It took me fifteen minutes to find the icon for a new blog. Blogger, leave things alone!
Thursday night, I took a pork loin from the freezer and stuck it immediately into the crock pot. I took it out Friday afternoon after going to the dentist again. The pork loin took no effort and I had leftover cabbage from the day before for a huge portion for both of us. Tommy had the last third of the can of English peas. I had a Halo.
There is enough pork loin for Saturday night and two portions in the freezer. This makes me happy to have food cooked and ready to thaw, heat, and eat.
The dentist checked to see if food in the tooth was being covered over as I healed. I went to him because as soon as he pulled the tooth, well, the next day, I ceased to have the problems with balance and walking. But, as soon as the antibiotic ran out, the problems started again.
There has been no resolution as to why I now have trouble walking again.
Wednesday, I received in the mail a notice from my dental insurance company that I needed to make two payments in order to pay for dental coverage from Nov 1 to February 1, or something like that.
So, Friday cost nothing at the oral surgeon and I am getting the extraction paid for, also. It appears that my insistence they stop with the auto pay, they thought I wanted to pay over the phone or write a check. So, I do have dental insurance and it is paying off.
I needed a new car battery, so Tommy took me to get one and the guy next door took out the old battery, I took it in, and bought a new battery and the guy put it in. I hate batteries.
I took another bag of goodies to the woman who was the recipient of the Pink Purse charity. She was thrilled and wants us to talk because she is lonely and sits alone when not working. She shared with me that she is going to take her cousin's ashes and bury them with the woman's mother. She is just going to take a shovel and pour them in a hole on the grave. She said it is in the country and no one will care.
The pretty Publix bag was filled with canned food, a new, matching hat/scarf/gloves, two tie-dye washable masks, and other stuff. We took it to the place where she works in fast food. When we left, she practically ran in to show what she had received.
In the sixties, women wore Christmas corsages on their coats. I had one, and I still have one of the pink balls that was on it. This pink ball with pink glitter is always on my Christmas tree.
Do you remember Christmas corsages? Did you have one? Did your mother or grandmother have a Christmas corsage?
I vaguely remember Christmas corsages. My mother was a very feminine woman and always dressed in heels, skirts, make up and jewellery. The coats have pins or corsages. I actually miss the days when women dressed like this though I do enjoy my freedom to dress as I like and I'm afraid I did not take after my mom.
ReplyDeleteI'm so very sorry to hear you are having problems again with balance. I'm wondering if it might be another infection elsewhere in the body or even your ears. I do hope it gets resolved soon and I'm glad that you have dental insurance because I thought I remembered you wanted to cancel it or did cancel it.
Joyful,
DeleteYes, and a hat was proper, too, especially for church. I remember all this so well, like it was yesterday. I was sad when no one wore them.
This is what I think, a problem in ear or elsewhere. At least, I am on an antibiotic for holidays so I don't end up in an emergency room.
Joyful,
DeleteI was shocked and pleased the policy was still in effect! That is saving me lots of money. I said I cancelled it and had this tooth problem a week later.
Yes, I always bought my granny a Christmas corsage. From about the age of 9, I could take the bus downtown and go shopping- even alone. Since I had a November birthday, I would use my Christmas cash for gifts at Woolworth's or Kresge's- I'm talking about a few bucks LOL. I bought my gramps a pen and pencil set every year too- what was I thinking LOL? He was retired and mainly sat watching TV or looking out the window. Thanks for the memories! I wish you and Tommy a good Christmas.
ReplyDeleteNan,
DeleteThings were so cheap back then! That is a sweet memory of your grandparents. I am surprised to hear you rode a bus at 9, but I know it must have been safe. I wonder if he ever used your pen and pencil set. You remembered him a certain way even after he moved on from work. I am glad it is a good memory for you. Merry Christmas to you.
I"Ve never heard of a Christmas corsage, so will look up that tradition. I like earning new things about the past. Human connection is probably of more importance than the nice things in the bag when someone is lonely. It sounds like that has real meaning for your new friend.
ReplyDeleteSAM,
ReplyDeleteI know Christmas corsages were popular in the 1960s. Before or after, I don't remember. I realized that she was very lonely when she asked me if I would keep in touch. I am going to call her this afternoon. I was sad for her loneliness. She seems to have a great support group at work, but that is not enough. Human connections do have real meaning for her.
have your eyes checked also. Friend up in Huntsville AL found she had eye issues after they run tons of tests because of her balance.
ReplyDeleteChef,
DeleteI am going to do that in the New Year. I know I need new glasses.
I have never heard of Christmas corsages; maybe this is a Southern thing?
ReplyDeleteUrspo,
DeleteI don't think it is Southern. But, you may be too young to remember.
When I was a child in the 1950s there was a Christmas pin that I coveted but, of course, never owned. It was like a tiny colorful bust or face of Santa, I guess made out of plastic, and it had a small string hanging from it. When you pulled the string, Santa's red nose lit up.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I thought that was neat. Does anyone else remember these?
Anne,
DeleteThose are still made!
I told Tommy, and he said he remember that and a Rudolph pin and a snowman pin who had noses that lit up.
DeleteAnne,
DeleteI do remember those. But, from a leter era than 50s.
I recently had cataract surgery. My distance vision is amazing! I have never seen this clearly but in gaining distance vision I forfeited my close vision. I am currently using "cheater" over the counter glasses. I swear, when I stand up while wearing them I feel like I am getting off a boat! Soon I will be able to get new glasses. The cheaters work well for the computer, the phone and for reading but the area where I need to use a knife to prep dinner is a danger zone!
ReplyDeleteYes you should have your eyes checked. a vision issue can certainly make you feel as if you are unbalanced. Heck it will make you unbalanced! We have to be careful. I have broken my spine in 2 places from minor falls.
Janet,
DeleteI started to use a knife without glasses on and decided that since I could barely see, I should go get my glasses. Remember, I sliced open my finger and was using glasses! I am going to get vision checked next year. I am glad your cataract surgery was successful in improving your vision.
