Tommy put all the bacon on a pan I covered with parchment paper and put it in the oven. Then, he went out to water. I checked on it. He came in and went to check it. He came back into the living room and told me it was "very dark and shrunken." I rushed in to rescue the burnt bacon. I only succeeded in ripping the bacon out before it went totally black. Aaargh! My rushing was a fast limp. I did not fuss because it was his first view of bacon cooked in the oven.
I told him to take things out, that we can return it to oven if it needs cooking more. The blt was not so pleasant with burned bacon. I will buy another package of bacon tomorrow and we will try again. His toast which he made himself was burned, also. I turned down the toaster so mine was only brown. I love toast but have not had any in a year.
We have not eaten a tomato despite having had market-bought homegrown tomatoes since Saturday. I want a good blt before they go.
Sunday, I mentioned to Tommy, "Didn't she say she was coming to clean Tuesday or was it Monday?" He immediately turned and said loudly, "Why is it that you cannot remember "anything?" Well, I was ready to murder him because he is the one who cannot remember, so he always verbally demeans me until we find what he says he "put right here." Well, no, it is still in the car despite his clarity of the memory. I never, ever turn on him when he cannot remember correctly!
So, I got up early this morning because I was hot, suffocating. Then, it was too late to try to get sleep, so I stayed up. She did not come! Most certainly, I was correct. She is coming Tuesday. Finally, at noon I went to bed and took a looong nap--4.5 hours.
While I slept, he washed and dried two of his blankets that had been lying in a corner for three years. He slept much later than I did, so he is not being overworked...lol. These are in garbage bags, sealed at the top so dust won't get it.
While shopping for the bacon, I found a brand that is low sodium. It probably has extra sugar! No, I checked. It has 0mg sugar.
Tommy carried the bags of clothing he is giving away to the car. So, it looks even better in here. We carry away lots of bags to recycle or donate from this house. I cannot imagine how the house would be if we left all this in here. Plus, we organize a bit on our own, not relying on the cleaner for every little thing.
Until I had dinner about 7 pm, I had only eaten two scrambled eggs and about 10 ounces of milk. Since 7 pm, I had the blt and all the innards for another sandwich minus bread, sort of a salad. Just now, I had an apple. Then, I had some ice cream. I try hard!
I cook all of my bacon in the oven, usually 3 pounds at a time and undercook it for freezing. When we are ready to eat it I take out the number of slices we need and zap them in the microwave until they are crisp. It works well for us.
ReplyDeleteAnne,
DeleteThat is smart. I might need to do that. Thanks.
We all burn the bacon sometimes. I hate to be with out it in the freezer. I stock up when it is a loss leader.
ReplyDeleteEveryone who lives with someone has those instances that they can't remember something. At least you have each other to ask. I keep a white board that I can write important things on so I see it everyday. I also have a calendar or appointments written down.
Texas,
DeleteI know, but that is no comfort when it was our first blt! I was so disappointed.
He seems to think I am senile and when he cannot remember, it is because of something I said or did that made him forget. It is infuriating. It seems he does have me to blame no matter who forgets. If I ask him, he says I can remember nothing anymore. so not true. His favorite thing is telling me I worded the question wrong. Then, he schools me on how to talk and ask a question--next time you should say...whatever.
I have a package of regular bacon on the refrigerator freezer door, but the thought of standing there in front of the stove frying it and getting popped on my hands at least once, and then having to bacon grease on the walls, the stove, the back part of the stove, makes me not want to cook it. Before the precooked bacon came out, I used to cook the regular bacon in the microwave . But it dried the bacon out too fast if I didn't really keep an eye on it. I am spoiled rotten by the expensive precooked bacon that they sell at Save a Lot (a small chain food market) its expensive, but so easy. I put the bacon layered between paper towels and pop it into the microwave for just a minute or a little more. It is precooked, and sliced very thin. It is more costly than regular bacon, about $4 a package (it has come up in price like most everything else), but to me it is so worth it. No popping grease and no stove and wall cleanup. I would have to take three different turns cleaning each area separately and getting off my lymphedema leg before it swelled more. The precooked bacon is really hitting the spot on my bacon and tomato sandwiches with fresh Miracle Whip. The only drawback is that I have no bacon grease left to use for cooking anything. The tomatoes this year have been so tasty around here.
ReplyDeleteIt's raining hard here and some lightning and thunder which scared our new puppy the first time but as the lightning continued, my husband and I both laughed real big about it and said. woo that was a good one, and did our best to act like it was a happy good thing. Little Fritzi had calmed down about it by the last strike of lightning and thunder and would only look up from her nap but not be scared. We will repeat that for a while anytime there is a storm to teach her not to be afraid of it. Hopefully the electric won't go out because she is as black as ink. The only thing we would be able to see of her would be her shiny teddy bear shoe button eyes. It's no telling what she would get up to in the dark.
susie,
DeleteStanding is a problem with my back! The popping and cleaning is not something I am willing to do. Even with a lid on the pan, there is still cleanup. i occasionally bought the pre-cooked, but thought that I could do this. Well, obviously not. These are the first freshly picked, not supermarket tomatoes we have had.
You can get a cap gun or one of those little poppers to use when there is no thunder to train the dog to not be afraid. You use it as you feed the dog, so it associates food, good thing, with the pop. If you were going to hunt with your little Fritzi, you could take her outside with a big gun...lol. The funtime actions may work instead of a cap gun. Buy her a collar or bandana or something that glows in the dark so you won't step on her. It's funny that she would be free to chew anything in the dark.
The thunder rumbles in the distance here for the last few days with no rain. We got two drops on the windshield yesterday.
Unfortunately, Bacon can burn easily from experience. BLTs sure are good at this time of year though. Very refreshing! I hope your next try is better.
ReplyDeleteBelinda,
DeleteNext time, one of us should pay attention. It is not the first bacon I have burned, but it is the first whole pound I have burned! Today, we do it right. I don't want these farmer's tomatoes to go overripe. I have bought from this one guy from years.
Sounds like quite the day.
ReplyDeleteI had a busy day yesterday! I worked, then ran several errands.. gas ($3.89/gallon; $.12 cash back), Target drive up, Dollar Tree (bought 10 cards & donations), Trader Joe's (picked up flowers for two co-workers) & Chipotle.
Jane,
DeleteIt does sound like you had a busy day after you had worked all day. We don't have any cash-back deals here other than Tommy getting cash back for credit card use which amounts to about $.25/gal.
I use this app for cash back here at home & when we travel. Amounts & locations vary, but worth a look!
DeleteCopy/pasted: Click this link or use promo code 4ATJDH to get an extra 15¢/gal bonus the first time you make a purchase: https://upside.app.link/4ATJDH
I'm up to $81.17! 💰
Tommy does not have a phone to use it. So, maybe mine?
