One day, I purchased toilet paper that was in the sale ad at Publix. When I checked out, the toilet paper was higher than I expected. I commented that it was on sale for $6.49. The cashier assured me it was not, so I purchased it anyway at $9.99.
I thought it over and decided I was correct, but somehow the ad was discarded when it expired. All the while I was ill last week, I planned my next move. I had Tommy check with his credit card company and see when a purchase was made for a little over $10. With that information in hand, Sunday, I asked at the service desk if someone could find the receipt. Within minutes I had a copy of the receipt.
Then, I told the CS person the problem and asked her to find the receipt ad, she did. She produced the ad, and, sure enough, It was on sale. She gave me back a $10 bill and almost a dollar in change. It seems if the price is wrong in Publix, the whole amount charged is refunded. I was not aware So, I was able to hand Tommy almost $11. He was so happy to have money in his wallet. He never has money unless I repay something I have borrowed...lol.
When he bought cereal for me, it was bogo. However, the two boxes were rung up on the receipt with no evidence of bogo. I had paid full price for each. When I pointed this out, I received a little over $10 back. Good deal!
Check your receipts! Between us we received over $21. Plus, I have a large pack of tp and two boxes of cereal I did not have to buy. $$$ and free merchandise are my kind of deals.
Usually, I challenge the price when I believe it is wrong. If not, I go back to the shelf and check the price again. Very seldom am I wrong about what price I thought I saw.
Right now, I have receipts sitting here to challenge at a big box store. There are a variety of problems with them, so it will take more than just returning items.
Often, in the case of the toilet paper, I am tardy with my return.
Do you check receipts at the time of purchase or at home? Are you willing to take things back or challenge a price you were charged? Are you really happy to receive your own money>
We always check receipts from grocery shopping because more often than not there is a mistake in the store's favour. They have always been very good about correcting their mistakes - money returned with no questions or hesitation. Just the way it should be. Checking receipts is good practice.
ReplyDeleteGregg,
DeleteIt is a good practice. Often I am exhausted and there is someone there hurrying me along to help me out with the groceries. I did check the one Tommy bought, but even as I said I need to correct it, he just drove home. He said he did not know I meant right then. But, it got done. Yes, stores almost always make the mistake in their favor, but are still always good about correcting the mistake.
If I catch it while they are ringing it up, I bring it up. Sometimes I am walking out to my car looking at the receipt and realize I was charged wrong, so usually go back inside to the customer service desk. My most recent was the whiskey barrel planters I bought at a garden center. I went back to buy 2 more and realized the previous purchase they charged me for the wrong ones. I still had the receipt in my purse and they credited me back $23.
ReplyDeleteOne,
DeleteI did question the price of the tp. But, the woman just kept swiping things and telling me that I was wrong. Tommy assured me that he got the bogo. That was a good catch on the barrels. I remember your saying they were more expensive. It pays to keep receipts almost forever...lol.
I figure the recipet is given for a reaons-both documenting tha tI paid for something, and ocumenting theprocie paid, so should be reviewed. Errors happen, but then errors should be corrected. That's a generous policy at Publix.
ReplyDeleteSAM,
DeleteSo true. I have had cashiers ask me if I need a receipt when they run out of receipt paper. Of course, I do! I asked the woman who gave me the $10 and change why I got so much money. When she explained it to me, I was pleasantly surprised.
I am always on Albert-sons for not getting sales right and I make them reimburse me. I watch receipts carefully.
ReplyDeleteKim,
DeleteSome stores are worse than others. And, I find their mistake every time.
Good for you !
ReplyDeleteI should do this and I never do, thinking the time to check isn't worth the savings.
bad thinking, that.
Urspo,
DeleteThanks. Sometimes, checking is annoying, but I do anyway. Yes, bed thinking.
