Great Gas Prices!

Today, I had a doctor's appointment. It took so long! So, we were out of the house by 1 pm. We were both very excited to see gas below $4. Okay, $3.98/gal. is good enough and heading in the right direction. We were home by 5 pm.

Doctor needed blood to make a decision about my care. I would not be mentioning this except for the fact that she found the vein, it held and the whole thing was successful. Usually, my veins are invisible, roll away, blow up (whatever that means), or the nurse is mean. Probably not a nurse.

The day is almost gone. Thank goodness, there is plenty of food that we can eat without any effort other than dishing it up and microwaving. That fact alone makes this a good day!

Cheap gas, good blood draw, and food cooked--the trifecta of happy.

Since I had a restless night and little sleep, I want a nap, but will stay up and go to bed around midnight.

Yesterday, I bought another 4 quarts of strawberries, so I suppose with all my free time this evening, I should get those washed and hulled.

Monday, I looked over the ads for the next week, Wed through next Tuesday, and so far, there is nothing great on sale or bogo. Oh, the only thing right this minute that interests me is a sale of some sort on Miracle Whip. How many I buy depends on the date on the jar.

Have you found anything exciting in the grocery ads?

Do you veins cooperate?

What is the price of gas in your area and where are you?

  1. Strawberries a pound for 99 cents is a good deal. Especially when the frozen strawberries at the same store were 2.67 for the same amount. I washed, cut and froze mine in a layer. Saved money and had two pounds! Happy you are having a trifecta of a day!

You had a good day, too. That is a great price. I hope to freeze two quarts of these. Maybe not...lol.

  2. Gas still over $4 but less than $5 something like it was. Going down, Nothing much in the ads - won't be going again that I know of. We will see.

    1. Cheryl,
I wonder if the ads will ever recover. At least, shopping in my kitchen will be cheaper for a long while.

  3. I got into my doctor today. I have been having problems with things and just communicating through his nurse. I somehow got a huge half dollar size blister on the top of my foot and the area around it had turned bright red overnight and was hot. I have diabetes and was worried about infection and possibly losing my foot. So I got in to see him. He prescribed a diuretic two times a day and potassium and a strong antibiotic for 10 days. So I was right to make sure I got in to see him today and very lucky that I did. Now I will pretty much be within 25 feet of my bathroom until the dose is cut on this water pill though. I consider it reallyy lucky that I got in to see him today.

I have to make a grocery list today so my husband can go shopping in the evening. It's too hot here to shop in the daytime. We didn't get our weekly store ad yet this week, so I will have to check what's on sale at their online site. I like seeing it in the flyer ad better. I'm not using the oven when it is this hot, it makes our house too hot in the late afternoon. I don't cook at night because I don't like cooking odors lingering in the house all night long. The last time we bought Miracle Whip, we got a smaller size one because since I am the only one who uses it, those big jars smell like latex paint to me as they get toward the bottom, I figure if it smells like latex paint, I'd best not put on in my bacon and tomato sandwich. In this kind of weather there isn't much that sounds appetizing to me except bacon and tomato sandwiches, honeydew melon, chicken salad, and popsickles. I try to cook something three or four times a week, but his time of year, it is hard for me to come up wih stuff we like. I think I will make spaghetti and meatballs tomorrow or the next day. And homemade taco's with soft tortillas. We like using 90% lean ground beef, it costs more , but we like the taste better. Other than that my menu for the week is not planned yet.
My husband got the tank filled in the car today. He said the prices had come down a little, but I didn't ask how much.

Once in my life I had veins that were hard to get. The woman tried 3 times, and I said this isn't really working, is it. She said no it isn't and went and brought back the main blood drawing person, she got it first time. The problem was that I was severely dehydrated and sick from cdif. Knock on wood, they have always found my vein easily other than for that time. I can' imagine what that would have been like for a person who is afraid of needles.

Have a nice day. Stay cool.

    1. susie,
The condition of your foot worries me. I had a mosquito bite that I scratched and it got infected. It went from not so troublesome looking to bright red, infection on top and hot. The doctor left the room after one look, came back with nurse to dress it, gave me a tube of antibiotic and prescription for another tube and antibiotic by mouth. I am terrified of getting an infection, needing wound care or losing a limb. So, I understand. Any little break in the skin and I am on it immediately since I was diagnosed with diabetes. Finally, I have convinced Tommy that small and large breaks in the skin need attention.

I am not up to cooking often! Amazingly, the kitchen has never been even warm even after marathon cooking. The kitchen is on the back of the house and the ac vent blows across the front of the oven and sort of onto his coffeemaker. Of course, the front of the house is blazing. So, the ac has to be cold to be able to breathe in there.

In 1968, after my first child, I had sepsis from kidney infection. Veins rolled. Since then, I have had trouble with nurses getting to my veins, especially when I have to not eat or drink after midnight. I am not at all afraid of needles, just that they will have so much trouble finding one. Jabbing me is never a problem, it is the dragging the needle around trying to find a vein, the anticipation of that is what upsets me.
Walk slow and stay in the shade.

  5. I am only walking in the house, and then not too much, so I can keep the blister from leaking so much fluid from it. I went through all of my gauze and had to use the one gauze pad I had left and I put one of those thin sanitary pads on it to soak up all of this lymphedema
fluid until I could get some more gauze.
Yesterday I had to wear two of those thick hospital socks on my blister foot to go to the doctor, and my legs are sore from walking like that with a shoe on one foot and thck socks on the other.
I won't be going anywhere until that blister is pretty well healed. I can't figure out where the blister came from. My shoe has a strap up higher, and the blister part was in the space between the shoe strap and where the curve of the top of the shoe is. The doctor put me on some antibiotics with clout, I take one big old horse pill of them two times a day. I am also trying to take 2 probiotic pills a day, too. Hopefully it will keep c diff away.

I am sorry to hear you went through sepsis, and I am happy that you survived it. Sepsis is a dangerous thing. My husband came close to dying from it.
I am just trying to keep positive and think how good it will be when I have this fluid away from my heart, and my blister healed, but I fear the blister is going to be a while in healing. Walk slow and stay in the shade sounds like the motto for this screaming hot summer. I usually go to bed just after sunrise, and the last thing before I go to bed is to stick my head out the front door to see whats going on with the squirrels, rabbit, my favorite birds, and see if I can see any hummingbirds. I like feeling the morning air to see if I can tell what kind of day it will be. Here lately, it is already hot at dawn around here.

    1. susie,
Those kinds of blisters are not from any abrasion. They equally as dangerous. It sounds awful to experience. I had blisters all over my feet and legs and was terrified. I was afraid one would burst and I would get an infection. But, they just stay there. The dermatologist said it was not a regular blister. He said it was oil! They come and go, mostly stay.

Hopefully, you have gotten a wheelbarrow full of gauze for your foot. I keep a small supply of gauze, but not enough to handle something for a long time.

Long ago, when I slept at daybreak I would open the door and see the day. It is full of early day smells and birds. The only animals I could see were usually little chipmunks eating my wild strawberries! It is hot all night here, high 70s.

Let me know how you are. Get better soon.

  6. I have the same issue: bad veins. Always takes an expert to draw blood or place an IV. If I get away with only two sticks, it's good day.
