It Came a Day Early

Tommy was closing the door after going outside and said, "Your delivery is here." Be still my heart. The Juki serger was supposed to be delivered by Monday afternoon, so this is a wonderful surprise. But, I was not prepared with a place to sit it. Never mind. I am thrilled.

It is a Juki MO-80CB. I think that is the model. It has cover stitch, lock stitch, and a bunch of other features.

This model was $799, marked down to $440. As I ordered, I asked the woman if there was any special or coupon or code. She said she could give me 10% off for Labor Day. So, it was $396. I had saved $392 and had the $4 in cash. Tommy let me use his card and I put the amount in his bank. Works for me. I had gotten a refund that put this over the top. Well, to the top.

I was told it would be threaded so I could pull the threads through. It is not!  Okay, it is. the threads are white and in a little groove.

Now, when I get some fabric, I can sew. Black pants are first.

Do you have a serger? Do you sew?

  1. I have sewn many things but do not have a serger. I have a regular sewing machine but for me it is ample. Hope you can show what it is like and what it does that is different from a regular sewing machine

  2. Ann,
It is essential for sewing knits. I intend to make my clothing. At one point I made all my panties and bras, too. It makes a rolled hem for napkins and a decorate edge to finish sheer fabrics. It is a versatile machine. It finishes edges of woven material so it won't ravel. The faint of heart are afraid of them because there is a knife that trims the edge before covering them. This actually cost less than a reliable straight stitch machine. There was no tax and free shipping from CA. I am quite sure the tax and shipping is in there somewhere.

    1. Urspo,
You would love a serger. I can use it to mend those towels or washcloths that start to ravel on the edge, too.

    1. Joyful,
I am ecstatic! My commercial serger went in the dump. I had it for about 35 years, and it was a dream. I bought it on credit at a local place, used, and paid for it by sewing. Hopefully, I can sew and make this pay for itself. AND, clothes will be cheaper.

    2. I was just telling a family member the other day that I'm so glad I can sew. I don't pretend to be a great sewer but I can get by and even if I could only hem pants or sew buttons I would be pleased with myself. It seems so many didn't have those skills for years but lately there's been a serging (pun intended) interest in sewing once again.

    3. joyful,
Hemming clothes, sewing on buttons, ang generally maintaining clothes are valuable skills to possess. My older daughter takes things to someone to do these things. I think people have time once again.

  5. Good for you! I used to sew a lot- even made 2 flower girl dresses for my sister's wedding about 20 years ago...but in the last few years, I've lost interest. I think the last time i sewed was making Christmas aprons 5 or 6 years ago. I've never had a serger though- just an old Singer.

    1. Bab,
I use a 1955 Singer Mama bought secondhand for me in about 1975. Or, I use the Singer I bought in 1964 when I went away to college.

    1. One,
Thanks. If I make $400 worth of clothes, it has paid for itself.

  7. I was just about to brag that my sewing machine was older than yours when I got to your second one. I too, have a 1964 machine, a White. It was my mother's. Unfortunately, the sewing repair store in my town closed down and I have yet to really look for another.

    1. Anne,
The 1955 machine is even older and main thing I have used for 30 years. A good sewing machine repair shop is hard to find. I hope you find a good shop. Find out if the gears are metal or plastic. If they are plastic, don't even bother to try to fix it or use it. Only metal gears last.

    1. Rhonda,
If I did not enjoy serging, I would not have spent that much money. I do enjoy sewing so much. Reading and sewing are the things I enjoy most.
