Eating Almonds and Russetnorkotah

Eating almonds right now. I am not particularly fond of almonds, but I am eating them because they are here and they are good for me. Almonds are better than walnuts. I am not allergic to them as I am some other nuts. I prefer pecans. Any recipe I make, no matter what nut it calls for, I use pecans. Of course, I love cashews, but of course, I am allergic to cashews. So, pecans it is for me. I don't know why I am talking about nuts except I am eating these almonds.

Somehow, we cannot find the hair clippers I used enough to pay for them. Finally, yesterday, I bought a new pair and they were corded. So, those go back. Today, I bought a new pair for only $13--Wahl. I finally got to cutting his hair around 5 pm, way too late for me. He is throwing a hissy fit because I got it too short. No, it is longer. So, he says he will just keep going to the barber. Usually, it is so short that you can see his scalp through his hair around the back and his ears, too short in my opinion.

Now, I used the 1-inch spacer. Usually, I use the 1/4-inch spacer. So, his hair looks and is fuller. I have no idea what comes over him! I think he is hungry.

I forgot to have him trim my hair, but it is too late. He shook the sheet we had on the floor. And, my walker is back in the car. Maybe I will do it myself.

I am not sure whether I mentioned it, but one good bogo at Publix was McCormick spices this week. Otherwise, the pickings are slim in the bargains.

For dinner I am baking chicken, potatoes, carrots, celery, and onions. When I am at a low point, it is nice to have the onion powder and garlic powder. We will have a salad with Romaine, carrots, Brussel sprouts, red cabbage, savoy cabbage, and other stuff which I cannot remember. We rarely use salt on these baked meat and vegetables.

What did you have for dinner? What have you planned to cook the rest of the week? Have you ever had or heard of Russetnorkotah?

Russetnorkotah--a potato. Why the name? What is up with this? Glad you asked. READ HERE.

  1. Okay, you got me confused, did you find the old clippers, buy some then you took them back because you had the old ones. I just use a pair of scissors but I am not cutting trimming a man's hair. I will add that I need to buy a new dog clipper. The ones I had are burnt out, not strong enough for the big dog (chow.) They do indeed pay for themselves after a couple of uses.

Tell Tommy not to be upset, it is just hair, it will grow back! We are should all be past the stage of being bothered if it gets cut a little short.

We have good deals this week on beef roast, chicken breast and I have a special for the bacon I like. I will get some of each to restock the freezer.

I love walnuts and pecans and will normally buy what I can get at the best price. I also love brazil nuts, they are supposed to be good for you. I have to order them from Amazon or at Sprouts where they have them in bulk. They can be pricey so I do not have them often.

I have not decided what to cook, either a roast or a chicken casserole of some sort. Have a great Monday!!

    1. We got a pair of clippers that I used several times. Now, I cannot find them. So, we bought a pair that has a cord. He will take those back. Then, I bought the really cheap pair. So, we have a lost pair, a wrong pair, and the pair I used to cut his hair.
His hair is longer than I have ever left it and he has always liked it. It is NOT too short. Not short at all. I have no idea why he gets so fussy.

That sounds like a good week of meat meals. Great.

I am allergic to Brazil nuts, and that makes me sad. The last pecans i bought cost about $5 for a pint. Pricey!

Either of those will be delicious.

  2. The Russet Norkotah sounds like an extremely poor variety of potato. It's not disease resistant, doesn't recover well from hail, and is susceptible to blights, soft rot, early dying, and silver scurf. And it also apparently can't survive weeds, so it requires spraying.

It hardly sounds like a reliable variety to risk all your farming income on. Why the heck do potatoe producers even grow it?!
I mean, does it taste like Ossetra caviar or something?

    Have you had one, Linda?

    1. Sue,
This is my second bag. The taste is unremarkable.

  3. I love pecans, but I figure it is what we have most often because they grow so well around here.

    1. Anne,
I grew up in Jackson, MS and Memphis, TN with about 8 pecan trees at each place. We ate a lot of pecans, so love them.
