A Chair Garden

This video is from Robbie, the woman who has a thousand hummingbirds. She had a clever Chair Garden. and good advice.

We went to Cullman today. I received one piece of mail--amount I received in ss this past year. We dropped off soup-type cans and a bag of coke and pepsi cans for friend with $6000 job on the septic tank, went to my house, to Publix and to another store. I found store-brand butter for $1.50. I regret only purchasing one pound.

At Publix I bought two Hormel pork tenderloins that were bogo for $8.99--Apple Bourbon and Original. I was pretty sure this meat bogo was not in our Publix ad. It turns out I was correct. So, I am glad I bought it and wrapped it in three bags and brought it home in a soft side cooler. These look like crockpot candidates.

We came straight home and arrived at 2:45. a record time for returning home from Cullman. Best of all, the sun was not on the horizon and blinding us!

Since I had a uti at Christmas, I have not read anything in bed. I have not done my marching or any of the other exercises. Last night, I marched for the first time and five minutes was a piece of cake. Also, another plus for the lift chair is lack of pain when marching. Before, I sat on Tommy's walker. Last night, I sat in my lift chair and had no pain in my lower back when I marched. It will be much easier to do this exercise from now on and I will probably do more.

The lift chair continues to chalk up pluses for my health and comfort.

Okay, it is on to decluttering with my right hand hurting. For a few days, I am going to cut back on using it and see how that works.

What have you done today? Any good meat deals?

  1. Meal with homemade chicken soup and loads of veggies including lots of cut up spinach. This is a bonus soup with several meals that I can get out of it. I just add some zuchinni bread I had in the freezer from summer

    1. Ann,
That sounds delicious! I like soup meals that have more servings for later.

  2. Yeah for you. The lift chair is working out so well. I have had a good and productive day today getting a number of small tasks and errands out of the way. More of that tomorrow. Have a wonderful day.

    1. Joyful,
It seems to get better each day and helps me. I did so few tasks at home. Ugh. I hope your tomorrow is as productive as today.

  3. Your Publix must be in a different advertising zone than mine. The Hormel tenderloins are BOGO at the one I use. Lucky for me!

    1. Anne,
But, the one in Cullman had the bogo, too. I am glad I did not decide to just get them here in Hueytown. And your Pig had two free items!

    2. The Pig has begun having 2 free items. One is for the entire week and the other is strictly a Monday free item. Since you have to purchase 10 dollars to get the free item and I use their butcher department anyway, I wait until Monday to go. The new store is fabulous. Much better than the old one.

    3. Fantastic!
Anne, thanks. Where is the new Pig? We know where the old one is located. We won't go there all the time, but want to make one trip, at least. I can look up the ad online. When I buy water or produce, I can easily spend $10. I have already found out that I have to have separate store apps.

    4. The new pig is across the street from the old pig

    5. Anne,
Thanks. Maybe we will run into each other next Monday. Of course, I would never know what you look like...lol.

  4. so glad your lift chair is going well! A tiny piece of unsolicited advice- perhaps try to add some slight upper arm exercises as well. Perhaps lifting soup cans if you can! I'm not a healthcare person or rehab person- The rehab person for my grandmother mentioned the only "downside" to much needed lift chairs is that people can lose so much additional upper body strength. Fantastic job working out!!

    1. We both have thought about the loss of strength. That is why Tommy did not want to get one. I thought about that aspect and completely ignored it because I no longer hurt. I am doing a lot of lifting that I don't want to do, just getting things like clutter gone from here. I was lifting my body from 18" off the floor!!!

  5. We went in with my husbands brother and slaughtered a cow, so the freezer is stocked pretty well with meat. I think our total worked out to between 3.50 and $4 per pound, which is far cheaper than even ground beef at the stores right now.

I work across the street from a Kroger, so if I ever have to go in there, I always look at the meat. Sometimes if there are items that have been marked down, I will purchase them for cooking immediately.

    1. Alice,
That is two great advantages--slaughtered cow and Kroger across the street.

  6. I like the Hummingbird Lady. I only wish I could get as many as she does? Last year I put out 2 feeders and only got 2 nesting pairs; I'm still thrilled to see them.

You sound so chipper since you got your chair! I'm happy for you--chronic pain is no joke.

I spent my morning elbow-to-elbow with the rest of the world, buying groceries prior to winter storm Keenan here in the Northeast. We're expecting 8-12" here in central CT. Normally I would have gone late last night and gotten the jump on things, but we had company. Sigh.

The only really good deal I got was 1% milk at $2.49/gallon and two 3lb bags of onions for only $5. We are talking French onion soup, people! :^)

I also stopped at a new bakery that sounded interesting and bought cupcakes. They were small and meh. The salted caramel doughnut I bought was fabulous, though.

I'm battening down the hatches here; filling gas tanks and topping off wiper fluid, doing load after load of laundry, and vacuuming. I like a clean house before the shit hits the fan! LOL!

Hope everyone stays warm and dry this weekend!

    1. Sue,
I am glad you are preparing well. It is no fun to be unable to have things at least close to normal. I always make sure I have a fresh bath and hair clean. When the electricity goes off, another bath and hair washing occur immediately! Being freshly clean is important for living without anything!

Maybe more hummingbirds will come this year.
