I have a one-track mind sometimes! This lack of my preferred Dawn has me thinking, searching, trying to figure it out.
Eventually, the bottle I had petted along, being very careful lest I used it up too soon finally is empty, washed out.
The label I want says--Dawn, non-concentrated, SIMPLY CLEAN, original scent, dishwashing liquid. It is a white label with blue on it.
The new label on the new and unwanted bottle--DAWN, ultra, 50% less scrubbing, 3x grease power, *vs non-ultra DAWN, dishwashing liquid.
I used it for the first time. Here are my observations:
* thinner liquid
*bottle is more flexible, less firm feeling even when full
* it is not what I want
Okay, you think I am obsessed with this, don't you? Well, I don't want my hands itching and breaking out. I do not want sores on my hands from my scratching and irritation.
Add that annoyance to the fact that the thin liquid comes out faster and I am just over it. I have had the 25 fl oz bottle and used it since last September. I predict the new 19.4 fl oz bottle will be used well before another year is up.
The DAWN I like is in a rounded bottle and stands up to handling. The new bottle is flattish and starts to flex like it might collapse when I pick it up. I won't be throwing out the old bottle and will eventually pour the new and hated liquid into the old bottle.
Okay, I am feeling better and washed some dishes today--genesis of this complaint.
Do you ever have a product you so completely need that you feel passionate enough about to complain mightily? What has disappeared that annoys you? What do you hope does not disappear? By disappear I mean forever or just for this period of commercial stress.
Next thing you know, my Dove bar soap will change! (I am set with Dove.)

ReplyDeleteIf that's it, it's also on Wal-Mart's online store as another option.
Bri,
DeleteIt is. I just did not want to order online and have it out or get a substitute I will have to return. I failed to put that in the post. Thanks!
Yes I have been searching for Shout spray stain remover aerosol in a can, for a long time could only find at Walmart, often not there and now not at all. (I had built up a stash and down to my last two cans). I'll keep looking.
ReplyDeleteJRE,
DeleteLOl...I know you will keep looking just like I will. Someday, we will find what we are looking for. Hopefully, you will find it before you run out.
There are so many types of Dawn now. My husband had been shopping and bringing them home in a gigantic bottle that has to be transferred into the little bottles that there was room for on my kitchen counter. I don't even know if we can buy any of the small bottle sizes anymore. One of the Dawn's that he bought had a scent that really bothered me, it kind of caught in my nose and back of throat. It really had a tang to it's perfume-y scent. The next one he bought that looked like the bottle description was exactly the same as the one before did not have that bad catch in the throat scent. It finally ran out. We got Palmolive liquid detergent in a fairly giant bottle, but I didn't want to risk permanently stinking up my small dawn bottle with it, so now I have to make room for a huge bottle of Palmolive, but not for long. I think it is leaving too much of a perfumey scent on the dishes no matter how long I rinsed. I didn't say anything, but then my husband used it for something, and he came out of the kitchen saying oooo-weee that Palmolive stinks. So he checked Amazon Prime for Dawn but it was very expensive. He saw it for a cheaper price at the Walmart.com site so we will probably get some Dawn from there. Sometimes more variety doesn't mean a good thing, it ends up meaning it is just harder to find the one that I used to like a lot.
ReplyDeletesusie,
DeleteI just remembered that I have a tiny bottle about six inches tall of Dawn! I will get that out and maybe will never have to use this huge bottle I hate that is the wrong kind. Oh, I cannot use Palmolive at all.
I figure this bottle will be used somewhere, sometime. At least I know that the tiny bottle is here in a stash of stuff.
More variety means that my favorite will be the one not carried for a while, it seems. Like Coke--the Caffeine Free Regular Coke is not in stores right now. That is why I am buying multiples just in case.
I understand not wanting to stink up your small Dawn bottle. Some smells are so annoying. Good luck with your Dawn search!
Dollar Tree has several different formulas of Dawn in the small bottles. I recently tried the new Dawn Ultra Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray Fresh Scent and I LOVE it. The 16 oz bottle was $4.84 @ Wal-Mart, a little pricy but in my opinion well worth the splurge.
ReplyDeleteBetty,
DeleteI need to go to DT tomorrow. I will look there, too. Everywhere I go I look for Ball jars and Dawn. Thanks.
I deleted a comment that I did not mean to delete. Whoever you are, please put the comment back up. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteI bought a 90 oz bottle of Platinum Dawn at Sams and love it. I do transfer it into smaller bottles. Then Husband tells me he has a bottle of Dawn in the basement I could use up. I go get it and it is another almost full 90 oz Platinum Dawn. It will be a long time before I need more. Until I read your post I did not know there were different types of Dawn. Thought it was all the same.
ReplyDeleteAnn,
DeleteI had a bottle/jug that size of the original Dawn plus a dozen smaller bottles. I suppose they are in the dump! You appear to be set for a few years.
I'm guessing that the reason the new Dawn is so thin is that it has been diluted so they make more money. If I were you I would 1. Wear gloves when washing dishes to protect my hands and 2. order it online from Wal Mart. If they're out, they're out.
ReplyDeleteAnne,
DeleteIt is supposed to be 3Xs stonger, so being thinner makes no sense. I cannot wash dishes using gloves as I cannot handle dishes, never could. Walmart substitutes things if they are out. Besides, I would have to order a certain amount.
I just hate it when my favorite products are suddenly "improved" or disappeared forever. They are seldom ever better than the original product and when a product disappears for good it's even worse. Stuff that IMHO has become worse over the years: Crisco, Lever soap, Ritz crackers, Max Factor products (these disappeared from America completely), Hershey's chocolate...I could go on and on.
ReplyDeleteCOL,
DeleteOver the years, WM has helped to wean me from going to them for shopping as they will delete from their shelves what I want, like Palmolive dishwsher liquid in the purple bottle/label. Now, they only have lemon. When a product goes to lemon, they lose me. Yes, the list is long for me, too.
I love the small bottles of Palmolive that is blueberry scented and beautiful purple. I get them at Dollar Tree and they are the only dish soap that doesn't make my hands dry out, crack and bleed. I have used it for the last two years and now it is almost impossible to find. I keep searching and getting what every I can of it when I find it. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCrystal,
DeleteI think I bought that once. It makes my hands itch. But, I know what you mean about having a product that you like and getting it when and where you find it.
Yes, when you find one that works for you and you like it you will search everywhere for it. lol
DeleteCrystal,
DeleteSo true. And, we cannot be swayed to another brand. With me it about allergies.
I've been looking hard at what I buy and why. Mostly because it is familiar rather than based on price or quality. I am experimenting with trying new things to see any improvements
ReplyDeleteUrspo,
DeleteMany times what i buy is based on scent (bath, laundry) or allergies (edibles). I suppose we all buy the familiar.
We use Gain dish detergent, but mostly because I'm obsessed with the scent of gain. Maybe you could put your dish detergent into a pump bottle, so you use less each time by pumping it out (like a hand soap) i nstead of pouring it. I always feel like I use more when pouring anyway. For this reason, I also us a pump in the shower for body wash instead of turning the bottle over and squeezing. But I do use Dove bar soap also, and have found it a few times at a discount grocery that we go to. I like to stock up. - here's a good tip for bar soap. When you buy it, open it and let the bar set open to the air. It dries it out so that it's not used as quickly.
ReplyDeleteAlice,
ReplyDeleteThe scent of Gain is really offensive to me...lol. I don't like to pump for dishwashing. I know that is true of soap, but Dove is not soap. I wonder if it works for Dove. I use a $0.75 coupon on a $1.50 single bar of Dove, so it is really a bargain.
