Catch Up and Blanket

Eventually, I catch up my sleep and have a good day afterwards. I got four hours, woke up, watched tv for a couple of hours, maybe only one. Then, I slept for a good five hours. Then, I felt like a million dollars. Feeling this way is important for several reasons. One--I can think. Two--I just really need the sleep like we all do. Three--I am assured that I am capable of feeling good and energetic, that my present state of pain and lethargy are not permanent. Of course, the fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are always there, and I don't feel normal for long.

Finally, I found, rather Tommy found my little Ninja smoothie maker. But, the bottom part, the electrified part is still missing. I have no idea if the cleaner moved it or it got tossed. So, I will buy another if I can find the right one. At least, I will have more of the cups to use.

For dinner tonight, I put in a four-pack of boneless, skinless, chicken thighs, and a 3-kabob pack of chicken, peppers, onion. I had to use a turkey bag because there were sooo many vegetables--potatoes, carrots, squash. There was a six-pack of thin breasts that I put on the eye in a skillet because I knew the long cooking time might dry them out.

Tommy has three more dinners of thighs. I will have three dinners of breasts. There at least three days of vegetables. Plus, I need to cook pumpkin and cinnamon tonight. A can of vegetables comes in handy when there are few vegetables left that are cooked.

There are still two huge packages of chicken tenderloins thawing. It seems the planning and cooking never end.

I need another wool blanket. The one I bought, the ETSY USMC stamped blanket is just too small. I considered buying another, but I decided against that move. The ones online that are 100% wool from manufacturers are exorbitantly priced. My next plan is still under construction in my brain. When I get it formulated, I will reveal it. Does anyone have any other ideas or recommendations for wool blanket?

  1. I believe the USMC wool blankets are twin size or maybe a bit smaller to be used on a "Cot" or "Rack" or whatever they are called in that branch of the service.

    1. Janet,
Yes, I surmised they were smaller than twin and for short people! I believe it is a 'rack.'

  2. Frankly, my second hand Hamilton Beach blender, which (pretty sure it's circa 1975) does everything a smoothie maker can do, and more. I bought one for $3.00 at our local thrift shop recently, to give to Girl, who had just gotten her first apartment. Her mother had given her a huge bag of frozen fruit for smoothies, but she had no way to make smoothies...or anything to drink them out of for that matter. Prior to getting my FGSVA attachment for my Kitchenaid, I had a neighbor over so I could teach her how to make applesauce--peel apples, cook apples, blend, process in pressure canner. DH, seeing our method, took it upon himself to run down to the thrift shop while we were working, and came back with a blender to speed things up. Neighbor took it home, because she said it was so much more useful than her fancy-shmancy Magic Bullet.

    1. I have a red Hamilton Beach blender from 1972 that my mother gave me, glass pitcher instead of plastic. It worked for about 26 years until it started leaking because a gasket. The company will NOT sell me the gasket, but will replace it for free if I mail it to them and pay postage back. I never had the money, about $50 back then. This was a gift, so no choice in the brand, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Now, I have to find a base or replace it.

  3. You can buy blender gaskets on line, for like 5-7 dollars. The gasket on your blender is removable, right? Just get your model number and check it against what you find online.

  4. Also, I would check for washable wool blankets on eBay, facebook marketplace, and craigslist. A single bed is 75" x 30", so anything smaller than that will be a throw, not a blanket.

Here's a blanket for $25 + $23 S&H. The total price seems reasonable. You can check the wool percentage with the seller.

    2. That's too bad. How big does it need to be?

    3. Sue,
Blankets seem so small for the size bed, so I would want something king-sized for a queen bed.

    4. A queen bed is 80 x 60. That blanket is 88 x 64. Seems sufficient to me, but what do I know?

    5. Sue,
That gives me 4" hanging off the foot of the bed and 2" off each side. It cannot be tucked or moved one bit without my getting air underneath. Blankets I have had in the past were at least 10" off each side and at least that much on the foot.

    6. Ah. Different style of bedmaking. I am not a tucker! :^)

    7. Sue,
I want the bottom of the blanket tucked in since my feet get cold.

  7. I don't use a wool blanket but year round I sleep under a lightweight DOWN comforter. In winter I add a thin coverlet. In Summer I leave the coverlet folded at the foot of the bed. Years ago I would wrestle a comforter into a duvet cover. UGG it was difficult to do and it was impossible to peel back a layer if you became too hot.

    1. Janet,
I have thought I would like to sleep under down. I just settled on wool for some reason. The things I have heard about duvets makes me not want one. Thanks for confirming that.

    2. If you do decide to try down I suggest you go with a lightweight one. You can always add a little extra blanket but there is no way to take away feathers! Speaking of feathers ... go with DOWN, feathers are pokey.

My comforter is too big for my washer so a time or two a year I go to the local laundromat and use a HUGE washer. Drying the comforter takes FOREVER. The laundromat is so much less expensive than the dry cleaner. People think that down must be dry cleaned but that is silly. Birds and ducks in particular get wet all the time.

    3. Janet,
Since I am allergic to all things feathers/down, I will get one that is not allergenic. Yes, I had a feather pillow once, and it was pokey.
I knew they could be washed. But, did not know it took a large washer. I would not want the fumes from dry cleaning. That is silly. Do we need to keep the ducks out of the rain?...lol.

  8. Linda, I am sorry to learn you are allergic to down. I wonder if you would be allergic to a brand new down comforter. The outer fabric is woven so tightly that no down feathers ever come out.

I do not want a fiber fill one on my bed. I did sleep in the guest room twice recently while I had my room turned topsy turvy. I have a fiber fill one in there because I have a grandson who is allergic to everything! I also sleep under one at my daughter's. I was comfortable in both of those beds.
I got a new mattress. I bought one that was a bed in a box. So far so good.

    1. Janet,
I have read that some of the down comforters have tightly woven fabric making the whole comforter fine for people with allergies. I can use that.
I have seen those bed in a box mattresses. I got a wedge pillow packed tight. Directions were to allow it to rise. No, it never was anything squashed. It obviously does not work.
New fiberfill works for me. But, it seems the seams let air in the seams.
