Friday was quiet here, and we did not leave the house. Well, Tommy washed and dried clothes for me and got the mail. But, we went nowhere. And, it's okay. Now, I need to fold them.
We ate leftovers and I napped. He ate leftovers and watched TV. After the news we had leftovers again. And, I wanted to watch Christmas shows--How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, Five More Sleeps Til Christmas. Jimmy Kimmel wrote the book and was involved heavily in the movie. I won't ever watch a Hallmark Christmas story.
Tommy helped me by handing the dirty dishes to me to load in the dishwasher. Now, he is washing out two bowls that would not fit and the knives, and cleaning the sink. He usually wipes off the stove, too. Good man.
I checked Amazon and there are no cheap green beans. I can get them cheaper at the store and on sale of some sort. I also wanted Margaret Holmes collards or kale, the kind with nothing but water and the vegetable. No luck. The Margaret Holmes items in the store are Southern Seasoned, too strong, too salty tasting, too much sodium, and too much artificial ham taste.
It was a good day, no shopping, nothing but relief that there was no cooking to be done to get the meal we wanted.
What did you purchase on Black Friday, online or in stores? Was it crazy busy in the stores? I will live vicariously through you. Any good bargains?
No stores for me! Nothing is worth standing in long lines with zillions of other people breathing near me. Nope.
ReplyDeleteMy only Black Friday internet purchase was a fatigue mat for the floor between my kitchen and island. I have saltillo (Mexican) tile floor (not my idea; the original owner was crazy and tasteless) and standing on them all day is hard on my bones. Good mats are expensive so 30% off was sweet.
I did hear that Hulu is having a Black Friday 99 cent/month subscription offer. I do love to watch tv shows on Hulu. Hubs is looking into that deal.
Sounds like Tommy enjoys being a kitchen elf! A man that knows how to hand-wash dishes and who understands that the stove needs wiping is a rare jewel, indeed.
Tomorrow is all about processing that damn turkey. I stripped the carcass; now I have to package the meat for freezing, defat the drippings, and make stock from the bones and a big bag of frozen veggie trimmings I've saved. Do you plan to make stock with any of your turkey carcasses?
I have never tasted collard greens. I do like kale, but only fresh--especially baby kale. Although lacinato (dinosaur) kale makes mighty fine kale chips.
So why the ban on Hallmark Christmas movies? Too sappy?
Sue,
ReplyDeleteIf Tommy did not have wood floors, I would be in more pain than I am! When I have too much for the dishwasher, he will offer to was big things that won' go in the dishwasher. I think it is utensils and stuff that he hates.
A turkey is a lot of trouble! I have frozen one set of bones and have another to put in my stockpot. I like cooked collards, kale but not spinach.
Sappy. predictable, singleminded,,,gag inducing, mind-numbing.
May get hulu.
I stayed home yesterday too. Bailey went to a thrift store and got 5 pieces for &1.00 each. I’m ready for Christmas movies too. It’s so nice to not have to cook even if it’s just for one day, I’ll take it.
ReplyDeleteBelinda,
DeleteGreat score for Bailey. Well, I extended no cooking to two days. Yes, all mine to enjoy.
Glad you had a great Thanksgiving. I know how nice it is to have a day off from cooking but still eat well. I didn't shop on Black Friday as I've recently been doing a lot of shopping and not all parcels are received yet. It turns out that I have to return most of the items I purchased for one reason or another. It's okay though as there is always something else to fill the shopping gap if one can find a good bargain. I have a few items on my 'wish list' but nothing major.
ReplyDeleteJoyful,
DeleteI did no shopping, online or in person. Yet, I have packages coming! One came this morning, so i suppose I have packages coming all week. Well, one is Tommy's--needle pens. Oh, I could shop and order or fight for things at the store, but I won't.
Sounds like you had a good Friday. Rebecca and I went to the grocery store yesterday afternoon to get things for birthday party later today. Other than that all the shopping I did was online. I got the boys new winter coats as theirs are almost too small. Found ones at Old Navy that were 50% off with free shipping so that worked. Other than that I cleaned house, watched The Wizard of Oz, did laundry, and we watched the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol last night. Hope you and Tommy have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteRachel,
DeleteThat was a good day, shopping and otherwise. I tried to buy my kid's clothes on sale all the time. I want to see those two movies, too. Half way through the weekend, and I am exhausted, spent. It has been good.
We had a quiet day as well and did not leave the house (or the couch, for that matter.) My only purchases were digital comics because I could get $24.00 collections for $3.99.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on Hallmark movies. I watched my first few last year and they were nauseating. Curious people only need watch one, because if you've seen one Hallmark Christmas story, you've seen them all. (Almost identical plots and cheesy dialogue.)

Breenlantern,
DeleteThose were good deals! I don't know who watches those movies. I will look for some old classics, thank you.
Your Thanksgiving meal sounds lovely. I bought sweet potatoes after you & Kim talked about it so much...lol.
ReplyDeleteWe only went for a drive yesterday. DH wanted to go to the Asian market and then we stopped at RA. I never go to stores on BF (except drugstores).
Ms Goose,
DeleteThanks. It was good food and a great day. I hope you enjoyed the sweet potatoes.
Friday, I did not even want to go for a drive! I just knew it would not turn out good. That was not pessimism, just wanted to be home.
Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving and a relaxing day after.
ReplyDeleteLori,
DeleteThanks. I hope yours was as good.
we don't do Black Friday anymore except for a trip to the country pet food store. They have pet treats on sale and we get a few special things for our dog. We enjoy the ride and stay out of the city. Just not worth it. And our dog gets to come along with us.
ReplyDeleteAnn,
DeleteWe have our own routine and preferences, don't we? It sounds like a nice ride for all of you.
