Saturday night, after 6 pm we bought milk, he watered the flowers and I started dinner. Dinner was a cheap sale box of Hamburger Helper that I thought might be a change of pace. Well, HH was awful. I think I bought two and now both are gone. I will never, ever buy that nasty stuff again. I had to put two cups of milk in it just to make macaroni and cheese?
Around 10 pm I emptied the dishwasher because there was nothing heavy and very little. He put everything away. A little after midnight we loaded it and started it. We work late...lol. So, everything was done but washing my hair.
Sunday night, we had leftovers--HH, slaw, and corn. I was going to cook a whole chicken and four packages of chicken--thighs, 2 chicken tenders, chicken filets. I will cook the chicken by itself and the four packages in a bag. I am not going to cook chicken Sunday night. When I do cook them, I will probably put 2 lbs of carrots and the bag of leeks in to cook with the chicken pieces.
Since I no longer have my hair claws/banana clips, I have nothing to get my hair off my face so I can wash it well. The bands are gone, too. I don't know why I have not bought more, other than I always forget. Then, when I see the prices, I am horrified. Today, I took a new child's t-shirt that I had and cut about three inches from the bottom. I made a loop and tied it to the length I need to put around my head to hold up all my hair. It works well. So, I did not have to spend money for bobby pins, plastic claw, or an elastic headband/scrunchy. All my bobby pins are hiding.
At the end of the day, Sunday, I think my abscessed (I think) tooth is why I am so lazy today. It has zapped my energy. Plus, I fear I may have to suffer through a root canal! So far, I have only had one root canal and that did not go well.
I did do things today--folded clothes, made peach cobbler, did piddling things that needed to be done. I did scramble six eggs for breakfast on Monday and Tuesday.
What do you use to keep your hair back when you wash your face?
I use elastic pony holders, when I an done I wrap the around the handle of my hair brush. I don't lose them that way.
ReplyDeleteTexas,
DeleteI cannot get enough hair in a ponytail holder. And, I don't use a brush. I think I have seen people with ponytail elastics on their hairbrush, though. You have a good system. I am not crazy about this strip of tshirt because it is a dark green. But. I can get hair out of the way.
Oh my gosh, It looks like Blogger has fixed the comments section. I’ve been trying to post on your blog for weeks now with zero success. This is so great!
ReplyDeleteBelinda,
DeleteGreat! I still have trouble on some blogs. I am glad you are back in comment mode.
My hair is short so it doesn't get in my face when I wash it. I do use stretchy headbands for sweatbands when out in the heat. Good remedy on making a headband.
ReplyDeleteCheryl,
DeleteI am going to cut the sleeves for ponytail bands, too. I always need a sweatband if i am out long in the heat. I have enough tshirt to make a few sweatbands, too.
I'm not trying to be bossy to you, but I wanted to let you know that it can be dangerous to have an abscess and just try to tough it out. My husband had some bad teeth that he just kept letting go, even though they were hurting him. I kept telling him he needed to go to the dentist and get them taken are of, but he wouldn't. After quite a while he became quite sick with high fever, vomiting and finally shivering and then the most scary of all he had spells of being delirious when his fever went real high, he was shaking all over and he was laying on the couch for a while and then woke up real sick and didn't know where he was. He went into the bed and laid down and then he became sicker than anyone I have ever seen. He lost control of his bowels and was talking nonsense, couldn't stand up. During the two previous weeks, where he had fevers and major stomach sickness I took him to two doctors. They both told him it was just a stomach bug. The first doctor was seen before he got real sick and I didn't go into the office with him so I don't know if my husband told that doctor how bad sick he was. The second doctor also said he had a stomach bug , I told her I have known my husband for 45 years and I had never in all of these years seen him so sick. She insisted it was just a stomach bug. That night was the night my husband got so bad off that he was having the fever and being severely delirious (like you see on the old WW2 movies when they would be in a cot laying under mosquito netting, and sick sweating bad, and delirious and talking out of their head). By 6 in the morning he was not even able to communicate with me. I called 911. They took him to the hospital where he spent a total of 14 days, 5 of the days in intensive care, it took them 5 days to find out what bacteria he had. They had to grow them in petri(sp?) dishes to find out. Meanwhile, they discovered a cyst on his liver and had to drain that. By that time they were giving him 4 antibiotics via IV hoping one would work. They added a fifth antibiotic and after a while took away one of the other ones. In the ambulance to the hospital his blood pressure kept dropping so low that they were giving him IV solution to keep it up high enough to live.
ReplyDeleteHe had sepsis! And that can be a deadly thing. .My daughter who is an RN looked at the blood pressure numbers, and other medical information and said to me that her Dad came real close to dying, especially in the ambulance. During the days he was in intensive care they kept asking questions trying to find out what he might have been exposed to, finally they asked something about his teeth and I told him yes he has some bad ones. It turns out that the bacteria that finally showed up was one that is often associated with sepsis and could have even caused the cyst on his liver. My husband very rarely drinks alcohol, and doesn't smoke. When he finally got to come home he had to wear a tube that went from his elbow or shoulder (I can't remember now) it is called a PIC, which went through the vein with a tube with the antibiotics that he was on for another two weeks to a vein/artery that is near the heart.
I am certainly not the person to lecture anyone about getting to the dentist (because I put it off), but if you think you may have an abscess
I think you would be safer getting it taken care of.
I never try to tough out tooth pain! LOL...you don't know me. I have had this appointment and had to cancel twice because of stuff. That is a horror story about your husband. My ex always played down how ill he was, even when he was screaming in pain from gall bladder. He toughened up and told the doctor in the middle of the night he was not too sick. I had called the doctor at home. I took the phone back and told him the racket he was making. He told me to take him to the ER. At the hospital, my husband begged them to take his gall bladder right then...lol. I was just afraid that is what I would be told. I had a surprise abscess 18 months ago, and don't want that problem again. Thanks for that story.
DeleteClever lady! The fabric band is a great idea. I use plastic headbands for face washing, or a hair clip.
ReplyDeleteTo wrap my wet hair after a shower, I use a t-shirt, cut in half (so I have a complete front or back, with the sleeves). I can't use a regular towel because terrycloth fuzzes up my naturally curly hair. Smooth cotton is not as abrasive.
Do you use an ultrasonic toothbrush? I find they are essential to ward off gum/tooth issues. I also rinse with a dental mouthwash before bed. I have teeth that really need to be babied--my gums go to hell in a handbasket if I dare to skip a few days of flossing.
My mother taught me that massaging the gums around a bothersome tooth often helps ward off bigger problems. She claimed that it brought increased blood flow to the area. I know it has worked for me!
Sue,
DeleteMy straight hair is hopeless, so just about anything works to wrap it when wet. I never heard of using a tshirt, but if it works...
I was going to get one, but never could figure out what to get. So, I sort of forgot about it. What brand do you use? Mine don't have to be babied, but I take very good care of teeth and gums.
Actually, I have been massaging the gum area and it makes it feel better. I suppose I did it to keep making me aware of where it hurt, and then it quit hurting so bad.
PS: You hated the HH? DANG! I just bought a double-sized box that was super cheap on sale. I was feeling nostalgic; as kids my brothers and I would have inhaled that shizz. Now I'm afraid to make it for the fam...
ReplyDeleteI think this is the second one I have had lately and one many years ago when the kids were little. Maybe you will still like it.
DeleteI have had like 3 root canals. The first one was so awful, I swore I'd never do it again. I had a different endodontist the second two and even though the last one ended up being more involved then she expected (I had extra roots!), the experience at that office was so much better.
ReplyDeleteI went to an endodontist the only other time. This time, my regular dentist is going to do it. I hope I am not making a mistake not going to an endodontist. Extra roots, not good.
DeleteLinda, I would strongly suggest an endodontist for your root canal! You want someone who does dozens of root canals per week, not per year. Someone who has seen it all and won't be surprised by your "extra" roots. My regular dentist has always referred me for root canals. He nor anyone else at his practice will do them because it's not in their wheelhouse! A Ford mechanic is not going to do well digging around under a Mercedes hood...
ReplyDeleteI don't need a root canal, just a crown.
DeletePS: I use this toothbrush and love it. No bulky recharge unit, different settings (I use gentle) and a 2-minute timer to make sure you brush long enough.

Thanks, I will look into that. I really need one and have been unsure what was a good one.
DeleteMy hair is fairly short so I just use hair clips if needed.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Jan,
DeleteI have never had hair clips, but I could use those, too. My hair is long. Bangs are long. It is hard to restrain sometimes.
