Several times I have mentioned to Tommy that he could order from Amazon and not have to pay for shipping. He has flatly rejected that idea...lol. Until today!
His answering machine does not work after the phone line was disrupted and needed a repair. So, Friday night, I offered to order an answering machine for him from Amazon and he was completely on board. I had him toss the old one to me. I had picked out the identical answering machine. So, I ordered it.
Don't bother trying to convince him to get a phone with answering machine. It will just make him angry. I tried years ago when I got this answering machine for him. At that time he had no walker and used canes to walk, stubbornly refusing to use an electric cart. So, I offered to pick one up for him.
Tonight, I asked him what else he needed. He remembered he needed pen needles. So, I found those for half the price of his best price at Sam's Club. We were wary, okay, I was wary of him going in Sam's last year, and sure enough, he pulled his mask down to talk. Now, he needs more pen needles for his insulin. He is going to try this brand and if they work for him, he will order another dozen more boxes. He says $6.99 for 100 is half of the price at Sam's Club.
When I suggested razors, he had me find cheap ones. Then, I moved to shaving cream. He now has enough Bic razors and Barbasol shaving cream to last him the rest of his life. He doesn't shave every day, so he has plenty of supplies now. When we go out, he does shave.
All prices were cheaper than in the store!
Today, my once-a-month order of three things came. Sweet.
I owe him $160 for something he ordered for me and now he owes me $66.
Has anyone you know expressed reluctance at ordering from Amazon or another place online? So far, I have paid the cost of orders before interest was charged.
I am a huge fan of Amazon. Yesterday I got an order of heater/air filters and a second pair of light weight Thick Hoop Earrings. Earlier in the week I received a new toilet seat. I have reached the point that I depend on Amazon!
ReplyDeleteJanet,
DeleteAmazon is sooo handy. If they had not given me the free month and then Prime at half price, I would still be searching in the stores for things. I did order earrings from Belks. I could easily depend on Amazon.
In this economy and since we have means, I'm trying to use more local or small businesses even if on-line. I use Amazon when I truly can't get what we need outside of a big box store. We have used for school books for my daughter because you can't just pop into a local book shop for the obscure books she needs as supplemental to text books.
ReplyDeleteSAM,
DeleteI doubt that SAM's is going to be hurt by switching to Amazon. And, it is hurting me physically to go into stores again and again. But, I do understand the principle of supporting local. Tommy is hooked after this.
Totally in love with Amazon also. Not a week goes by that we don't order *at least* one thing. And now I'm antsy that everybody else doesn't deliver the next day. I have to wait 10 days to 2 weeks for books or clothes to arrive. AND, we watch lots of stuff on Amazon Prime.
ReplyDeleteWell worth the money for us.
Anne,
DeleteI have saved money by not using the fastest delivery and now have over $40 to spend at Amazon. All the clothing had to be returned, so that was a bummer.
I try to order local but I too confess Amazon is easy/quick
ReplyDeleteUrspo,
DeleteIt is and I like it.
I order off Walmart.com. It is stuff I normally buy there, and I always have a large enough order to get free shipping and it is fast. .It is usually cat food, liter, and dog food. I love that it is delivered to my door by Fed Ex because dog food and cat liter are heavy, and I have a bad back. I also send stuff to my son in Morgan Co,and my daughter out west. The two more local kids ( about an hour and half) I cart stuff up to them from here.
ReplyDeleteCindy,
DeleteI have not ordered from Walmart, yet. I have a bad back and Publix puts the half gallons of milk in my car without acting like I am just lazy. It is helpful for you to send stuff to Morgan County. That is a long drive from where you are. I love ordering online!
