When I was about 45 years old when I started having the worst pain in my elbow and arm. Even though I didn't play tennis, it felt like I imagined tennis elbow would feel, that was the only thing I thought it may be. Those were pre google days for me. It hurt terrible like that for at least three weeks and then the rash finally came out going up from my thumb along a line up my arm to just above the bend of my arm and around my elbow. My whole arm ached even more then. It sure was an ugly rash and it hurt like hell. It was summer time and St.Louis hot and humid. Our kids had roles in the St Louis Muny Opera in the show The King and I. We took them to rehearsals which were outdoors and we waited with them outdoors in the heat. The arm felt like it took on a life of its own with pain. The rehearsals went on two weeks and the rash was at it's ugliest. I wore long sleeve shirts to cover the leper looking arm. Finally when the show was on stage for a full week, my arm started looking a bit better, but the pins and needles feeling all up and down my arm was almost unbearable. I don't think being in the heat helped the shingle rash at all. I kept cool damp cloths on it a lot of the time.
I have not had either of the vaccines for it yet. In the case of shingles vaccine, I do not understand how a vaccine works to give one immunity, but an actual case of the shingles does not give immunity. My best friend had the double shot of the shingles vaccine and she didn't feel very well after it. I may still be immunized for shingles, but I have a lot of other medical stuff on my plate this year with my eye problem and upcoming surgery for it.
susie, For me the shingles vaccine was a simple visit to drugstore, not anything to deal with that takes time. Good luck on getting it and never getting shingles again.
I had the old shingles vaccine and both doses of the new vaccine. Those who have had shingles have told me how they wished they had been vaccinated. John has had his first of the injections. I need to check with the pharmacy and verify that he hasn't had the second shot. This has been such a strange year & my memory is a little spotty in places.
Janet, I think I got the old and two new ones. I will have to see about that. Oh, I cannot remember what day it is most days since Christmas. I have to refer to my day planner to see what I have done and when!
