An example that springs to mind is the police telling someone who is resisting arrest to relax. Odd that it wasn’t included in the article.

DeleteSomeone who is physically resisting arrest is told to relax in order to prevent the situation from escalating. It has nothing to do with "positivity" and everything to do with police trying to get a situation under control. If the person continues to resist, the police must use additional means to bring the situation under control. It is a totally different kind of thing than what is being discussed in the article.

My uncle who is a cop told me just last week that he tries to teach the ones under him to use the word WE not I or you. We need to stop a minute so no one gets hurt.

I think this toxic positivity is particularly prevalent in the "wellness" industry, as if everyone can "live their best life" if only their attitude is right.

DeleteYou are absolutely correct. I was once told I should adjust my priorities when I could not eat something I was allergic to. Of course, it had to be my attitude.
