On the History Channel we watch documentaries such as "The Food that Built America." This is fascinating. Last year, it was about people like Heinz and Nestle. This year, it about the 20th century and Reese, Hershey, and others. I suppose the last episodes we watched were all about chocolate. At any rate, the viewing is superior to murder shows.
If we are going to be forced to veg out, these documentaries are a better choice than most television, not that I don't enjoy a good Young Sheldon. Have you seen these food history documentaries?
After I ordered two assistive devices, I was informed the package had been put in the mailbox. No, it was not there. Since we waited until the next morning after the 7 pm delivery, we are not sure whether the deliverer lied, if it was put in the wrong mailbox, or was stolen. At any rate, another was sent out.
On Tuesday, we finally received a package that was "delivered" on Monday. I suspected it was the original. Then, on Wednesday, I received the order again. Today, when I called to return the duplicate order, the woman immediately said, "YOU HAVE RESTORED MY FAITH IN HUMANITY!" Since I was puzzled, she had to explain it to me...lol.
I could not keep that order and sleep at night. What kind of people would keep a duplicate order? She told me to use it or donate it. Well, we can use the duplicate.
Earlier today, I tried to make an appointment for an eye exam but the woman took my number and said I would get a call from the scheduling department and no I could not talk to them now. Is this the way appointments are made now?
Unfortunately, it appears I may have to cook tonight. bummer Maybe if I search the refrigerator, I can find something to eat without cooking! Do you ever not want to cook and must? If I were not feeding Tommy, I would scramble an egg and have some green beans later and eat applesauce. I am afraid he now expects food!
Have you seen these food documentaries?
I enjoy Young Sheldon, too, as well as my dh. You just reminded me it's on tonight, haha. I almost always do not want to cook and must. Tonight I'm making hamburgers and fries, which has been a favorite of ours lately and fairly easy.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite shows is Young Sheldon. Hamburgers and fries are always good. But, once in a while, I cannot bear to cook and complain. Before I came, he was in the habit of eating out lots. Besides, he said he just wanted to get out of the house.
DeleteOne of my kids loves science documentaries, and the other will watch nothing but crime/murder shows. So, it's a pretty mixed bag here.
ReplyDeleteI reached a breaking point with meal planning, prep & cooking, so I've called February the month where I don't cook. It's not entirely true, but we're using meal services (promotional offers) & my teen will cook with those kits. I've cooked once I think? It's glorious & lazy & I'm hoping to be refreshed after this.
HP,
DeleteI like a good crime show but they get old fast. I noticed he cooks a lot, and that is interesting. Just having to go into the kitchen is getting to me, especially after no light. Surely you will be refreshed. But, you might have to fight your son for the kitchen...lol.
I like to cook meals large enough that we can have leftovers. Sometimes I do the large crock pot and freeze meals. I sure don't like the cooking and cleanup all the time either
ReplyDeleteAnn,
DeletePlannedovers are the only way to go! I have not used my crockpot in a couple of weeks. I should. If I had a maid, I would love cooking several meals a day...lol.
I get tired of cooking every night, every woman's dilemma from the beginning of time. I was only charged for one pack of soda when I bought three, and I went back and told the cashier I was under charged. She was shocked. I told her I often caught the store in mistakes that did not favor me and I made sure I got what I deserved, so I was not going to cheat them of what they deserved.
ReplyDeleteKim,
DeleteI went back to a store to get what they owed me. When, I got home, they had not charged me for the item, just refunded the excess. I was not going back. It may be that if they overcharge, the item is free. They short me every time and often I don't catch it until later, and then I lose the receipt or forget. So, I figured it all worked out that time. Like you, I get what they owe me, and prefer they get their money, too.
Since I get up so early, the mornings are my prep time. I cut up fresh carrots, corn off frozen cobs and fresh green beans I had frozen from my farm share and am making a big pot of vegetable beef soup. I had about a quarter of a beef roast I had purchased and again frozen and added onions and tomatoes to the pot. I'm done for the day! I have been cooking all my life but I like good food so I cook from scratch and freeze a lot. I haven't had any take out since my sister and I drove to Atlanta to see my daughter and family last October. I also cleaned 2 batches of fresh spinach I got yesterday in the farm share- it really looks good. I like to wilt spinach with vinegar and a bit of sugar or sweetener. Still no milk but I'm OK. I don't drink it any more and can do without in my cup of coffee.
ReplyDeleteNan,
DeleteYou cook smart. That pot of soup sounds delicious and oh, so healthy. If it weren't for my back pain and energy level, I would cook more like you. Keep it up. I was considering cooking a pot of soup in the crock pot, but sort of changed my mind...lol.
I have found I need to give UPS and/or USPS a day after I get the Amazon package notice of delivery. Sometimes I think the notice is issued after it is on a truck for delivery but not necessarily delivered to my address.
ReplyDeleteAnne,
DeleteThey always come right on time, except for this time. Well, when they are delayed, I get an email. One time, the package came early! I think the delivery was posted before the package was put in the mailbox this time. Thanks.
Before COVID, my husband cooked supper and had it ready for me when I got home from work. Now that I'm working from home, I do most of the cooking. We have one main meal a day, usually around 4:30PM. I never eat past 6PM, sometimes he eats just a bit. Neither of us are ever hungry for breakfast, so our first meal is usually around 11 or 12. Mostly leftovers from the previous night's meal.
ReplyDeleteIf he cooks, I do the dishes, and if I cook, he does the dishes. They're almost always done as soon as we're finished eating, at the very latest, before we go to bed. Most times, he puts them away before bed as well.
I love those documentaries.
Alice,
DeleteYou have a very good working arrangement with your husband. Good for you. And, it seems you eat in a healthy manner. Ah! Dishes! The bane of my hobbling existence! It sounds like you wash as you go or don't use every pot and pan in the kitchen.
I told my husband today that I am so sick of planning meals. I think I'm going to try and schedule out a week at a time because each day I feel oppressed when the afternoon comes. :D We need to hit the grocery store tomorrow, but before we go we'll have discussed what we are going to eat for the next two weeks and made a list of what exactly we will need to buy. I really love this guy but he only eats about six different meals and I'm ready to tear my hair out.
ReplyDeleteAnne,
DeleteThe planning is the worst part. I would just like to know what to cook! I understand the oppression. lol That is bad when he is limited in what he will eat. Let me know how it goes.
Wednesday, last night and today do not feel like cooking so was frozen chili on Wednesday, last night was a frozen pizza, and tonight is just boxed au gratin potatoes, and frozen to bake chicken cordon bleu's, even though we had homemade/fresh version on Sunday. I'll cook this weekend though. Work is too puzzling and stressful right now.
ReplyDeleteSAM,
DeleteHaving frozen foods helps. Tonight, I am heating up frozen meatballs, putting spaghetti sauce and mozarella over them and top with mozarella and have a salad of romaine and tomatoes. That should be good and hold us. I have no work to stress me, just Tommy hitting a car today.
I always do some kind of freezer cooking. I love to cook, but don't like to cook every day and I definitely don't like fixing breakfast every day. Next week we're eating out of the freezer all week. All I have to do, is add veggies to each meal. That works for me.
ReplyDeleteMs Goose,
DeleteFreezer cooking is the way to go! No, I don't, won't cook breakfast every day. Freezing the protein part of the meal and adding vegetables is the way I like to go. I even have frozen vegetables stored, too, some bought and some frozen by me.
