Mentally, I feel much as I usually do. Tommy said for over two weeks I talked as though I had just gotten out of bed, that my voice was soft and sort of trailed off as I spoke. I can think. I can plan and carry it through. I can sleep at night and do not feel the need to sleep all day and into the evening.
Not once did I exercise/march
Today, for the first time in about a month, I went to a big box store. Before, I was afraid to go. Even so, today, I ran into three racks. LOL...maybe I am not 100%.
I tried to use Fetch again, thinking it was my brain not working. Well, my brain works now, and I still cannot use it. I need help.
I finally finished The Bird Way. Reading only as few as 4 pages some nights certainly did not make it a quick read. Now, I will start on Hillbilly Elegy. I have had this on my reading list for several years. Now, I will read it.
Now, I have a divot in my nose. I think it is very noticeable. Tommy calls it a dimple. Who ever heard of a dimple on the end of a nose. Well, it is off-center. If it had been skin cancer, it would have been much larger.
Tomorrow, I must pick basil if it has not bolted. It was scary to think of bending over on the porch when I was so medicated. I have a long list of items that I need to do!
Tommy has been really good to get his food and bring me endless things I have wanted. For over two weeks, I just got up to go to the bathroom. Tonight, we went through the refrigerator to see what went to waste. The list was short--celery and a bit of salad greens. I got to see what was in there to plan when to eat what.
I have calls to make and sugar water to make for the hummers, clothes to fold, painting, gluing and soldering (sort of), When you are discombobulated from being ill, do you have a list of things to do?
I am glad to read Mr Tommy was there to care for you.
ReplyDeleteUrspo,
DeleteI was grateful! I suppose I would have just sat here and starved...lol.
You did well to minimise waste during your illness, I find it takes only a matter of days for the fridge to get out of hand.
ReplyDeleteHow good to feel better and good to have no skin cancer. Long may it continue
kylie,
DeleteYes, the divot on my nose would have been larger if I had had cancer. It is amazing that it is the exact same place where my father, who I take after, had a cancer removed at about my age.
you should get the nose checked. husband had one and I made him get it checked .was basal cell cancer. easy to remove at the stage his was
ReplyDeleteAnn,
DeleteThe doctor did a biopsy on it and it was negative for cancer. The biopsy is why I have a divot.
Did the doc suspect a basal cell carcinoma? They have to dig deeper to get the tissue margins for that type of carcinoma. That's possible why you ended up with a divot.
DeleteSue,
DeleteI only know he did a tiny piece at first. Maybe it was deep, but he did suspect cancer. I will have to ask. Thanks.
I watched the movie Hillbilly Elegy and loved it. Books are usually even better though. The book light you recommended came this week and I love it. I also bought pink. Glad you're feeling a bit better.
ReplyDeleteLori,
DeleteI always love books rather than the movie. I get irritated at what was not in the movie and what they put in that was not in the book! I am glad you like it. It imperceptibly dims and leaves me with a very dim light. So, now I charge it before I realize it is dimming. It takes little time. I am going to get another one in a different color for the car. I am feeling much better as far as my concousness goes. Thanks.
Glad you are feeling more your normal self.
ReplyDeleteAnne,
DeleteThanks. "More like my normal self" is true. Pain came back, but I can think.
Yes, there is always a list of things to be done after something like this. I did laundry all day yesterday. I’m glad to have it done now.
ReplyDeleteBelinda,
DeleteNot fifteen-minutes ago, I looked around and wondered how long it would take me to get things to the state they were over two weeks ago. Too long...lol.
Glad to hear you are starting to feel better and sounds like Tommy is helping, which is so good.
ReplyDeleteOne,
DeleteAs long as he does not have to cook, he is okay with helping...lol.
Linda, earlier I shared my opinion that it often takes a long time to become accustomed to a medication. My statement was true but does not apply in every circumstances.
ReplyDeleteI want to congratulate you for recognizing that the medication you were given was not correct for you! We each have to monitor our own bodies and you are very attuned to yours and were wise enough to check with your doctor before stopping the Cymbalta cold turkey.
These days as we are aging so very many issues are cropping up. Stepping into this new season in our lives presents so many new challenges. In my case osteoporosis and arthritis are my main issues. I have 2 collapsed disks in my spine and have lost more than 3 inches in height. Additionally I have a bad knee.
Despite all these issues I feel able to care for John as he moves through his bout with dementia. While I have my aches and pains I currently feel up to the task of managing his care. Yes, some days (AND NIGHTS) are easier than others but at this moment we are all good.
Janet,
DeleteI could not care for myself, so I knew it was time to ask if I could stop.
Aging is not fun, so far! I have cracked and crumbling discs. No idea about the loss of height. So far, I only have a bit of arthritis from old age. It is not at all disabling. My knee is not in good shape and must be petted along to keep it from hurting and me from limping.
Every night I forget to contact you! At least, you are holding up to his needs. I suppose things might become harder. I hear nights get rough. Take care of yourself. Caregivers needs a respite.
During the last 4-6 years my vision became so poor I couldn't see to read & enjoy reading a regular book. I turned to audio books. My library offers free audio books! In the last year I have read (listened to ) 40 + books while working around the house, doing dishes, driving or simply folding clothes. I used to listen with ear buds but since John has needed more care I am hesitant to use them.
ReplyDeleteThe system that my Library offers electronically is called LIBBY. You should look into what is available to you. They offer both audio and visual electronic books. You may have to wait a couple of weeks for a title to become available.. I love the program but with John's issues I am hesitant to put in the ear buds for fear I might not hear his call.
Janet,
DeleteMy vision is so much better since the progressive lens had the division put at the right position! That is a lot of books and a good use of time. I don't blame you not using the earbuds since John might need you. Maybe I will look into this.
