Short Saturday

I was looking over the broken china and may have a problem. Most of the designs that can be used are around the base/rim the plate sits upon. There is a lot of flower area that I can use. But, it seems the butterfly, ladybug and bee are on this thick area. Rae, how did you handle this? Or, anyone else?

My sleep pattern is back to normal, not sleeping until 6 am and then sleeping until after 3 pm. When it gets dark early, sleeping most of the day does not leave much time to be productive.

One futile trip to drugstore and a productive trip to The Pig were all we had time for and then stayed out after dark with those two short trips. Tommy needed Diet Pepsis, so this was the cheapest we could find around here. I got a quarter dog toy for Lynda's dog, bologna, slaw mix with coupon, and a free bag of cereal which we will give to Lynda.

Dinner: two hamburgers broiled with two zucchini, leftover mashed potatoes. I had my burger plain and half an apple. Tommy had his on a bun.

I have not heard from the woman who cleans, so I have no idea whether she is coming or not! I hate I will have to get up early and she might not come!

My new healthcare plan is failing already. Anyone heard of or uses United Healthcare?

Does anyone know about using the rim of plates for broken China projects?

  1. Yes, I also am up for most of the night, go to bed at 4, 5 6 AM, sleep until afternon, It makes me crazy, so fast between the time we get up, the sun goes down, Our bodies still react, we can't sleep but somehow feel tired so we don't get things done.

I have never had United Healthcare but they have a big building here about 2 miles away, think it is the corporate headquarters, My Mom had them as her medicare advantage plan. Never had a problem. They will be one of the companies I look at when I start Medicare. Right now I have coverage through the federal government as the widow of a postal worker. When I am eligible for medicare I will have to decide to keep the federal coverage or if an advantage plan would be better. An advantage plan might be cheaper for premium cost but not offer as good coverage as the federal plan. It is so complicated. Why does everything have to be such an ordeal, require so much research. I should not fuss, I have options that some don't.

Can't help with the dishes, I am not a crafty person. I am on the other side, I buy things that someone else makes that strike my fancy, These days, I must admit, I have not seen things that make me want to spend my money. There a lot of cute wonderful things out there but I realize that I don't need them. Have a great Sunday!!

    1. Texas,
I had never heard of it until two months ago. They talk like they are new, getting plans rolling, and such. Yes, you do have options. I think bureaucrats make the rules complicated so we will give up...lol.
Things that I see that I might want are always so expensive. I don't have cheap tastes some days! Then again, cheap works. I see lots of cute things that I would never consider buying. Right now, I want a piece of macrame like one I used to have, but it is so expensive!

  2. I had United Health for years - now Anthem for Medicare supplement.
I can't report on good or bad. I have not used insurance other than getting cataracts done for years.

I thought it was something new! But, it has been around since 1977. My card I got does not work and they are having problems with all the upc on their cards. I am going back to old plan.

  3. I'm no help on the china, not a crafty person. It sounds like a nice hobby for you though. It is curious why you can't sleep overnight- I hate sleeping once sun is up as It gives me a headache.

    1. SAM,
I have no idea why I cannot sleep. It is not the night that keeps me awake. I finally pass out of exhaustion. I put something over my eyes or I could not sleep.

  4. My Dad had United Healthcare, but it was through his Carpenter's Union, so may have been different from what you are looking at. He never had any problem with it.

    1. susie,
My only problem is that it does not work! When I am told by the company it is good at all CVS and the one I use does not accept it, that is a problem. Also, I was told the upc does not work, but the number under the upc is good. Stores are confused, too, not just with me but with many customers.

  5. I had United Healthcare years ago, and had similar issues when we first enrolled, with the card/group #. I am afraid there's going to be nothing for it but to grit your teeth, and call. As for the china, I would throw it away. I know my limits in crafting. I have a cabinet full of cardmaking supplies, a closet full of quilt fabric, and a box full of beeswax ingots, wicking and candle molds. With the exception of the candle making supplies, I doubt I'll ever work through the rest of the supplies, to the point that I'm thinking of culling them yet again. Two moves in three years certainly helped to minimize our possessions, but we still have A LOT of stuff. Stuf, stuff, stuff. Even if it IS neatly stored on shelves in closets, I still know it's there.

    1. Meg,
Was the insurance worth the bother?
I understand. I won't give up on the China yet. We will see. I gave paper craft material away a long time ago because it mocked me. Thanks for insurance info.

    2. As it was our primary insurance, yes, it was worth the bother. It was mid 2000's, and while the health care providers (doctors offices) would call to clear up the issue, getting prescriptions filled was a huge hassle--I'd have to pay, then file for reimbursement, so, yes, the phone call was well worth the hassle.

    3. Meg,
Thanks. I hopefully don't have to pay and then call for reimbursement since they did not tell me that, just register and i am covered.

  6. My mom had United Health care under medicare advantage and no problems. Call Member services and explain. Maybe you need a new card. Good luck, Janie

    1. janie,
They did say I needed a new card and are sending me one. But, the fact the card cannot be used as they said is what is annoying me. The upc does not work, but the number should if it is typed in...what they said, is not true. Maybe a new card will clear this up. Still, why one CVS won't take it, a stand alone and another stand alone further away will take it.

  7. I've had United Healthcare for years. I haven't had any problems with them. My coverage for prescriptions is through another company and that can be a pain. I can only use CVS if it's a stand alone store. not a CVS inside Target or a grocery store. I don't know why as there are an over abundance of Walgreens.

Thanks for the response. Sometimes, the rules for insurance companies are baffling!

  8. If you have the right cutters, you can sometimes cut the back, thicker piece off enough to be able to use it. Other people use a dremel tool with the proper file to grind it down. I've used a chisel and a hammer with some success. Regardless of what you try or not, please wear goggles and do not hold the piece with your hand, but use a pliers with the tips wrapped with a piece of cloth. It will keep from damaging the piece and will help keep it from slipping out of the pliers. Ranee

    1. Rae,
Thanks! I don't have dremel tool, but I will soon...lol. Oh, I do intend to wear goggles! And, I have no desire to drill my hand, so I will hold it properly and safely. I will probably just sew a piece of cloth to the pliers to keep it all very safe for my hand and the pliers. I may not be able to hold pliers and cloth together with the way my hands can be. You have certainly been a great source of information to me. I was discouraged when I saw all the best parts or a lot of them were on the heavier rim. Now, I have new hope for this project.

At least you can complain to your bosses who will pave the way for you if there is a problem. Read Sunday post, next one.
