Stock Up On Sales
Will children get to have Easter Egg Hunts? I worry some will not. So many parents depend on community events for their children.
I managed to get another good night of solid sleep. Well, I only got up to go to the bathroom five times and went right back to sleep each time. The trauma of this last week has been so stressful that I suppose I am catching up.
Today, right after I awoke and ate breakfast, I was walking very quickly back and forth to bedroom and back to kitchen. All of a sudden in the bedroom, I started seeing double. It was so scary that I called Tommy. It lasted about 15 minutes.
I would go to ER, but the fear of contracting Covid19 keeps me here.
At Publix, there were good stock-up sales. You know how Easter brings out good bargains. There were other bargains that I did not take advantage. Since I am no longer buying salad, I was not tempted, and we have plenty of fruit and vegetables.
Dole Pineapple 5 @ 4 for $5
Cream of Soups 10 for $10 I bought 8
no cream of celery
Wheat Thins Hint of Salt 2 for $5
handful of very expensive white grapes!
small vanilla pudding
two jalapeno peppers
Really, the Dole and Campbell's soups were only things I got for stock-up, but there was other stuff at good prices, but not anything I ever buy. The Wheat Thins are low salt variety, Hint of Salt, still frivolity. Then, I got a package of low-fat, sugar-free vanilla pudding for whatever it costs. Tommy hates banana pudding, so that is out. He likes pineapple, so I will put that in pudding for him. He prefers not to have vanilla wafers. The jalapenos are for my homemade bug spray that is non-toxic; I can make it in a blender.
At Publix, I saw many iterations of homemade masks. There was an elderly woman without a mask in a wheel chair being pushed by her equally elderly and frail-looking husband, also unmasked. I wanted to tell them to leave and I would shop for them. She was at the meat counter while her husband held things up or pointed and told her what it was. I suppose they came out to get Easter food. It was sad.
For Easter I will thaw the cooked ham, make green bean casserole, potato salad, vanilla pudding for him, and fruit salad (banana, apple, grapes, MW) for me. I might cook field peas and make Cole slaw. It depends on how I feel.
The forecast for storms looms over us. At least, all my clothes are clean if we lose electricity. Hopefully, we will not get tornadoes or the large hail predicted. Tommy's car and my garden are vulnerable. My car is in the carport, so I could receive limited damage or none.
Added to post--Saturday evening while it was still light, we went to one of the small, sort of crummy stores where people with less money go to shop in Bessemer. In the trunk was a box with a dozen or more cans of food, a three pound bag of brown rice, and a box of Publix bakery Easter cookies and a single banana muffin that was packed in a single little container. There were cans of corn, peas, tomato sauce, butterbeans, and things I cannot remember. Oh, I did put back into the box two cans of green beans because I thought people might like my favorite vegetable.
I told Tommy to go over to the woman putting up her cart in the corral. I rolled down the window and told her I had food in the trunk I was not going to use and would she take it. She said she would, so Tommy pulled over to the trunk of her car. As she got the box, I said I hoped it was stuff she would eat. She said, "I sho will!" So, stuff out of the trunk that we did not have to carry. And, she looked like she might just use it or have enough people around to use it.
Are you in the path of destructive storms? What are you having for Easter? Will your children get to have an Easter Egg Hunt?

I live in PA and we are only allowed out for working, pharmacy, and essential shopping and that is it. My kids are older but we will not be together for Easter. I am sure my girls will do them for their kids.
ReplyDeleteI am quite sure all but family egg hunts are canceled. It is too bad so many families cannot be together. Thanks for letting us know.
DeleteNo egg hunts here. We are under a stay at home order and rain is in forecast for tomorrow. This will be the first time that we haven't gone to church and them to my parents or the in-laws for Easter dinner. I will bake a small ham, have mac & cheese, along with green beans, deviled eggs and rolls. I also made a cake today. It will certaintly be different for us.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
Wendi,
DeleteThe rain is certainly a stopper! This will be much different for so many people, but at least more people will be alive to celebrate another year. Your dinner sounds great!
We are supposed to get high winds Sunday night through Monday. Am hoping we dont lose power. We are not doing an egg hunt nor going to my parents like normal. Instead I plan on making a nice dinner complete with lemon bundt cake and.chocolate pie for dessert. Just got the kids Easter baskets made up and now heading to bed for the night. I hope you and Tommy have a wonderful, safe and healthy Easter!
ReplyDeleteRachel,
DeleteLosing power is a fear of mine. Your Easter plans sound great, especially the food==chocolate pie. Thank you. I hope Easter is all that it can be for your family considering the limitations on movement we are all under.
Happy Easter to you and Tommy. We need rain desperately here but it keeps missing us. I sure hope we don't have to worry about fires here this year- we did several years ago and folks had to hose down their roofs; it was not fun. I'm having a zoom call with my kids this afternoon YAY. My grandkids are almost 18 boy, 15 1/2 boy, almost 6 girl and 19 months boy. I doubt if any stay on long except 6 year old GD LOL. I have to make the quiche and am then going to watch some Easter movies. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteNan,
DeleteWe had our whole year's inches of rain by the end of February or was it January? lol It has been soggy. That must have been scary having to worry about the fires. Have fun with the zoom call and thank goodness for little girls who like things like that. Happy Easter to you.
Happy Easter
ReplyDeleteR's Rue,
DeleteHappy Easter!
We are having a different sort of egg hunt in our community. You put an egg on your mailbox indicating you have hidden eggs then put big printed eggs in your windows, on the door, hidden in bushes, or under shrubs for the kids to "find" as they drive through the neighborhood. Kids take pictures of their found eggs and post them online
ReplyDeleteAnne,
DeleteThat is different! I am quite sure pent up kids will find that thrilling.
I saw double several months ago and it lasted 20 to 30 minutes. I told my eye dr on the next visit and it is related to migraines for me, Also if you see double just with one eye or both at the same time there is a difference. Cant remember which is the serious one. I cant remember if I saw it out of 1 or 2 eyes when I saw double, Also related to migraines I recently had sparkly flashes of colored lights that lasted abt 30 minutes or so. that happened just last month and it happened twice in one day but not since then. I googled 'flashes of light and migraine' and an exact picture of what I saw was there. Hope yours is only that too, Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteAnn,
DeleteWhen I saw flashes of light from one eye and flashed over my eye, I rushed to the eye hospital in the middle of the night as those are signs of retinal detachment. I don't have migraines. I am not sure what it is. Thanks for that information.
I hope you do not have to deal with the storms, just rain a little. Take care and Happy Ester!
ReplyDeleteKim,
DeleteOh, the sound is horrendous. I was taking a nap when the first happened. My little garden seemed to fare well. Happy Easter.
I would love a storm; I miss them so.
ReplyDeleteit is nothing but boring same day as always sunshine here.
There is no sign of Easter here other than some chocolate eggs. Nothing for dinner but leftovers.
Urspo,
DeleteBoring sunshine? Poor Urspo! LOL I will trade you. The chocolate bunny I gave Tommy is the only sign here. I am working on a meal for us.
After open heart surgery 11 years ago I was seeing double on and off in the hospital - I spent 6 weeks in the hospital from complications. They thought I was having a stroke but got an eye specialist in and he said it was migraines. Just silent migraines. I get them once in a while and the eye part is either double or it's prisms. I have the whole pantry area in my laundry room and kitchen torn apart and moving food around / checking dates and organizing. Where in the world did I get so many cans of tomatoes. lol. I eat a lot of them in foods and I have several people who get commodity boxes that give them to me so it must mostly be from that. I am happy to see that I know what I have better now. On to the freezer in a few days or next weekend. Not sure when yet. lol. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY EASTER!
Crystal,
DeleteMy eye doctor cautioned me about double vision as a sign of eye problems, an ongoing problem. I do not have migraines, so I am not sure what it was.
I wish I could get things organized around here where stored food is concerned. It is a mess, but I found the onions for the green bean casserole right at hand. Disorganization is my problem! I am going to have Tommy help me with the freezer since I cannot handle the avalanche by myself. Then, I will move on to canned goods. When I get boxes of food, I try to pass on what I will not use. I gave Tommy things he did not use, so there is lot to rid from the kitchen.
I think I will have to pass by Publix and stock up on the Dole Pineapple. Definitely going to do better with having a stocked pantry for the future.
ReplyDeleteLisa,
DeleteStocked up the best way to live from now on.
