Tommy's Birthday, New Furniture, This and That

Tommy's Birthday is coming up and I am confused. I want to get him a nose hair trimmer. Is it better to get a battery operated one or a manual? I looked to Amazon and I have no idea. Help! Pros and cons of both, please.

At Publix, I was given a cloth, reusable bag. It is the rectangular, flat kind, not one that stands up. But, it is washable, I think.

Monday, I found Halo's for the first time this year. They are not very good.

When the commode overflowed, I put four large, thick towels in the water when I got it stopped and then into the tub. Tommy later put his rug from in front of the sink onto the shower bar in the shower. Later he took it out and hung it on the ramp railing. I mentioned washing it. He said it needed to be thrown out. I thought it was a flat, brown rug. No, it has a squished down pile and is not brown, just filthy. . . this is why I never go without shoes.

He has two recliners, both given to him. The current one is rickety because of his struggles to get out and falling into it. The one he does not use is beige and in a corner. I keep telling him the one he sits in sound like it is going to fall down. Today, I asked him if he really thinks he needs to keep the beige one or get rid of it. He said he thinks it needs to go. Miracle of Miracles--I think I see new furniture in the future and more space where someone can vacuum. He said the beige chair is so uncomfortable and hard he cannot sit in it.

Does your lipstick ever run? I had a young friend whose lips looked like a 90-year-old woman's because of the bleeding lipstick. She was using lipstick gotten from estate sales, probably never worn, just old.  Old lipstick bleeds even on young lips. So, throw it out.

I playfully suggested to Tommy that we could take the Halo's and paint pumpkin faces on them. No, not doing it. But, a thought.

Today, Tuesday, we went to Cullman for lab tests. I was about to faint from hunger, but the phlebotomist was great and found a vein the first time, so the experience was not so bad.

We went out in the country to the Hunny Hut for Honey. I bought two pints for $8 each. I could have had a quart for $15, but who wants to handle a quart of honey? Not me. Each pint is 22 oz. honey, so that is almost 3 lbs of honey. This will last me a long time.

I went to my bank and had my absentee ballot notarized, Tommy's also. They know me so the notary public was willing to come outside. It was the bank manager. Then, I had to go and have a copy made of my driver's license at another business. I left a dollar bill on the counter in order to make the pain less...lol.  Now, to mail it.

Tommy likes to drive around and look at Halloween decorations, so we did a bit of that, too.

It's only 4 pm., but it has already been a hard and busy day.

Do you ever ride around to see Halloween decorations? Are you voting early or with absentee ballot?

  1. Not many people decorate for Halloween around here. I have a witch on my door that looks like.she crashed into it.
I voted early (last week) at our county board of elections. First time I have ever voted early and it was such an easy process.

  2. Not many Halloween decorations this year. My small town is having a drive through type of trick or treat at our local ballpark. It's difficult to try and have any fun this year!

    1. Michelle,
I have no idea how trick or treating is happening in this town. We can all live to celebrate many more Halloweens!

  3. I mailed my ballot the morning after it arrived. We have voted by mail for many years.

I helped John with his ear hair just this morning. He has a small battery operated nose trimmer that is wonderful in the ears and when trimming those crazy old guy bushy eyebrows. The nose trimmer is not expensive. It probably costs under $15

    1. Janet,
Tommy has two eyebrow hairs that are long and stick straight up and out. They make him crazy, but are not that noticeable...lol. Thanks.

  5. I live around a lot of Amish... they don't do Halloween and no one comes trick or treating in the country around here. I do have a couple fall decorations up but that's about it.

We voted early this year. First for us.

    1. chef,
I can see how your Halloween is different. I think voting early or by mail is a first for many people this year.

  6. We voted by mail, even though there is early, in-person voting going on now. Many people are taking advantage of that but the lines are not long. Most folks I know say they were in and out in 10 minutes or less.

    1. The voting I have seen is hours long, but I am glad it is short where you are.

  7. I recommend you get an electric trimmer that had multiple heads one of them a nose trimmer. The others can be used to trim necks and whiskers.
I like to walk the dog around the neighborhood to see the Halloween sights.

    1. Urspo,
Okay, I had one picked out, so now to shop again. Does Harper ever notice the lights and decorations?

  8. If you are getting Tommy a nose hair trimmer, I think you should also get him something else "fun" for his birthday. He might not want his only present be something for self improvement.

This is not the only thing. But, when I mentioned how he needed one, he became really excited. So, this would be fun...lol.

  9. If you have a food stamp card (EBT, Foodshare) you can get Amazon Prime for $6 a month. It is on the Amazon website.

I saw that, but it is impossible for me to get a picture of my card onto that site.

  10. I have not voted but will at the polls next Tuesday. I figure so many people are voting early that the poll lines should be relatively short. Plus my polling place is very near my house.

    1. Anne,
With all the long lines I see, the lines on Tuesday should be short. At home I could alk around the corner and across the street to vote.

  11. I'm afraid I cannot help with the nose trimmer question. I hope you get Tommy just the right one. It sounds like you are a good influence on Tommy and soon the old recliners will be history which will be good for the aesthetics and also Tommy's back. I don't have any issues with lipstick running. I seldom wear lipstick as I prefer lip gloss. Even so I don't have issues with runny lipstick. Maybe it's got something to do with the colour? I only wear shades of rose pink.

    1. Joyful,
Any shade will run if it is old. My friend wore light shades, too--all over her face. He yelled lots when I first mentioned the beige recliner. The one he sits in is horrendous, too. Everything will be better for both of us wiht these things gone.
