I went to a store today, mistakenly thinking it was where I bought butter for $1.50/lb. So, I was wrong.
But, in the meantime, I had not discovered my mistake. On a table were a lot of items and a sign about a scholarship fund. I donated. A pile of Beanie Babies caught my eye. One, a skunk named Stinky, really caught my eye. Well, some of my money stayed there and the BB came home with me. I checked the internet and found lots of listings for Stinky right HERE. And HERE.
Of course, anyone can advertise anything for any price. If they are still listed, they have not sold at any price. I wonder. Prices run from $4.99 to $19, 999. Mine has the Ty tag but not the little plastic tag protector. No, I did not buy Stinky to make my fortune. If I could sell this, I could share it with the scholarship fund.
I bought these occasionally when they were given away at McDonald's in the 90s. I never set my sights on any one BB. I gave one to my grandson later, a bull, I think. There are around ten Beanie Babies in storage. So, you can see I was not very interested, just mildly.
At one craft show, a guy had made animals out of socks, calling them Rice Runts. Did you ever see those? They were rudimentary, painted on faces, just cute.
The grocery ads came out today and are not so great, at least not for me and what I need and want. And, butter for $1.50/lb. was in Cullman. I have been watching for cherries to go on sale. That may not happen. Halos were $5.99, too high, but we buy a bag and eat one each day.
Every night, before I go to bed I think the coming day through, make a list of things I need to do. Otherwise, I awake to nothing to do in my mind. This morning is one of those days. I wonder where the list disappeared.
At my home there were cats in the neighborhood. They liked to hunt in my yard. It was nothing to see cats all day long, if not in my yard, then in other yards. When I first moved here, I kept asking Tommy where were the cats. I have wondered for two years. Well, I found out. My friend said there was a lady who killed cats. Actually, she said there were two but one moved. Sooo, now I know. What kind of person does that?
Did you ever buy Beanie Babies? How are grocery ads this week at your stores?
Has to be some kind of awful person to kill cats. I didn't buy beanie babies but I remember my mom did buy quite a few back in the day.
ReplyDeleteOne,
ReplyDeleteI have had cats that were really pests, but I never considered killing one.
Has to be one majorly big piece of S**T to hurt an animal of any type. There is a special place for people like that - and it isn't a nice place!
ReplyDeleteNever bought Beanie Babies.
Cheryl,
DeleteI had two cats poisoned by a neighbor!
If I could buy butter for $1.50 a pound, I would buy 40 lbs and freeze it!
ReplyDeleteKim,
DeleteI have no idea why I only bought one pound except that it was going to be in the car for several hours...IN A COOLER. I instantly regretted it.
When son3 was young the beanie baby craze hit. He had several but they have since left the building.
ReplyDeleteAnne,
DeleteMine stayed in a box until I found one and gave it to my only grandson at the time. I will end up giving this away or selling it.
We had a cat shot by our neighbor ~ he admitted to it. Yes, there are some terrible people in the world. I still miss my boy.
ReplyDeleteNo deals to be had where I am. Prices only continue to go up.
Never got into those beanie babies, but I think my kids had a few given from aunts, uncles, etc.
Dime,
DeleteMy two cats had nursing kittens when poisoned. I grieved for years, but now the animosity for that woman lingers.
The beanie babies were such a draw for kids and some adults. I was marginally interested.
I go to sleep thinking of my list of things to do but in the morning i forget them all. Last night I wrote it down and I have done a few things!
ReplyDeletekylie,
DeleteJust before I read your comment, I asked Tommy what was it I wanted to do this morning. He has no idea. I had told him the two things I wanted to do. So, you described me perfectly. I do have a list, but I thought of two extra things and we both forgot them overnight!
Yes, my DH was all over those damn BBs when my kids were young. He kept insisting they'd be worth a fortune some day. Of course they aren't even worth what he paid. We have a 33-gallon garbage bag of them in the basement. I sneak a few into the trash when I think of it. The kids sure don't want them. He also has some ratty comic books he says are worth thousands. He gets annoyed when I remind him they are worth nothing until they are sold!
ReplyDeleteI haven't checked the grocery ads yet, but I need to go shopping today. We are running low on a few basics like flour and butter. Wish I could find it at $1.50/lb!
The beanie babies are worth nothing if kids play with them. Why don't you donate them a few at a time?
DeleteI wish I could find butter for $1.50/lb.!
I can't have cats as I am allergic but I love them. When we bought our first home the neighbor had a cat run, the owners of our house did not like cats and had the city make them put up the run. We did not have a problem so they took it down. Years later I had to go next door and tell them I think our dog caught and killed one of your cats. Their response, if the cat was stupid enough to go in your yard it is not your fault. Still broke my heart!!
ReplyDeleteNo beanie babies but plenty of pokemon cards. I had them all but got rid of them and then they came back in popularity. My grandson would have loved those cards.
Butter, I have about 10 pounds in the freezer at $1.49 a pound. I always stock up when there is a good prize. I probably had 20 pounds before the holidays.
There was nothing this week I needed to stock up so won't be shopping this week. Cooking this week, browned a bunch of hamburger, have a taco soup going. I have extra for spaghetti sauce, chili, pizza (homemade dough in the freezer) I have everything I need for these meals in the pantry and freezer. It just makes everything less stressful and everything is purchased on sale. Planning ahead is so good for budget when you are on social security. You and Tommy are doing a great job
Texas,
DeleteI would have hated my dog to have killed any cat, too. I never heard of a city making someone put up a cat run.
With the cards I bought Thursday, I only have about 20 beanie babies. Gifts!
There were no really good butter prices during the holidays, then I let this opportunity pass.
I have food cooking, hamburger meat cooked and in refrigerator, and need nothing to make meals. It is great to have bought everything on sale.
Oh that's terrible someone was killing the cats :( Years ago, our cat, Captain, disappeared. We searched high & low for him & were worried sick. There was a really creepy old guy that lived one street over. And I say he was creepy because he gave all of us the creeps daily. He would ride his bike up & down our street a few times a day while staring us down or would be trying to look in the windows if he walked by, it was bizarre & unsettling. The other strange thing was that you never saw him without these weird work gloves on - even in the middle of the summer, it was quite strange & we all had crazy theories about the gloves but it was the way he looked at us that gave us all major creep vibes. I made sure my daughter who was just a little girl back then, knew to never talk to him & to steer clear of him at all costs. Anyways, after knocking on all our neighbor's doors looking for our cat, we found out Mr. Creepy had a cat trap in his back yard and would bait it with salmon! His next door neighbor told us all about it & said he claimed it was to catch all the feral cats, even though there were NO feral cats in this area. She said she'd seen a big fat black cat (which sounded just like our missing cat) trapped a few days before. SO I had my husband at the time approach him & ask if he'd trapped our cat. Mr. Creepy told him he had caught a black cat but it was definitely feral & didn't have a collar & there was no possible way that it was our pet so to forget about it & leave him alone. We didn't believe him so we called Animal Services anyways & they said they did have a black cat they had picked up at that address so we went to see if it was our beloved Captain & sure enough it was! He even had his collar on!! So clearly Mr. Creepy just had it out for our cat :( We were upset and I asked how Mr. Creepy could get away with that & wanted to press charges but to my astonishment, the manager there told me that Mr. Creepy had every right to trap our cat & that WE were the ones breaking the law by letting our cat roam freely & that we could possibly face charges if someone complained!! I still can't believe that to be true but that's what I was told. Not sure who is able to control where their cat roams because I've never met a cat that listened to anything I said! Luckily Captain seemed to have learned his lesson about visiting Mr. Creepy's yard because he never disappeared again & no I didn't listen to Animal Services & continued to let him roam where he wanted - like I had a choice ha! ;)
ReplyDeleteBri,
DeleteI am glad you got Captain back. I think the person lied to you. I have had people tell me the law when that version suited the situation and an agenda. I would have checked elsewhere for that answer.
One summer, I did trap feral cats one summer, but I also let pets go. No one was ever missing cats in the neighborhood. I like cats. They are a pain in the neck when they rub up against pots on the porch and knock them off and break them. But, what are you going to do? They just do what they want to do. They tried to get my birds and I chased them away. I am very allergic to cats, but I have had outdoor cats.
We were very happy to get Captain back too!! He's still alive & kicking too, he's about 15 years now & lives with my daughter. You know you are probably right about that Animal Services manager lying to me! I simply ignored them & let Captain do as he pleased.
DeleteI have no problem with people who trap feral cats, they are doing the community and those cats all a service so thanks for doing that! You did it humanely I am sure & were good to let pets go. I like cats too. They can be a pain for sure though and naughty too! Captain had a penchant for knocking over glasses of water for some reason. He made many messes & broke many of my glasses. I don't miss that or cleaning the litter box either; that's the bonus of only outdoor cats, you don't have to deal with that mess!
Bri,
DeleteHe is a really old cat! Sometimes, they are not lying, just badly misinformed or assume that is the law. They don't have to be competent or bright to work there.
I used to feed the feral cats where they lived under the railroad bridge. Everyone in the district where antique and boutique stores were located. My sister's cat never would leave my things alone! I really want an outdoor cat, but I probably will never have one. They cost, too.
Yes, outdoor or not they still need food, water, and regular vet visits. And there will be more vet visits than with an indoor cat!
DeleteSue,
DeleteThat is why I don't have a cat!
No I have never bought a beanie baby
ReplyDeletethey seemed a scam
On the other hand I have kissed and actual skunk.
Urspo,
DeleteTommy never bought one, either. They were more of a gimmick. And, it worked. I would like to hear the skunk story.
