The article says "everyone has sneakers." No, neither of us has sneakers. I have never worn sneakers. Tommy discarded all his long ago. But, it is good to know there is a way to get rid of them. Most go to others. The rest are recycled. The money she received would not be an incentive, but the recycling of sneakers is good.
The sneaker above is similar to what I wore and only on a tennis court. I sat down on the court and put these on, placing my sandals outside the court. My daughter in high school said that people spent too much on shoes and she wore the same leather sneakers to high school. Smart girl. Ours did not have the embroidery embellishment. And, they were super cheap back in the 80s. Mostly, they fit our feet well and were easy to walk in. And play tennis. Our feet were the identical size and shape, so when I wore hers once, it was like my own shoes.
We did nothing today. I did sleep well last night and awoke at 12:30 pm. He covered up the plants since it will be just below freezing tonight and tomorrow night. We both piddled at washing things she dragged out and put some in the dishwasher. Right now, The Sting is on. I love this movie, so that is on the agenda.
Dinner is in the oven--chicken breasts, carrots, onion, and celery. Tommy reminded me of the onion and the fact we had cut and washed celery. Otherwise, I would not have used the onion and celery. We will open a can of green beans. He might want peas instead. Two of the breasts have bone and skin. The other two or three are thinly sliced breasts.
Does anyone hate sneakers as much as I do? Or, do you love them and wear them all the time?
I wear them for exercise only.
ReplyDeleteElle,
DeleteI thought I answered, guess not. Thanks for answering. I know some people wear sneakers/tennis shoes daily and all the time.
I wear sketchers now instead of lace up sneakers. They are comfortable and are lightweight. They can be pricey, but I buy online or when there is a sale. I don't go out often so they last for a long time. I also have good leather flats if I need something a little more dressy.
ReplyDeleteHave you made any more progress in a new mattress? If your bed is not comfortable, you don't sleep well, a new mattress can be a god send. Is there anyone you can borrow a wheelchair so you could get into a store to test them. My kids have one of those purple mattresses and love it. I think now some stores are stocking them here so you can test it. It is a very expensive and hard thing to chose. I would only get one that has some sort of guarantee. If it does not work for you in 90 days you can return or exchange it.
I spent about 1000.00 on my last one about 9 years ago. I had looked for 2 years. This one I loved but could not afford, I got it for 75% off as a discontinued model. The normal price was 4000,00.
I am not a small lady and it has stayed firm. It does have a pillowtop that makes it comfy. Does Tommy need one too? You might be able to negotiate a better price if you purchase two. I bought another for my guest room a few years ago for my guest room/grandsons sleeping room at a mattress outlet. It was 300.00 delivered, came with a mattress pad. (waterproof) It is very comfortable as well. It is just a double bed but plenty of room if I have grown visitors.
Do you ever just bake an onion? I carve out a space in center down to the root. Fill it with butter and wrap them in foil. Bake and hour at about 350, they come out so tender and sweet. I have never had a vidalia and hope to find some this year for baking.
Texas,
DeleteI thought about encouraging Tommy to get Skechers since he could slip his foot inside with no laces. But, he got Crocs and SAS to slip on his feet. Not for me, though.
I am working on a plan I have formulated to solve all the logistics. Frankly, I do not know anyone with an electric wheelchair that I would ask to borrow it. Anyone who has one needs it. Besides, that is a great favor. And, I know no one with one.
Right now, there are sales, or there were. I have not felt like shopping or thinking much about a mattress. I mentioned getting another with a purchase. Tommy was adamant that he does not need a mattress in this house. So, that is that.
What brand mattress did you buy? I cannot stand pillow top mattresses, foam, or gel. So!
I will always use a pad for allergies.
Vidalias are the best onions ever! This year, I hope to dehydrate some.
I have a Stearns and Foster, it was the first pillow top I have owned. I don't remember seeing that many brands that had the normal mattresses we grew up with, Back then every mattress was supposed to be flipped once a year. I don't think many of those are available anymore. Seems they are all pillow top or have some sort of gel. It is a hard shop for sure. As far as the wheelchair, I was thinking of a regular one the sales staff could get out of the trunk for you and push into the store. If that is not an option, if you have to buy online, I would go with one that has a try out period. The only thing I know for sure is if the mattress you are sleeping (or not sleeping on) can make a big difference to your health
DeleteMost of the ones on the internet I think are that new fangled foam or gel. Have you ever been able to lie on one of those? They have a lot of good reviews but I have not tried one.
That is one thing I am looking forward to, the farmers market and fresh veggies. The heat, not so much. I do not like heat and I am worried about electricity costs this summer. Have a great Tuesday.
Texas,
DeleteI am sleeping on his Stearns and Foster, so not a fan. Yes, I have tried foam and gel in the stores. Not a fan. I doubt I could sleep on one or a pillow top either. I hate those because they feel like I am sleeping IN them and they are hot.
Sales people are not wheelchair pushers!
You might not be able to find vidalia onions at a farmer' s market. Yes, it will be hot this summer. Tommy' s bill is not to high, I don't think.
I used to wear sneakers and they were comfy but not exactly my style. Now I wear the same pair of black orthopaedic lace ups every day of my life. It saves buying shoes and deciding which shoes to wear and leather shoes look nicer, in my opinion
ReplyDeletekylie,
DeleteI wear the same shoes every day, also. However, changing pairs is the best, same style, different pair. I can only wear leather!
I wear sneakers, aka tennis shoes, regularly as they support my feet and help me keep a good balance. I’m less likely to have a fall in these types of shoes.
ReplyDeleteBelinda,
DeleteIt is good you have something to keep your balance. I just cannot stand a shoe that ties onto my foot. I called all the rubber-soled shoes that tie and are/were for athletics tennis shoes. So, I still do.
Linda, you should check with your local Senior Center. They usually have walkers and wheelchairs for the community to borrow as needed. You check the equipment out like you'd check out a book from the library.
ReplyDeleteI wear trainers, which is the current word for running/walking shoes. Of course the young must always have their new words for old things. That way they can feel like the are The! First! Ever! to "discover" an item that's been around for decades. Ah, foolish youth!
I do not wear sneakers as pictured above. But I don't hate them, either. They just don't have a place in my life. Tennis sneakers are for tennis, which I haven't played in years. Any kind of canvas sneakers make my feet sweat horribly, so I don't wear 'em.
Crocs are my house shoes; I don't wear slippers because they have no support. Say what you want about how ugly they are, but Crocs are very supportive and comfy.
Sketchers are my everyday runaround/errand shoes; they work very well for my wonky feet. I have at least 6 pair, in summer and fall colors. They are washable, which is wonderful.
I am still trying to find serious walking shoes. Asics was my go-to brand for years, but they've gone to hell; the designs are shitty, the colors are ugly, and they've changed their lasts to be narrower--even their wide shoes are narrow. They are not in stores and have zero customer service.
New Balance does have stores, but they seldom have a decent selection. I got a pair that fits like a dream but my heels lift up when I walk. So they are going back.
Allbirds are comfy but again, not in stores and no customer service. So I'm well and truly screwed. At least it feels like it. DD says there are other brands for me to try, but I am exhausted and annoyed with the whole process. Since when did buying one damn pair of shoes become such an ordeal?
Sue, Not sure what size shoe you wear, but I wear a 9.5 in women's and have a wide foot. I have recently taken to purchasing men's 7.5's and they are perfect!
DeletePP, to answer your question - yes, I wear tennis shoes "sneakers" all the time. As of this writing, I am at work in a long skirt with new Skechers tennis shoes I bought this weekend. The Hoka shoes I mentioned a couple of weeks ago are also sneakers / tennis shoes. This weekend, I bought a pair of Brooks for the first time. These are all for wearing to work and on weekends.
I have two pairs of men's Skechers sort-of dressy slip ons that I also wear to work.
Alice,
DeleteMy feet are very swollen. Right now, I wear a size 9. I thought they were 9.5, but just a 9. That is a good tip about the men's size that corresponds to the women's.
You are a good endorsement for Skechers! If you work in these shoes, I imagine they are comfortable. Thanks for that information.
The Senior Center here is just a room. Tommy went there to look for activities. There were three or four old guys playing cards. He was tol they have no programs. So, just no on checking out a wheelchair.
ReplyDeleteCrocs hurt my feet as do Birkenstocks. So, cannot wear those. The ones in the picture--I don't know what they are called. The Air Jordan types--no idea what they are called, eitiher...lol. Everything is tennis shoes to me.
I hear that a lot about all these brands. Canvas just plain hurts my feet. I am sticking with my SAS sandals. Maybe DD can lead you to some good shoes. Ask older people what they wear. I agree, things should not be so difficult.
My feet are so touchy. Nearly all shoes hurt! I also wear a ridiculous size. I am a 10.5. Most shoes jump from 10 directly to an 11. All the other sizes are offered in half sizes. No Fair
ReplyDeleteI wear Birkenstocks 95% of the time. I like the ones called Giza, they are sort of a flip flop thong style. I have some Tabi socks. They are the Japanese ones that have a separate big toe compartment so you can wear a flip flop style even in cold weather.
I am also mattress shopping. The bed I currently have is a Ca King. I should probably go with a queen but that would necessitate buying all new bedding. At my age I figure that I won't need a long term guarantee..... 20 more years if I am extremely lucky!
Janet,
ReplyDeleteI suppose "touchy" would best describe my feet, too. I went from a 7.5 prepregnancy to a 9.5 now. Not fair.
That bump behind the toes makes my feet hurt, so no Birkenstocks. I wondered how Japanese could wear a sock with flip flops.
I am sleeping on a worn out full size. I bought Queen sheets and they work so that I can use them when/if I get a Queen. I suppose I don't need a long-term guarantee, either. Okay, 20 years should work...lol.
I live in sneakers, or treaders as I sometimes call them. Sometimes I wear them to work too as they are more comfortable than the shoes.
