Finally, Monday night, Tommy removed the table from the car. It had been riding there for almost two weeks while I cleared space in the living room. I won't keep it here, but for now it works right n the middle of the floor.
I am drowning in paper. The few magazines I have are being passed on for someone else to read. Tommy is going to sort a huge bag of envelopes.
When I get my side of the room sorted, the room will be cleaned, hopefully this weekend, depending on whom I can employ. I think $15/hr should be enough. The problem I am having is that women first want to know how many sq ft in my house before they can come clean ONE room. Then, one woman said she would bring her sister so they could "knock it out," So, I never contacted her again.
This is not a job I want done as cheaply and quickly as possible. I want it done thoroughly. And, I find that haste does not make for efficiency.
Now, I need to figure out how to cook lentils.
Last night, I decided to cut my hair at 3 am. I got the sides cut, layered, so they did not look so draggy. I cut the bottom on the sides. Then, I carefully picked up the rest which was the back. As I sawed cut the back in one huge whack, I knew something was going very wrong. Well, I cut the back off 9". I think there is less than 3 " at the nape of my neck. And, from there it tapers to the front. This would be cute if it was what I wanted. It looks stacked. Not really, though, and I don't have the nerve to try to finish the look. Someone needs to stop me!
I had three scrambled eggs, one sausage patty, and 8 ounces of milk for breakfast at 8:30. It is noon, and I need to eat. NOW....
It has not rained in four or more days and the forecast is for another dry seven days, at least. I am so happy since sun is predicted for the whole seven days. We have a very few things to do outdoors, but at least it will be 60F or better.
Sounds like you two are making good progress with everything. Scrambled eggs sounds good. Maybe I'll do that for dinner, as I just bought some breakfast sausage links
ReplyDeleteOne,
DeleteThe progress is proceeding at a snail's pace, but it is happening. I love scrambled eggs. Tommy does not like breakfast for dinner. He never had it growing up.
Slow and steady wins the race!!
ReplyDeleteCheryl,
DeleteThat is what I am counting on!
BOil lentil for about 5 minutes. DOne.
ReplyDeleteKim,
DeleteThanks. I have never cooked lentils and have only eaten them twice. My friend's husband cooked them and my friend had no idea what he put in them.
It's great you are making progress on organizing the house.
ReplyDeleteJoyful,
DeleteIt is slow but it is progress. Thanks.
Just a step at a time if all we can do but some day we will get done only to have to start all over. I just try to be happy with what I do get done everyday. This week I was so happy I was able to get up on a step ladder and clean the ceiling fan in the den. I just look up now and smile. Just remember, the main thing is that you do the things that make you and Tommy happy.
ReplyDeleteTexas,
DeleteI do what I can. Okay, maybe I could do more..lol. But, I have managed to pull ahead a little each day. A clean ceiling fan is a joy!
Lentils are the easiest dried thing to cook! I cook mine in a thin broth.
ReplyDeleteGlad the table is inside now
Anne,
DeleteThanks for that. I have never cooked lentils, so was pondering what to do. I was going to look online. But, in the meantime I had decided a broth was the thing I would use. I guess I can stumble around and get this eventually. Sitting in the car and riding around caused a bit of damage to the table. Tommy likes it.
Indeed lentils are not hard to cook. I agree cooking the in broth not water makes them taste better.
DeleteUrspo,
DeleteI am getting excited about cooking them.
It sounds. like you are getting a lot of organizing done in your home. I need to get inspired from you. My living room looks bad right now. I still have Fuzzy's extra dog bed in the big box, but now it is setting next to a a box of semi-important papers, with a six pack of soda in bottles to weight that box down, with his regular dog bed jammed next to it,and on the other side of his good dog bed another paper filled box with a six pack of bottled soda on it to keep his dog bed edges from squashing down if Fuzzy leans too hard against it while he is sleeping. Lately he cozies up against the sides of his bed and all of a sudden he ends up rolling out on the floor and that scares him, because it is very hard for him to stand up. We are going to have to get him a new dog bed with stiffer sides. If he keeps doing well I will put his sickness sleeping box away. Everywhere in my living room looks just as awful as that. I know I won't be doing anything about it tomorrow, because I will be having my molar prepared for a permanent crown, so there will be a lot of drilling going on, and fitting the temporary crown and any dental work just wears me out. The dentist said it will probably take one to one and a half hours. I doubt if tomorrow will be a comfortable day for me.
ReplyDeleteI have ruined my hair so many times at those 2am - 4 am hours when it comes to me that something has to be done with my hair. It always turns into a disaster. Finally, so for about the past 6 months, I have learned to make myself sit down, relax, find something interesting on you tube, and keep myself from having another murder attempt on my hair. It looks like we may be heading for a bit of a let up on the cases of omicron around here. If I can just make myself hold out a little while longer,I will go to a hair salon and let someone who has been trained to cut hair give me a haircut. My husband's hair is so thick and wild, he needs a professional haircut soon. He has used some kind of electric clipper thing to cut his hair twice since covid started. We both need to do something soon. Our hair looks like caveman and wife hair.
Enjoy doing your outdoor projects tomorrow.
susie,
DeleteThe organizing sounds better than it is. Really, I can undo all the progress in one day, it seems. I wonder at the end of the day how it all happened. Maybe you can get a box the right size and cut it down to make a rigid place to place his bed.
I thought I was the only one who did this sort of haircut. There is not enough left to go crazy for a long time! I am afraid if I go have someone straighten it right now, they will finish the stacked bit in the back and cut off even more. We were headed to the wild caveman and cavewoman look.
You’ll get there!
ReplyDeleteApparently, this cleaning project is going to take a long time!
DeleteI LOVE lentils!! Red and yellow are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHow long you cook the lentils depends on what color they are. Here's a great article with lentil info and cooking times:

I would cook the lentils in vegetable broth, if you have it. Or just water. I wouldn't use chicken or beef broth unless it was part of a soup.
Sue,
DeleteThe only time I had lentils, they were all about the herbs and spices. Thanks. I will look.
PS: Funny, but I have a small demi-lune table that's been riding around in the back of my van for 2 weeks! I trash-picked it and plan to paint it black for my screen porch.
ReplyDeleteI love demilune tables! It will be a good porch piece.
DeleteI try not to cut my bangs but it seems like one day they are fine and the next too long and in my eyes. So a chopping I go. Then when I go to get a haircut I get that look like - who has been cutting your bangs. lol. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Crystal,
DeleteOh, I know the fine one day in stringy and in my eyes the next. I either do a good job on my bangs or mutilate them. My hairdresser pronounced them "perfect" one time and left them alone. but, she had seen them mutilated before, too.
