Starlight Coca Cola

Limited Edition

I had heard about this new Coca Cola flavor. It is supposed to taste like space. NOT! I have tasted space and this is all wrong.

Usually, when a new flavor comes out, it is not sold as a single. I found this 20 oz. bottle staring at me from an end cap. I brought it home after it jumped in the electric cart. Being from space, it had never seen an electric cart. Besides, it wanted to cuddle with the Beanie Babies I was adopting.

I finally put Starlight in the refrigerator and today we tasted it. It was gross. Tommy liked it and drank the rest. I have never liked any of the other new flavors Coke has brought us. I don't like Cherry Coke, Vanilla Coke, Coke Zero. None of them.

I remember when Coke introduced New Coke. It was awful. Pepsi was better, so I switched to Pepsi until Coke came to their senses. Space Flavored is no better than New Coke.

The bottle is pretty.

Have you tasted space in the new Coke Starlight flavor? Did you like any of the other iterations of Coca Cola?

  1. My husband brought home the starlight coke. He really liked it. I tasted it and it was nasty. My kids said it tasted like burnt marshmallows. Lol

    1. Rachel,
So, we think alike. Burnt marshmallows? I did not get that, but I gagged lots. Neither Tommy nor I could describe it. I am glad your kids had a descriptor. Thank them from me.

Chocolate or scrambled eggs. I cannot decide.

  3. I don't like anything Coke - if I drink a soda it better be a Pepsi product.

  4. The "original" formula now on the market isn't really; this is sweetened with corn syrup. The original used sugar. If you can find bottles that say bottled in Mexico, that is the original because they are sweetened with sugar, the taste takes you back to your youth, lol. here's some info: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/story-mexican-coke-more-complex-than-hipsters-would-admit-180956032/

    1. ming,
I have one of those occasionally, but they are so expensive! Thanks.

    2. I found them at Dollar General a few years back, one dollar each, I too saved them for special treats. I kind of got interested and did a search, found they were going for five dollars each in New York. They are wonderful if you feel ill. Haven't been able to find any since covid. I'm in a small town maybe that's why.

    3. ming,
I saw them at a store here the other day, plenty of them. Well, I won't be buying any in NYC! Thanks.

    1. HHH,
Thanks for that opinion. To me, they were nothing like cotton candy.

  6. You are hilarious! When did you get the chance to taste space? I would think the flavor would be delicate yet somewhat metallic. Kind of like unsweetened whipped cream that came in a tin can.

I have tried the Starlight Coke. I don't know how it's possible to make already-sweet Coke even sweeter, but they seem to have prevailed.
I don't drink sugared sodas, so the Starlight is not something I'll ever buy again.

Diet Pepsi is my favorite cola. I also like diet Dr. Pepper (it has a cherry-like essence) and diet Root Beer. Diet Grape soda is like crack for me.

Even though I love diet soda, I have cut down my consumption. The artificial sweeteners all raise the blood sugar and wreak havoc on one's gut biome. Water and homemade refrigerator tea (a blend of herbal orange and hibiscus teas plus green and black teas) are my primary refreshments. I do drink vanilla almond milk, as well as the occasional glass of cow's milk.

    1. Sue,
I guess you are the only person who thinks I am funny. Tommy just stared at me. Well, I have been called a space cadet, soooo.

It was more than I could stand! Since I moved here, I drink too much Diet Coke. I try to go with just plain water or unsweetened tea. I love milk!

    2. I love milk, too! I mean, Wisconsin girl in the house! I could drink it by the quarter gallon. It's better than chugging beer.

But nowadays, I can't afford to drink my calories, and sugars/carbs are too much. So unsweetened vanilla milk is my go-to.

    3. Oh, my bad. I should have been more specific. Unsweetened vanilla ALMOND milk. It's 30-40 cals/cup, with very few carbs.

It will never replace real cow's milk, but it's a reasonable substitute. I use it to make my own version of Starbucks Mocha Frappucino (the stuff in the bottles sold in stores, not the fancy drink from Starbucks itself).

My copycat mocha frap is super good with only like 53 cals per cup, because I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk and allulose (a very good artificial sugar that doesn't raise blood sugar). I make it by the pitcherful in the summer.

    4. Sue,
Thanks. That was puzzling. I don't like coffee, so no frappe for me.
