I need clothing, warm clothing. Big Box was where I was going. Last month I found a sweatshirt and a jacket of same fabric and bought one of each. I wear the sweatshirt over my nightgown because the covers slide and I get cold. The jacket is sort of like a housecoat for me because I don't have one. I had two that were lost.
This house has a breeze! It is not too cold, but there is a constant breeze. It could be because there is a quarter inch gap around the front door. AND, the storm door does not meet the door for the last 18 inches. Right now, I can see daylight around the front door!
I could wash clothes often, but it is a trip outside, down the ramp and up a steep ramp to the carport to the utility/laundry room. I hate being nasty from cooking or eating...lol. it happens! So, Tommy has to do the laundry. He gets anxious about washing every other day. I don't blame him.
There is no room for my sewing machine yet. I know it does not take much room, but even a tiny bit is not free. So, I buy clothing! Cheap clothing!
How can a person bring home 9 pieces of clothing and only one piece fit? I have no idea but I cannot get into the dressing room and back and forth!
Now, it all has to be returned on Sunday and I must do more shopping. No, I cannot stand up long enough to shop in a thrift store. I am very demoralized right now.
In Cullman I had the friend who was druggy to help me shop. She never tried to encourage me to get or "just try" anything I did not like. Oh, she cleaned for me, how I met her. I need her.
I could spend the money on weatherizing the doors on this house and would not need so many things to wear to stay warm in this breezy house. But, Tommy wants no improvements to happen, just keep paying high utility bills.
Really, I don't even like buying clothing. AND, I cannot afford this expense. Even cheap clothing is expensive.
Right now, even though my feet are well off the floor, there is a strong breeze about two feet from my feet and legs to the floor.
On the upside, Saturday was a beautiful day even if it was cold and had biting wind. The ride was pleasant and people were not driving crazily. That is always a plus. Sunshine makes any day great!
Okay, I was so discouraged by the events of Saturday and this rant, I did not publish this. Really, the weather, the sky, it was all so pleasing on Saturday!
But, it is Sunday, so I will visit this bummer shopping trip on you. I needed to complain beyond Tommy.
Sunday has been a terrific day. I only slept 5 hours but my body said to get up. I did. In 1.5 hours, my body said to go to bed. I did. So, at 2:30 I began the day...lol. Since then, 2 hours ago, we have emptied dishwasher, filled the dishwasher, watched seals/lids for glass containers, put away lots of things out of place. While Tommy was washing pots and pan and lids and crock pot, I was busy.
There are two large square table, one on each side of my recliner. They are basically where they were when I arrived. The one on the right side was in front of the sofa/love seat. It has since been sort of pulled back beside the recliner.
Underneath was a cardboard box full of stuff. STUFF! I have been hanging over the edge of the recliner and pulling things out, one piece at a time. I found treasure. This is where the clothespins were placed. Much of the stuff belongs to Tommy. Obviously, I stashed stuff on top. I found my round mirror, the kind that has the little metal legs that fold flat, can be hung, or opened up to sit on a surface.
The best thing is a book, never even opened, it appears. I wonder where I got this--free books, gift, was it here? I was pleasantly surprised to see it was published by Little, Brown and Company. Teh Little, Brown Handbook is a standby for English language type students who want to learn or perfect spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage.
I think I got this at the free book place. I have been perusing the contents, recipes and pictures.
Now, if I only had a bundt pan.
Sunday is a beautiful, warm day. I have been inside, either sleeping or catching up on things we should have done. It feels good to have gotten such a lot of decluttering done at once and have dishes done. But, here at 4:45, there is plenty of sunshine left to enjoy going out to water the paperwhites. Maybe we can take a short ride. We need nothing at the store.
After we come home, we make soup. "We" because he will scrape the carrots. He can chop them, too, because my hands still hurt from cutting carrots from last week. At least half this soup goes into the freezer. A turkey or breast still has not been put into the refrigerator to thaw!
How has your Sunday gone? Snow? Good food? Company? Happy with the little things? Plans?
I really wish the weather where you are can be so beautiful like it has been this weekend and for the next five days.
One thing that we do with a cold door like that is to hang a coat on the door handle to knock the breeze off of there. it really does help.
ReplyDeleteBelinda,
DeleteThat is a good idea. He will probably get mad at me, but I will try it.
I recommend buying a snake to put across the bottom of the gap in the door or windows. Often you can find them in a dollar store. But it's probably easier to buy the long plastic or rubber strips that are then attached to the bottom of the door. These are not so expensive and work better to keep out drafts. It's a simple device so Tommy need not get concerned that it's a renovation though you will need someone to attach it to the bottom of the door for you.
ReplyDeleteJoyful,
DeleteActually, the bottom of the door seems pretty tight. It is around the sides where I can see daylight. A towel works, too. Tommy is concerned about all that happens. Remember how it took two years for him to agree to cleaning inside the refrigerator?
Okay then how about some inexpensive weather stripping. In fact I bought 2 of the items I'm recommending to you and I got them at the dollar store. That's how I know I'd rather have a rubber strip that goes across the bottom of my door so it doesn't need to be lifted out of the way every time I leave the house. I use those fabric snakes across the bottom of my windows. Yes, a towel works but something else looks better. I realize that is probably the least of your concerns right at this moment since you have a ways to go to get the house in shape. I didn't remember about the cleaning of the refrigerator. Perhaps I haven't been reading for 2 years yet. My Sunday went well. I mostly did the usual, Bible reading, regular reading, dishes and cooking. I made dinner which was nice and a chicken rice stew for Monday. I also cleaned out one refrigerator crisper. Try as I might I am still getting far too much food waste. Largely it's because I get too tired often times to keep up with everything. I know you will understand. Have a wonderful week ahead. Sunshine is always a mood lifter in winter.
DeleteI bought two things to use and he yelled at me not to use them. I do understand about being too tired. I threw out broccoli that I bought before I had the uti. Tommy just moves it about and only throws it away when it gets runny! I got to it when it got slimy...lol...threw it out. I let the celery go too long, threw the last bit out and then did not have any for soup on Sunday. Do you have a freezer to put it in? I know that is silly because when I am too tired to find vegetables, I certainly am too tired to blanche and freeze.
DeleteHa, ha, yes, if I'm too tired to look in the crisper for the veggies there isn't any way I will have the energy to clean and prepare them for the freezer. I do have a small freezer and I mostly use it for meat, frozen veggies and fruits, ice cream and anything ready made that I have left over and want to eat later. Sadly my crispers all too often see slimy veggies.
DeleteJoyful,
DeleteThe crisper drawers won't come open without fighting them. So, it is all on a shelf. Tommy helps to keep it sorted mostly. I do understand!
You can buy peel and stick weather stripping and it cuts with scissors. Probably something you could do yourself. It sure does help - I used some this year.
ReplyDeleteCheryl,
DeleteI have that and was not allowed to install it myself! It has been here for two years. I put it in doors and windows all the time at my house.
Is it possible to find your own place? That would be the best solution or even to threaten it might make him more willing to please.
ReplyDeleteCarole,
DeleteHe runs hot and cold.
If you need to be sneaky maybe you could use a can of foam insulation spray. Fast and easy to apply, dries fast, and you can do it when he's snoring in his recliner! Blame it on the cleaning guy if he notices.
ReplyDelete"What, Tommy? What's that bead of foam around the door? Why, I have no idea! Well, when XXX (guy who helps you clean) was here last he mentioned he could feel a draft. Gee, he must have fixed it himself and felt he was doing us a favor! I'll give him a good talking-to next time he's here!" Snort, giggle, snort!

Sue,
DeleteThat may be what it takes...lol. Usually, if I sneak something, he says nothing even if he notices. Thanks
PS. Chicken in a bundt pan? Pish tosh! That won't add any extra flavor. Why bother?
ReplyDeleteSue,
DeleteThey gave a reason, forgot what. It is a nice gimmick and picture, at least.
I doubt it was a good reason. Cooking a chicken vertically over the center of a bundt pan is only going to cause juices to run down the hole and into the oven. And if have to put a pan under the bundt pan to catch the juices, what's the point of the bundt?
DeleteGimmicky cooking ideas leave me irritable. It makes me want to sit down with Tommy and prod him into an hours-long rant about weather stripping.
;^)
Sue,
DeleteYou are supposed to cover the center hole with foil and put a pan underneath. It is a good picture, but not probably such a good idea. Believe me, I will not try it unless I have lots of company here to ooh and ahh...lol.
It was a picture in the cookbook that really is full of good ideas.
I was going to pull out the years old weatherstripping and start to fix it. He would not like it. But, I got little sleep last night. I don't feel well and my stomach is rumbly.
He fixed himself a salad and ate chicken from a can. I don't feel like cooking or doing anything. But, I will let you have a talk/rant with Tommy about weatherstripping!
