2 with it and so far, so good.
There are violent protests occurring on the west coast, mostly by Antifa becuse they don’t want ICE, police or prisons for anyone. I don’t like prisons either but what will keep people behaving without punishment?
Rhonda,
DeleteThis pain is over to the side behind my knee and only came on once I started peddling. I hope it is not my hamstring.
Is the recumbent low to ground, because I could never get up...lol.
I think too many people are sent to prison. And police mostly keep us safe except for the rogues. Ice is full of problems, imo, but I don't believe we should do away with them. I hate there are violent protests anywhere.
I had a full elliptical for a while and did not like it. Good old walking or chores for me. If I clean the whole house from top to bottom I can get 12,000 steps. Hope you like this.
ReplyDeleteKim,
DeleteDo you remember I cannot go for walks or walk to clean the house? I can barely stand to wash dishes while leaning on the sink.
I hope the machine you bought works for you. I have used a full elliptical before but I don't like it much. I prefer a recumbent bike but it takes up too much room. If you have the room, I think the recumbent bike would be a good option for you and is quite safe to get in and out of it you are able to lift your legs and swing them over to get onto the machine.
DeleteIt sounds like the equipment you bought will really work for you since you found it challenging to use it once for 15 minutes. I would do my best to find the right chair height then stick with it because you are getting a work out and most other machines will be more expensive and hard to move it or will require assembly. Another thing is go easy to begin with. You need to build up to 30 minutes or 45 minutes especially as you haven't been doing aerobic activity for some time. All the best.
ReplyDeleteJoyful,
DeleteI overdid it with 15 minutes!
I had a full size recumbent for a few years but that was when I was still running 5k races. When I remarried, 7 years ago, we had no place to put it so I joined a gym.
ReplyDeleteThis year, since we could not get out, I bought a cubii at the advice of my cousin, who teaches online classes for them (Anne). It has certainly helped build the stamina I lost.
Hope it works for you!
Jan,
DeleteThanks for the encouragement. Anne that comments here?
